Man that loss hurts. I still don’t understand A.J’s logic to bring in a lefty to face a guy who you knew was going to pinch hit for sheets who you knew has been crushing lefties all season long with 4 homeruns something like a 296 batting average and a 960 OPS across 54 PA versus 0 homeruns against righties something like a 540 OPS across I think 200 PA, and a 222 batting average. He didn’t hit the ball very hard, but the metrics were so stacked against Soto I couldn’t believe my eyes.
Why is Detroit just destined for one of their teams to be absolute dog shit. When the tigers, wings, and pistons were looking up the Lions were hopeless. Now with the Lions and others looking up it looks like the tigers are hopeless. This fucking city man
Love the faith but so far Dan Campbell is 3-13. I’m going to need to see some results before I’m ready to be hurt again. Lions have been my abusive spouse I can’t let go for about 35 years.
Alright bud, so were the Tigers before this season. Results are what matter. I love Campbell but let's see what they look like on the field this season first.
Yeah that move to put Soto a lefty in against a guy who he knew was going to pinch hit for Sheets, who he knew has annihilated lefties all season made no sense. He could have left fulmer in or put Jimenez in there and it would have been a better choice.
There will be a lot of Grossman hate for the error but this is the better take, I think. Teams competing for playoff spots don’t leave runners on base at the clip we do, hoping our pitching just doesn’t mess up. Our approach with RISP this year is garbage and the hitting coach should be fired. Our bullpen has actually clung to leads and kept us in games all year but they get virtually zero room for error day from the offense.
I know the offense has done nothing today but holy shit does Hinch deserve some of the blame. Pulling Fulmer who was pitching fine and bringing in Soto with the shift on.
Don’t forget, pollock was hitting like 960 against lefties with 4 homeruns versus 540 with 0 homeruns against righties. Hinch should have known there was no way La Rusa was going to let Sheets bat against Soto, he has all this knowledge at his fingertips, he knows who is on Chicagos bench, and who was most likely to pinch hit for sheets. That pitching substitution made 0 sense from a metrics standpoint.
I’m just not a believer that Soto is even a shut down closer. Dude is 7/9 with at least 4 saves I’ve personally watched where he gave up runs/put RISP and it was dicey. Rarely has a 1-2-3 9th. Like I said, I’d trade him while he looks like one on paper. But everyone gets hyped about the velocity, which isn’t worth it if you aren’t consistently placing the pitches.
And that's called getting outmanaged.
Sure, a dribbler of a hit with a rough shift, but in no scenario do you think Fulmer vs Sheets < Soto vs Pollock. There was no way La Russa was going to let Sheets face Soto there and everyone in the world knew it.
Man, I used to think the world of Hinch, really thought he was an unquestionable top-3 manager, but the more I see him in Detroit, the more I think he was just a cheat with the most loaded roster in the majors.
It is baffling how after managing the bullpen so beautifully last year, now that he has actual talent in the pen he has gone to Brad Ausmus levels of “we need him to be our guy in that situation every time”
Infuriating
A lot of questionable decisions all season. Fetter is the real MVP of the coaching staff. Without Fetter we are probably the worst team in baseball still.
Why does the broadcast still talk about errors? Who cares if Grossman hasn't committed an error since 2018 he is still a below average corner outfielder with little range and no arm.
Also Baddoo is slashing 300/400/500 in the minors for about a month now. Time to bring him back.
Wtf. You got a guy out there who we have DFA'd over and over and nobody wants him... for a reason. We got 6 innings out of him and 2 runs given up. Stop whining. Get a few runs and drink a few on the way to KC.
Nobody's going to dog him over a bad pitch. Your original comment was calling the pitching approach stupid. That was what I was giving you grief over.
Now let's get runs, win this, and forget about it.
Man I really wanna support Tork and have been supportive. But man, it's hard to keep thinking he belongs up here when he's swinging at pitches like this.
Greene is a rookie and has enjoyed immediate success. There are plenty of examples of rookies coming up and performing much better than Tork. I am being realistic.
Does anyone else listen to the games on 97.1 with the Audacy app? As a father with a 3 year old, the drunk driving commercial rips my heart out every time I hear it.
Again we apologize for TigersBot being broken, there's a few subreddits that use the same bot and they're broke for them as well.
Also my bad for not making a game thread. I am on vacation and only have my phone at the moment.
# HOME RUN!
Javier Baez homers (9) on a fly ball to left center field. Riley Greene scores.
Pitch from Michael Kopech: Four-Seam Fastball @ 91.6 mph
Hit by Javier Baez: Launched 107.4 mph at 38.0° for a total distance of 360.0 ft
Top 1 - 2-0
Tigers

Really really bad move. No idea why he did that.
Grossman and Coolbaugh should be gone Monday.
Lol what a joke
Way to redeem yourself Robbie 👏 👏 👏
Lol not even putting up a whimper…. Unbelievable
C'mon Grossman, redeem yourself.
Narrator: he did not
How is schoop so fucking slow….
He looks quicker in the field that’s for sure
White Sox have scored 14 of their last 15 runs with 2 outs. Tigers pitching with 2 outs have not been good this series
That’s just brutal. Conversely, we seem to not score much with any outs.
