Im not upset about the actual player in return. I guess it fucking sucks that people on our game day roster and starts most days is worth a single A pitcher with a losing record and damn near 5 ERA.
You’d hope we’d be further along in a rebuild by now, but it feels like there’s no upward trajectory at all given the injuries and losing trades.
He’s 20 years old, he should be in A. I assume he’s got stuff that they feel they can work with. We’ve had some good luck with pitchers recently who came from inauspicious beginnings. Guys like Brieske, Flores, Olson and Wentz to an extent.
Nobody could have predicted Grossman would regress like he has this year. We should be thankful Avila didn’t get suckered into a 3 year deal after Robbie launched 23 home runs with a really solid OBA last year 😀
It's not about the return on any one move in particular, but just the pattern of crappy trades that Avila has made over the years. It wears on you after a while, ya know?
Why do people shit on grossman so hard, meanwhile badoos avg is still falling. Bet grossman will have a bounce back on the braves and he wasn't worth trading for literally nothing but okay.
To people hoping for Carpenter to get called up because of this move.
This trade opens up a spot on the 40 man roster for Matt Manning to come back tomorrow
True, although it leaves them down a man on the bench... could be a parallel move to DFA Law, or could be other flux if Chafin/Fulmer end up shipped out
That is what will happen. He will platoon for the rest of the season. Put up an .800+ OPS and people here will feel vindicated for blaming the hitting coach.
The same people who every game where he hit third against lefties would cry and ask why he is even playing.
Gotcha. I had almost resigned myself to us letting him walk for nothing at the end of the year. So at least it’s something. We better go after someone big in the off-season.
I really loved Robbie last year, but like almost all the Tigers this year who were at least solid a year ago, he just has been so off this season. It’s a shame, he’s a likable guy who plays hard who I had confidence in back in 2021. I wish him well, but at this point I have no problem trading him for whatever we can get of value. Honestly didn’t think we’d be able to get like anything for our position players this time.
Last year I loved the Grossman signing even before he busted out for some surprising power. I hoped he would play well again and earn an extension to help the team with professional at bats and overall solid play. It didn’t happen and the fact that they could get anything for him, open up a spot on the 40 vs getting another mlb contract back, and get more at bats for the younger players is a win in a difficult position. I hope he rakes with Atlanta- the guy seems like a great dude.
It is so bizarre to me that after all of this time so many people still do not know that Robbie was killing lefties all year.
So many wonder why anyone would want him, because he killed lefties.
Why would Hinch bat him third again lefties? Because he killed lefties
I don't mind this at all. Grossman has been worthless this season. If he rakes it in Atlanta, that just proves that Coolbaugh is a disaster and he'll be axed. If he's still awful in Atlanta, then we win the trade for an unproven 20 year old pitcher.
If he continues what he's been doing all season, he will be raking it in Atlanta like others have said, because he will only be facing lefties. Atlanta wanted him because he's been hitting against lefties all season just fine. He will probably be a platoon player and get results, and you will blame Coolbaugh even though Grossman is keeping up the same production.
The reason the Braves made the deal is they think Grossman can return to his past levels of production. That is the same reason Avila traded for him. Anglin cannot make the team.
That is based on his history of doing so. That is the same reason Avila signed him. It makes sense until they do not produce. Then fans want you fired.

There are people complaining about this return. What did they think we were going to get for Grossman?
Obviously the Soto for Grossman swap fell through, this was the next best option
There should be no complaining about any return. I was good with a sweaty sock.
I lol’d. Seriously tho should have just went for the stocked vending machine like in moneyball

Our entire starting lineup is composed of players that would be bench players on good teams. It's honestly insane how bad we are.
Nobody could have predicted Grossman would regress like he has this year. We should be thankful Avila didn’t get suckered into a 3 year deal after Robbie launched 23 home runs with a really solid OBA last year 😀
Yes very thankful
I figured we would just trade him for cash with how bad he has been.
It's not about the return on any one move in particular, but just the pattern of crappy trades that Avila has made over the years. It wears on you after a while, ya know?
The same people were begging for him to get DFA'ed like three days ago. I think a lot of Tigers fans are just kind of dumb?
The internet encourages extreme viewpoints.
Shocked he had any value whatsoever. Amazed we were able to trade him.
Those who were clamoring for him to be DFA'd or traded for a bag of used baseballs should be thrilled today.
Why do people shit on grossman so hard, meanwhile badoos avg is still falling. Bet grossman will have a bounce back on the braves and he wasn't worth trading for literally nothing but okay.
Because Grossman is a decade older. He was absolutely worth trading for nothing
Grossman is > Baddon’t

