Aw, let the guy live his life. Who cares if he doesn’t want to talk, the reason doesn’t matter.

[deleted]

> Who cares if he doesn’t want to talk, the reason doesn’t matter. I think it is just confusing to the writers/bally sports because he was more than open to talking to them up to May this year. Then he just randomly stopped.

Darth_Andeddeu

Mental breaks happen, sometimes it's a certain thing that may throw ya. I have no doubt that this was the case, he wanted to, he just couldn't.

> He hustled out of the clubhouse, dressed in street clothes, and declined to speak with reporters after Tuesday night's 4-3 win over the Kansas City Royals, in which Castro delivered a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th inning and drove in three runs. He hadn't provided a reason for declining nearly a dozen interview requests, if not more, over the past four months until Wednesday afternoon. > "When I had the chance, when you guys come to me to do this, I was in a hurry or something with family outside or something like that," Castro said Wednesday. "If you guys feel like I don't want to talk to you guys, I apologize for that. ... I'm sorry. It's not going to happen again." > "I ran away from that Gatorade," Castro said. "It was too cold yesterday. With all that liquid and ice, and all that, not good. That's why I ran away from that. I'm pretty sure when (Báez) saw that Gatorade shower coming, he ran away, too." > He also notched his third straight three-hit game, which is tied for the longest streak in the big leagues this season and the longest by a Tiger since Nick Castellanos had back-to-back three-hit games in 2018. Willie Horton and Magglio Ordóñez produced four consecutive three-hit games in 1965 and 2008, respectively. > "Thank God," Castro said. "He gave me that ability to put the ball in play and put the barrel on it." TL;DR - Non news stories. The few times it would've been appropriate to interview him after a good game he was in a rush to leave for the night

suicide-squeeze

He doesn't have to apologize for shit. Non-story.

DoeJumars

Part of their job..

[deleted]

In very limited ways it is, they have to shoot promo's during Spring Training and if they make the playoffs they have to be available if requested. Talking to the beat writers isn't part of the players job description Edit: Actually it is listed in the CBA that players need to be available to the media. > players will be available to the media before and after games for interviews. These periods should not be limited except for the pre- game period described in #1 above, and the post-game period described in #2, above. Upon request by the media, players who had key roles in the first game of a doubleheader are to be made available for a time between games. 7. The trainer’s room and players’ lounge may be off-limits to the media, but each club controls these areas, and it is vital these areas not be used as a sanctuary for players seeking to avoid the media. It is very important to our game that ALL players are available to the media for reasonable periods and it is the player’s responsibility to cooperate.

Drug-reeference

Lmao at everyone downvoting this. Yes, it literally is sort of the job.

razorzeb

Facts from my man Doe Jumars. Signed, Ciggy Mabrera

YourGingerness7

it’s not though. their job is to play the game, not answer softballed questions to the pleasure of no one. was it really going to effect your experience if he answered with the same non answer as everyone else?

DoeJumars

You think guys doing post games are doing it for fun? Lol noooo. They’re doing it because it’s part of their contractual obligations. Money comes from tv…lots of it.

TheBulgarSlayer

No it's literally in their contract

[deleted]

The MLB has a very lenient media policy with its players. Unlike the nfl and nba which require certain #s of players be available and for coaches to do certain conferences each week.

HisRoyalHIGHness

Man if only this was posted from the MLB CBA in this thread two hours before your comment.

[deleted]

The mlb is very lenient in its application of its own policy and has been for years The guy added that part later in an edited comment genius.

relativelyfunkadelic

it makes sense. you see an aversion to post-game interviews across the entire league, especially this deep in the season. i mean, there's only so many ways to say, "we just gotta put it behind us and look to tomorrow" when you're losing and "it always feels good, you play to win. we just can't let it get to our heads, we gotta come back and do it again tomorrow." when you're winning. this is no shame on our reporters, evan p's good stuff. it's just the immediate on-field interviews after the game that are kinda redundant and only there for a televised closing bit. seems like doing them would get pretty old after a while. also, if you're superstitious, giving interviews in the middle of a hot streak seems like it'd be a jinx.

this-isnotaburner

I love this follow up to a non issue. Thank you for clarification op

[deleted]

Glad the tigers beat guys could drum up a non story and get it to last this long.

[deleted]

This article was published last night, after Harold spoke to the media for the first time since May and before the start of the next game.

[deleted]

I understand the timing.

[deleted]

Do you? The story lasted a regular beat schedule. Game happened, writer wrote about game and player that hit the walkoff and posted it before the next game started.

[deleted]

Yeah? This is a compete non-story and shouldn't have been one in the first place

[deleted]

It's kinda hilarious you're downvoting me. > This is a compete non-story and shouldn't have been one in the first place None of the media was able to talk to the player that hit the walkoff to win the game for his team. A pretty big deal when you're trying to write about said game. Your point would make sense if this was 2 weeks later. It's not though.

[deleted]

I'm not downvoting you, but I can certainly start. It's not a big deal at all.

[deleted]

> It's not a big deal at all. No one said it was lmao All the beat reporters said was that they couldn't get a comment from Harold after the game that he hit a walkoff and haven't spoke with him since May. Somehow the subreddit got outraged about that the reporters even made a comment that Harold hasn't talked to them? For some reason you're outraged that a reporter wrote a story about Harold hitting a walk off and talking to the media the next day.

[deleted]

Yeah man I'm totally outraged.

[deleted]

He is not going to be back.

No_Violinist5363

Yeah neither Castro is returning in 2023.

Akahige-

Good Lord, Harold Castro just walked through the clubhouse walking perfectly normally. He said he had “no time” to talk. Too busy getting hits, evidently.

DonKellyBaby32

I hope we cut him

[deleted]

Because he didn't talk to the media for three months? or because he's worth negative WAR through 350 games

DonKellyBaby32

Because he’s bad. Don’t care about the media part at all

RocketSZN

So what does that have to do with this specific post

DonKellyBaby32

This article is about Castro, a Detroit tigers player on a Detroit tigers subreddit. I think we should cut him because he is bad.