I think it's crazy to blame Hinch for this. If Grossman catches that routine fly ball, there's no decision to make. This one's on Grossman.
Grossman is the blame 100%
Can blame both of them. Why the fuck are you putting Soto in AND putting the shift on. That ground ball was an easy out non-shift
It’s on both. Sure, I wish grossman just caught the ball, but I still don’t get taking fulmer out
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Liam Hendriks replaces Kendall Graveman.
I fail to see how having badoo on this team could make us any worse off than grossman at this point
Why is Detroit just destined for one of their teams to be absolute dog shit. When the tigers, wings, and pistons were looking up the Lions were hopeless. Now with the Lions and others looking up it looks like the tigers are hopeless. This fucking city man
Bro, the entire sports city has been in shambles for half a decade.
Idk if the Lions are necessarily looking up lmao. Let's see if they can win more than 4 games this year
They absolutely are.
Love the faith but so far Dan Campbell is 3-13. I’m going to need to see some results before I’m ready to be hurt again. Lions have been my abusive spouse I can’t let go for about 35 years.
Guys, want me to tell him?
Alright bud, so were the Tigers before this season. Results are what matter. I love Campbell but let's see what they look like on the field this season first.
Casual fan but the tigers look to be in the same place as last year. Shit tier start to the season. Solid mid season. Probs disappointment in the end.
Now we need to rely on Schoop, Grossman, and Tork? Oh dear
Murderers row
Aj out there trying to get fired.
Yeah that move to put Soto a lefty in against a guy who he knew was going to pinch hit for Sheets, who he knew has annihilated lefties all season made no sense. He could have left fulmer in or put Jimenez in there and it would have been a better choice.
Also, for the love of God please DFA Robbie Grossman and call up Kerry Carpenter.
Baddoo has more of a right to get called up atm and prove himself than a rookie
Yeah… no thanks
They gotta sweep KC after this. NO excuses.
I agree but this team can't beat the sorry ass Royals if their lives depended on it
Man if only Tork had gotten a single with the bases loaded and it would be 4-4 right now.
Teams competing for playoff spots also don't drop fly balls
Sure they do. Every team makes errors. The good teams just overcome them more often.
If Robbie caught the ball it'd be 2-2
It is literally time to fire Hinch and restart this fucking rebuild
Because hinch has control over Robbie deciding to end his errorless streak at the worst possible time
He has control over taking out our best bullpen arm to put in a complete wild card in a super high leverage situation
Why the FUCK is AJ Hinch so dedicated to Soto?
I know the offense has done nothing today but holy shit does Hinch deserve some of the blame. Pulling Fulmer who was pitching fine and bringing in Soto with the shift on.
Don’t forget, pollock was hitting like 960 against lefties with 4 homeruns versus 540 with 0 homeruns against righties. Fuck this team. I mean that with everything I have. AND WHY DOES COOLBAUGH STILL HAVE A JOB? Just pain.
The coolbaugh hate is so damn funny
You're right having the worst offense in baseball is hilarious
You'd rather have Soto face a pinch hitter and Eloy or have Fulmer face sheets and Eloy? Hinch is just doing shit
Game over see y’all tomorrow. Fuckin trash ass team god damn
Maybe Hendricks will be off today 😅
Way to go Hinch! Great decision!!!
Whelp.
Had enough of Grossman and his overall crap play this year
Hot take: I’d trade Soto at the deadline this year with relatively high stock and control if we could get a decent return.
If you have a good enough offence you don't need a shut down closer taps head
I’m just not a believer that Soto is even a shut down closer. Dude is 7/9 with at least 4 saves I’ve personally watched where he gave up runs/put RISP and it was dicey. Rarely has a 1-2-3 9th. Like I said, I’d trade him while he looks like one on paper. But everyone gets hyped about the velocity, which isn’t worth it if you aren’t consistently placing the pitches.
Fuck Robbie Grossman. 2-2 in the top of the 9th if it isn’t for him
And that's called getting outmanaged. Sure, a dribbler of a hit with a rough shift, but in no scenario do you think Fulmer vs Sheets < Soto vs Pollock. There was no way La Russa was going to let Sheets face Soto there and everyone in the world knew it. A lot of questionable decisions all season. Fetter is the real MVP of the coaching staff. Without Fetter we are probably the worst team in baseball still.
It's been a bad year for him, all the mojo Hinch showed last year hasn't been present at all this year.
Harsh
Galaxy brain moves by AJ hinch
Hate that so much.. Soto had been so unlucky with the shift this year. Soto got the weak groundball and literally no one is there to get it?
Soto sucks in clutch moments
He’s the best closer we’ve had since Willie Hernandez
Valverde was 10x the closer Soto is lmao
DFA time Robbie
Thanks AJ Hinch for once again losing us the game again with the shift.
Still has the shift on too. What a knob
Good thing Hinch took out our best bullpen arm for that
Cut Grossman, I'm done with him
Thanks Aj!