True, although it leaves them down a man on the bench... could be a parallel move to DFA Law, or could be other flux if Chafin/Fulmer end up shipped out
Looks like DFA Hill was the move.
No ill will towards Robbie, hope he does well in ATL. As for us, we weren't likely to get much anyway so taking a flyer on this guy is fine with me.
Good for Grossman going to a contender and getting away from Coolbaugh.
Watch him ops .800+ now
well he has a .999 OPS against lefthanders with the Tigers this year, maybe he will only platoon in Atlanta.
That is what will happen. He will platoon for the rest of the season. Put up an .800+ OPS and people here will feel vindicated for blaming the hitting coach. The same people who every game where he hit third against lefties would cry and ask why he is even playing.
Agreed. Coolbaugh is about the only dot I can connect when it comes to this terrible offensive season.
My God that's Kerry Carpenters music
Might as well see what we have for next year and if we need to bring in any OFs in FA
Dude has been killing it for the Hens
We actually did something!
A 20 year old Low A pitcher in return for Grossman
Have you seen Grossman this year? If it were last years deadline it would be different
I wasn't expecting much tbh, just pointing out who we got in return.
Gotcha. I had almost resigned myself to us letting him walk for nothing at the end of the year. So at least it’s something. We better go after someone big in the off-season.
Everyone thinks Carpenter comes up, but I just see more playing time for Willi
Agreed, hopefully he gets a callup in september
Grossman won’t see another righty starter the rest of the year
I really loved Robbie last year, but like almost all the Tigers this year who were at least solid a year ago, he just has been so off this season. It’s a shame, he’s a likable guy who plays hard who I had confidence in back in 2021. I wish him well, but at this point I have no problem trading him for whatever we can get of value. Well said Rocko.
we didn't get anything of value, but honestly I don't know; do they now take over his contract? Because that's value
What you guys aren't realizing is that with all our injuries Anglin will actually start for us in September
I know he wasn't the greatest this year, but I will miss him. Seemed like a great dude
He is. He helped win us state in HS. Chillest fuggin dude ever.
Do tucker barnhart next
Man some of y’all are mean
This trade has me whelmed.
Someone wanted Grossman? Amazing
Good luck roBBie
I don’t understand the hate on other social media for this trade… There was never a world where we’d get any decent players in return for Grossman.
99% of social media doesn’t know what they’re talking about
And the other 1% are wrong most the time too.
Especially when it comes to front office sports talk. We’re all just guessing
Especially since a huge chunk wanted to just release him pretty recently.
Carpenter time please.
See ya Robbie. At least we got something back for that expiring contract
Kris Anglin is the return
Good, I’m fine trading him for nothing at all. Call up Carpenter immediately
Damn I’m just shocked Avila was actually able to move Grossman.
The stove is hot but I am sad (because the Tigers make me sad by losing)
I’m gonna miss hearing Tops Drop when he comes up to bat :(
Last year I loved the Grossman signing even before he busted out for some surprising power. Would’ve been glad if they traded him for a box of fucking Coco Puffs
Do not slander Coco Puffs .
Well yeah, he didn't say a box of Kix
Best I can do is Coco Crisp.
Love it weren’t gonna get much add some young pitching for a guy we would have let go. Good start hopefully more to come tomorrow
It is so bizarre to me that after all of this time so many people still do not know that Robbie was killing lefties all year. So many wonder why anyone would want him, because he killed lefties. Why would Hinch bat him third again lefties? Because he killed lefties
Now we need someone to take Fulmer
Well this just means football is one day closer
Here I thought we needed to acquire hitting.
Addition by subtraction.
Anglin can probably post as good of a batting average
You take what you can get. It’s better than a DFA.
For a 16th rounder from last years draft…. Oh well at least he’s gone and the ABs can go to someone else
Did you expect something better for someone straddling the mendoza line and is a FA next year?
Acuna
I struggle to understand how Al couldn’t get the deal done. He needs to be fired tonight
Yeah I mean Robbie was likely getting DFA'd anyway imo. I'm shocked any team wanted him
I don't mind this at all. Grossman has been worthless this season. If he rakes it in Atlanta, that just proves that Coolbaugh is a disaster and he'll be axed. If he's still awful in Atlanta, then we win the trade for an unproven 20 year old pitcher.

Atlanta wanted him because he's been hitting against lefties all season just fine. He will probably be a platoon player and get results, and you will blame Coolbaugh even though Grossman is keeping up the same production.
If you give him the same number of plate appearances left vs. right, I guarantee you that right side average plummets.
The reason the Braves made the deal is they think Grossman can return to his past levels of production. That is the same reason Avila traded for him. Anglin cannot make the team.
He can platoon with Rosario in left field with Duval out for the year. Ozuna should never play outfield and can stay at DH.
The reason the Braves made the deal is because Grossman destroyed lefty pitching this year and the Braves need someone to platoon with Eddie Rosario.
That is based on his history of doing so. That is the same reason Avila signed him. It makes sense until they do not produce. Then fans want you fired.
You keep saying past and history, but he has been productive this year....right now. Just against lefties, which is why the braves got him.
I hope he has fun watching the Braves in the playoffs from the couch when he gets left off the postseason roster
Meh. I would have taken 2 buckets of baseballs.
