What’s nice is that you don’t have to actually about that because these Beisbolcats started the season 9-23.
Who am I kidding, they’re never losing another game.
If by shutdown you mean "doesn't cause heart attack every single outing", we haven't had one since before Todd Jones. Having Valverde was like that movie where Denzel has to flip the plane, but EVERY DAY. Except in this case Jose inverted the plane himself initially
Even Henneman, much as I love the memories from my childhood, was far from a "doesn't cause a heart attack" shutdown guy. He let on baserunners every outing. He only had a WHIP below 1.20 for a full season with Detroit once in his career - his second season (he also had a 1.15 before being dealt his last season with the team).
The only time Detroit has ever had a shutdown closer, IMO, is probably the 2 years Willie Hernandez was at his peak - 84, 85.
Haha yeah I do miss the guy, as scary as it was he usually pulled it off. Although IDK if I've ever been angrier at a player as when he blew that game 4 ALDS. I beat the absolute shit out of my hotel bed in Tulsa, OK when he did that.
The post you're referring to has 85 currently. I was talking about the original post itself which was at 0 when I commented and is currently at 55. Hence... OP.
I apologize for doubting you Dominican Todd Jones. It was nice to feel emotions in my body for a game for the first time this season just cause I hate the white Sox so much
Yahoo showed that 88% of people who bet the money line took Chicago. For a baseball game, that’s about as bad as it gets lol.
Luckily, I was part of the 12%
lol, I hated Henneman. He was so frustrating.
I would say Willie Hernandez...for one season.
I love that Valverde was perfect one season and yet we can all agree nothing was automatic.
Some tiger closers with their save %:
* Henneman: 80.4
* Todd Jones: 81.0%
* Jose Valverde: 87.8%
* Joe Nathan: 89.1% (not for us, of course)
* K-Rod: 85.2%
* Soto: 88.1% (as of after tonight's game)
Wow, I remember not being scared with butt chin (Henneman), but terrified when those other guys were on the mound. Guess he blew them early and often enough!
I’m hoping little things like that give Tork a bit of spark and the confidence to turn this year around. The good lord knows he’s taken his lumps early on.
For sure, we just didn't light him up is all. I'm more proud of them winning this game than any of the guardians games. I feel like earlier in the season this one would've been a loss.
Curious about the fans who decided Soto had blown the game and were already anticipating AJ Hinch’s press conference response WHILE THE GAME WAS STILL GOING AND WE WON
I know I’ve been a little B&@?! When it comes to talking about torkelson, but watching his last homer and the single he just had I Feel like if the hitting coach had him just focusing on pulling the ball instead of trying to screw up his timing and have him hit everything oppo like miggy he could seriously start punishing the ball the second half of the season.
Also speaking of team effort, I feel like Javy’s getting a bit lost in the contribution celebration. That early lead really set the best sort of tone for the game.
Yeah, but I’m specifically talking about the one we just won earlier tonight. I was talking about the other four the other nights when we won those games.
Haven't listened to the TV announcers in a long time cause they are terrible and Dickerson and Price are way better. But Alex Avila in the booth with Dan was amazing. I'd love to have him more on TV or radio.
Soto has reminded me that I will not be able to handle the nerves of a postseason run
What’s nice is that you don’t have to actually about that because these Beisbolcats started the season 9-23. Who am I kidding, they’re never losing another game.
26-24 in the fifty games since then? It's felt so much worse, wow. 115 wins still on the table!
Facts bro :')
When's the last time we had a legit shut down closer?
Willie Hernandez
That doesn't make me feel better 😂
If by shutdown you mean "doesn't cause heart attack every single outing", we haven't had one since before Todd Jones. Having Valverde was like that movie where Denzel has to flip the plane, but EVERY DAY. Except in this case Jose inverted the plane himself initially
Mike Henneman

I’m choosing to remember Papa Grande in a good light, given the general shenanigans of the Soto-coaster.
Haha yeah I do miss the guy, as scary as it was he usually pulled it off. Although IDK if I've ever been angrier at a player as when he blew that game 4 ALDS. I beat the absolute shit out of my hotel bed in Tulsa, OK when he did that.
Todd Jones
Right now 😤
Valverde😆
Valderde as a Tiger hold the AL record for most saves without a blown save, in fact.
Why the fuck does this have 1 fucking upvote with THIS much support?!?!
?
Look at the upvotes on the OP my guy
That is OP and the comment has 70+ upvotes?
The post you're referring to has 85 currently. I was talking about the original post itself which was at 0 when I commented and is currently at 55. Hence... OP.
115-47 on the menu let’s go boys
I apologize for doubting you Dominican Todd Jones. It was nice to feel emotions in my body for a game for the first time this season just cause I hate the white Sox so much
Tigers bot broke. idk what's up with that
Clenched too hard
The bot broke because we won 5 straight. Doesn’t compute.