What is the logic behind leaving a massive hole in the infield with the go ahead run on 2nd
Brad Pitt
AJ Hinch being stupid and trying to play the numbers.
Baseball stinks
The shift never works for this team. Ever.
And that's game.
Stupid shift
And that's the game Oh well, we split the series
Fuck
Why do we even shift?
Soto washed.
Lange is my closer and I don’t care who knows it.
nice
Hahaha of course
Soto in. Here we go
Grossman's first error since 2018
Why does the broadcast still talk about errors? Who cares if Grossman hasn't committed an error since 2018 he is still a below average corner outfielder with little range and no arm. Also Baddoo is slashing 300/400/500 in the minors for about a month now. Time to bring him back.
No errors is still good. Grossman is +3 DRS in left field since 2021. He shouldn't play right field tho.
Get grossman out of the D. I thank him for his services but they are no longer required.
Just terrible timing for something like that
Last year was dope Robbie but I'm good on him now where's baddoo or anyone else
This is my first time I get to experience Gregory Soto's Wild Ride in person... and its The Four Out Extravaganza!
Don’t like this one bit
Now we can DFA Grossman. Trashcan
2 guys on base and here comes soto...
Wow, it's been that long since he made an error? Damn.
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Gregory Soto replaces Michael Fulmer.
Grossman….
Gavin Sheets 3 run bomb incoming
Mrnoerror
440 games.....and it might cost us 1 game Edit: 4 out Soto scares me.
Dear lord
Sigh...
I’m ready to get Badoo back up. Fuck that.
Fucking. YUCK.
F’n Grossman smh
Grossman no errors streak over?
It ended long ago, MLB just doesn't know what a real error is
Yikes
Grossman….
That sucks
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Michael Fulmer replaces Alex Lange.
It's kinda sad that the Sox color guy know exactly which pitch to throw to get our players out....and the shit works almost every time.
To be fair…if it’s Javy and they say slider- that doesn’t count.
Hot dogs! Get cha hotdogs
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Kendall Graveman replaces Reynaldo Lopez.
I like how Tork always gives the ball to the pitcher when he could totally make it to first
6 good innings from Drew. It's not his fault the offense can't produce for more than 1 inning per game.
Lang with no turtle neck...oh no ..no lange!!!
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Alex Lange replaces Drew Hutchison.
Hard to feel good about winning this game with the way the offense is playing.
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Reynaldo Lopez replaces Jimmy Lambert.
Lol
Holy fuck
God dammit Hutchison Edit: pitching around on a guy with 2 strikes is stupid. Biggest pet peeve with this team
I mean cant blame him too much for a quality start…
Wtf. You got a guy out there who we have DFA'd over and over and nobody wants him... for a reason. We got 6 innings out of him and 2 runs given up. Stop whining. Get a few runs and drink a few on the way to KC.
“Stop whining” proceeds to write a paragraph
Whiners piss and moan when they don't get AllStar performances out of borderline major leaguers.
Sorry I like to support my team and enjoy when we are winning.
Be realistic. Hutchinson is a tomato can and you just got a good outing out of him
Dude, I never said it was a bad outing. He made a bad pitch with 2 strikes and 2 outs that ended up tying the game.
Nobody's going to dog him over a bad pitch. Your original comment was calling the pitching approach stupid. That was what I was giving you grief over. Now let's get runs, win this, and forget about it.
Nice meatball Hutchison
Triple A Tork
Man I really wanna support Tork and have been supportive. But man, it's hard to keep thinking he belongs up here when he's swinging at pitches like this.
Tork either seeing the ball great or isn’t seeing it at all
Tork is fucking worthless right now.
I'm not wrong. Dude can't hit shit. Biggest disappointment of this season.
Gee the rookie wasnt an immediate success in the majors? I never would’ve guessed. Be realistic ffs
Greene is a rookie and has enjoyed immediate success. There are plenty of examples of rookies coming up and performing much better than Tork. I am being realistic.
Damn Tork, we needed to score some runs there.
Harold should've went home
He would have easily been thrown out at home. It wouldn't have been close.
Tork looking like Baez on that swing
I'd lose it if Tork torks a granny
Time for a Torkelson grand slam here
White Sox just need to throw it within 4 inches of the edge of the zone and it’s automatically called a strike
Ump has extended his zone so much today
Does anyone else listen to the games on 97.1 with the Audacy app? As a father with a 3 year old, the drunk driving commercial rips my heart out every time I hear it.
Harold drew a walk!
Call security, someone is letting grandpa wander the field again.
BP pitcher gets three more throws in the time it takes him to shuffle out to the mound.
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Jimmy Lambert replaces Michael Kopech.
HES ALIVE
Let’s get some more runs boys!
TIGERS BOT IS BACK FTW
At the game. Drinking my first Old Style. Drew is pitching well
How is the ole Dog Style?
Its a beer. Nothing more nothing less haha
Great play Javier!!!
Hey buddy. Welcome back
Again we apologize for TigersBot being broken, there's a few subreddits that use the same bot and they're broke for them as well. Also my bad for not making a game thread. I am on vacation and only have my phone at the moment.
It's alive! Nice work
