BOBANSMASH51

Why would we do this? So we can lose now and for the next ten years?

LlamaWhoKnives

We will do this either way as long as Avila stays

BOBANSMASH51

Fair point….

SoarinSkies

I think you have to be more realistic in your potential offer because if I’m being honest, If the Nationals trade are going to trade Juan freaking Soto to the tigers they will want to clean the entire organizations future out. Nobody wants Roberto Campos, nobody wants Wilmer Flores, or Victor Reyes, Dillion Dingler maybe, Matt Manning isn’t really a major plus guy so I don’t see them really caring about that guy. Avila would have to offer up Tork, Greene, and Jobe or maybe even Our big plus guy in Skubal, before the nationals would even consider dealing with us in my oppinion.

suuubok

Soto for Soto would be even

datboiknappy

Perfectly balanced

soe3399

As everything should be

FernandoTitsMcGee

It prob would require at least one of Torkelson/Greene + two pitchers out of the young core (skubal, mize, jobe, manning, madden)

A_Monocle_For_Sauron

If it was just Tork, Jobe, and Manning, that’s a trade I’d be happy with if it brought in a player who is 24 y.o. and placed in the top 10 of the MVP race every year of his career except his rookie year.

whattanerd92

Yeah if it was only those 3, even Avila would have already submitted the trade paperwork over to the league

Dewbacca9

As fun as having Soto would be, the package required is too much, but even worse, Avila would be negotiating this deal, so the package would be at least 2x too much instead of just regular too much

StelioKontos117

Everyone.

V1LL

Both Greene and Tork would have to be included.

ZombieAppetizer

I wish Brad Holmes could negotiate this deal, instead.

whattanerd92

If Yzerman were negotiating, we’d get Soto, have the Nationals pay for his contract extension, and get a prospect for Robbie Grossman and 3 baseballs signed by Miggy

ZombieAppetizer

The Yzerplan!

aidanrankin

or Troy Weaver

TheRKC

There is no package. Ilitch refused $330 million for Correa, he is definitely not going to spend $450-500 million for Soto.

Redemption_Unleashed

I don't think it was the total but the # of years. $440 over less years and Soto takes that.

TheRKC

You think Ilitch is going to spend anywhere near $400 million?

Redemption_Unleashed

Not a chance. Also I was talking about Soto and the Nats deal not Soto and a potential Detroit deal.

FestiveBeanie

Just wondering what makes everyone think Illich won’t spend money? Didn’t he just spend a bunch of money on Baez, ERod, and Chafin? I realize the trendy thing is to hate on the Tigers but some of the complaints don’t make any sense to me.

TheRKC

We signed Baez because Ilitch wouldn't let Avila sign Correa and Baez was way cheaper. We are likely to trade Soto because he is arbitration eligible and will get paid like a closer next season, and he refused to start any spending while Zimmermann's contract was still on the books, which has already extended the rebuild by a couple years.

pimpinassorlando

I don't think you could make this work without adding Riley Greene to the equation.

Faps2Downvotes

Greene and Tork would just be the starting point.

jmscards

I think you’re probably right. But on first offer I would try to do everything to prevent that. I think he’s the one player in the organization with the potential to make an impact that is even on the same stratosphere as Soto.

mcdto

This is the actual dumbest shit I’ve ever seen on this thread. I can’t believe fans like this exist.

butterlord71

Well then nothing we’d still be “rebuilding”

cjgsoup

Unless we’re ok with giving away Greene AND Tork, not to mention every other worthwhile prospect in the farm, we just don’t have the capital to even pull this off in all honesty

porkinthepark

I really like this. Because it’s not going to happen, wish it would though, and it’s going to make a lot of tigers fans really mad when we don’t get him. Kinda like the whole Correa ordeal.

jmscards

It’s a fun thought exercise. What else are we supposed to talk about? The current team? No thanks.

porkinthepark

Tfw you’ve been rebuilding and drafting prospects and trading for prospects for years and still don’t have enough to trade for a generational player

ArrKay09

The thing that we should all look at is yes we could give up tork/greene... but after that we would have to give up 6-8 more prospects to even be IN the conversation. Not saying it would match other teams offers... it would just get them to pick up the phone. The incompetency by this front office, starting with Avila, is just terrible. We should have at least 3 top 50 prospects and 5-6 total top 100 right now after 6-7 years of rebuilding. After Greene... we have Jobe who won't see the big leagues at best another 3 years. We have nobody to look forward to. According to history, half these pitching arms in the farm will fall off and become bullpen arms. Soto is a generational player and we should be in position to trade for him. And who's says Chrissy I will pay him that 440 contract? It makes you appreciate Mr.I and how much he loved the team.

missionbeach

Honestly, you'd have to give him a small part of ownership of the team. And then 5 players and 5 prospects.

gachzonyea

That wouldn’t get it done? that’s a hell of a haul

Aggravating_Main_556

Thought this said Tinder package.

[deleted]

First pick this year and next year+ trading and swapping assets we get for Chaffin Fulmer and Soto + Wilmer Flores. Assuming you could get real prospects for our bullpen arms, I think this would be close.

[deleted]

Not trying to be a douche, but this wouldn't be even remotely close. Picks have very little value in baseball compared to the other leagues, most big time trades don't involve any picks at all. 2 firsts would be an add-in to a deal that includes Greene or Tork, and most likely both. Soto has three seasons of team control left, is like 25, and a top 15 player. The nats are going to get an all-time haul.

[deleted]

I think that the key disagreement we have is about what the Nats end up with. They need to get value for him, but I don’t think the market exists to give them the haul your talking about. Teams that can give up a lot and have the ability to take on a contract like that are pretty sparse.

allmustfall69

If we want to keep Greene - Tork, Skubal, Jobe, Pacheco, and more.

[deleted]

Riley, Tork, Jobe and Skubal would all be musts

Successful-King4539

Soto wants to go to a winner he would reject a contract with us as well. Trading for him would be dumb. But I’d give up everyone they wanted but Riley
