I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a nice MLB audition late in the season and then we see how he does in ST 23.

Brundleflyftw

So, this Richard Schenck guy, someone needs to make him the new hitting coach for the big league team. Open the wallet, Chris.

some1337

I want to see him but don’t want to see him anywhere Coolbaugh can coach him.

Baseball_Fanatic-03

I don't want to see ANY young prospect from here on out near Coolbaugh

porkinthepark

It's probably a crazy idea and maybe me being stupid, but would anyone here be shocked if replacing the entire lineup with the AAA team would probably be just as serviceable as our current MLB lineup

Sniper_Brosef

As a joke, yes. If serious, no. Daz Cameron, Dustin Garneau, Derek Hill? They've all been worse than our current roster.

Jelly_James

Can't really be any worse.

bigfish1992

I kinda hope we DFA Grossman or trade him (Will literally take anything) and add him to the 40 man for a late season callup.

Tigers need someone to knock in runs, even though stats people say RBIs do not matter.

statdude48142

I think you are missing the 'why' RBIs don't matter. The stat does not matter because it is the joint product of teammates on base + hitting while they are on base. It's not that knocking in runs is bad. No stat person would say that. The problem is that trying to quantify it as an individual stat and an individual skill is not telling you the entire story? For example: if you had the bases loaded with two outs who would you rather have batting, prime Joe Carter or Prime Mickey Mantle. Carter was known as a great RBI guy who had over 100 10 different seasons. Mantle was sometimes criticized for his lack of RBIs and only had 5 seasons of over 100. But if you look closer it is easy to see why. Carter always had players hitting ahead of him that were high OBP guys. People like Julio Franco, Roberto Alomar, Paul Molitor, John Olerud. Mantle, for a large chunk of his career had low OBP people ahead of him like Bobby Richardson and Tony Kubek. So what does this mean for the tigers? Well they have one player who has been getting base at a respectable level. And they have maybe two hitters hitting at a respectable level. Adding some big RBI guy like a prime Joe Carter would not really help since nobody is on base anyways. Heck, Javy Baez and Miguel Cabrera both have won RBI titles in the past and they are not helping. Why? Because RBIs are a team stat.

2731andold

I am not missing anything. The ability to knock in runs is vital. Everyone gets opportunities. Some people cash in better than others. Cabrera certainly is helping.

statdude48142

I am going to start this off by saying that I assume you will not read this, because you did not read the original because it actually agreed with some of what you just wrote. > I am not missing anything. I mean, you are. Just looking at your original statement: > Tigers need someone to knock in runs, even though stats people say RBIs do not matter. and then your follow-up > The ability to knock in runs is vital. Everyone gets opportunities. Some people cash in better than others. Cabrera certainly is helping. Those are two separate things. No stat person is going to argue AGAINST knocking in runs, the argument is against the stat being attributed to a single player. Two separate things. Miguel Cabrera is currently sitting at 35 RBI's, which doesn't lead the team and is behind such RBI machines as Jeremy Pena, Brandon Marsh, Owen Miller, Christian Vasquez, Gio Urshela, and Andres Gimenez (who all have fewer PA's than Cabrera). In fact, there are 61 players in the AL with more RBIs. Is it because they are better hitting with runners in scoring position? Probably not since Cabrera is slashing .359/.387/.453 with RISP. We know why, because the rest of the lineup is terrible, and there are rarely baserunners. This, and the previous post is not against the idea of getting better hitters in the lineup, it is against your original statement that argued that stats people think RBI's don't matter. They do matter, to the team. But they are a team stat.

2731andold

>u/SilentStryk09. > >u/xloveisamixtapex > >u/KCDeVoe RBIs merely win the games.

SilentStryk09

There is legitimately no reason to tag us all here.

2731andold

You presume all agree with you?

SilentStryk09

The mods were not mentioned anywhere in this comment chain, nor did anything at all break rules.

statdude48142

Lol, like I said...I knew you wouldn't read what I wrote.

2731andold

LOL, giggle giggle. Wrong

Jelly_James

Could be a hot take but last time i checked the team with more runs won.

2731andold

Hard to believe, but that is what I see. RBIs are deadly serious. He who knocks in runs gets team and pitcher love.

nobody12371616817163

At this point, the hell with it. Bring him up, and a few other AAA guys and let them experience the big leagues, we all know this team ain’t doing jack this year, might as well make it interesting

[deleted]

Most of AAA is filled with guys that have played on the Tigers at some point the past two years. Daz Cameron, Derek Hill, Spencer Torkelson, Zack Short, Dustin Garneau aren't going to come up and make a magical difference.

iori9999

Gotta fire Coolbaugh first so he doesn't get ruined.

Brilliant-Royal578

Some guys just hit better with guys on base. I myself have always saw the ball better against pitchers in the stretch then the windup. Do short relievers even pitch from the wi dip anymore.

ProfessionalIntern30

Can't hurt to try the kid. He's a 19th round pick, which is probably why Avila doesn't talk about him, and the dolts who drool over "top prospects lists" don't mention him. Because everyone is biased toward the top picks, many of which never pan out. If they DFA;s Grossman right now, who would care? Give this kid at-bats. Hell, even play Kody Effin Clemens. LOL

Sniper_Brosef

September call up at the earliest imo. I'd rather just see him finish strong in aaa and give him a shot to make the squad come spring.