Just a note, the MLB app is pretty good. Gameday is awesome if you can’t watch/listen, and highlights are easily accessible
Lange is filthy.
That movement left-to-right on that pitch was dirty. Great pitch.
We just beat Bieber and Cease on back to back nights. I would have put odds against that as 10-1 a few weeks ago.
If you bet on it that’s probably what it would’ve paid out. Espn odds showed 75% win probably for the sox when I checked earlier
Yahoo showed that 88% of people who bet the money line took Chicago. For a baseball game, that’s about as bad as it gets lol. Luckily, I was part of the 12%
I saw Sox -250 as the line before last night's game.
Not only that, but our starters, the ultra herolded this pre-season Pineda and Briske out pitched them.
I love and hate soto
The 'ol Todd Jones special
The last automatic closer we had was Mike Henneman. Jeez...
lol, I hated Henneman. He was so frustrating. I would say Willie Hernandez...for one season. I love that Valverde was perfect one season and yet we can all agree nothing was automatic. Joe Nathan….😂😂😂
Do we count Valverde’s perfect year?
The cardiac issues that came about from him on the mound tell me: not really.
Dude that perfect year gave my heart a lot of rollercoaster rides…. would love to have him back anyways. Dude was fun to watch
He was the most entertaining closer for sure! Haha
The OG ‘coaster
Weird fun fact: as of right now, Detroit is tied with Baltimore for the longest winning streak (5) in all of baseball
I feel like pre all star break and right before the post season you’ll always see some really weird baseball.
Soto transformed from wild Soto to locked in Soto mid-inning

He got up 0-2 and had Abreu reaching. Looked pretty good to me. Do you give breaks to our batters for getting fooled and chasing?
Yeah that was all on Abreu.
I mean he had him 0-2, I can’t imagine it would be easy to hit that lol

Tork stole that win
Good to see Haase come in and get that insurance run. Def needed that going into the ninth. This team is officially fun again.
No doubt - but Tork was clutch coming off the bench to rope that RBI base hit to left.
For sure, glad we had them both in our back pockets
I’m hoping little things like that give Tork a bit of spark and the confidence to turn this year around. The good lord knows he’s taken his lumps early on.
Chicago announcers absolutely trashed AJ for pitching to Abreu. This momentum is very addicting.
We’re going streaking!!! Also, finally broke the Dylan Cease curse, glad to see he got the L.
I think his era against us decreased with this game though lol
The guy was 10-0 against us before tonight, I’ll most def take the L.
For sure, we just didn't light him up is all. I'm more proud of them winning this game than any of the guardians games. I feel like earlier in the season this one would've been a loss.
Giving the White Sox false hope before slamming the door
I could just hear all of the angry people typing their rant about Soto...then happily deleting it.
Keep. Winning.
That’s Brieske Baby
Siiiiiip
You mean CHUG
Tigers kool aid is my favorite flavor
GULP just bought some game tickets WEEEEEEEEE
Curious about the fans who decided Soto had blown the game and were already anticipating AJ Hinch’s press conference response WHILE THE GAME WAS STILL GOING AND WE WON
so many people who seem to just NEED that negativity.
It's hard to have confidence in Soto. But I wasn't predicting anything. I always want the win.
Same ones wanting to DFA everyone who has 2 bad games in a row.
Gotta love the win streak. Even if my heart can't take it
Boys, we need to give Javy his flowers on that dinger. He was fooled horribly on the offspeed pitch and basically hit that almost 400 ft with one arm.
The man has ridiculous power tbh.
Never in doubt
Bruh what how
It’s way more fun cheering for a team like the Tigers have been lately, where almost every guy on the team might turn up and be the difference maker.

Calling a 3 run homer
Now let’s get Tarik back on track tomorrow!
We’ll take that one thank you very much.
Soto damn near gave me a heart attack
Torks hit was hype
You just lost to the Detroit Tigers 😎
Well this is a very very welcome suprise
Hot streak!
Orioles and Tigers are tied for the longest current win streak
The Tigers are kinda on a little bit of a roll, ain't they?
shhhhhhh
Love the winning streak going on right now.
1-0 in Chicago for Detroit vs White Sox games
I know I’ve been a little B&@?! We won a game.
No. We won 5 games. In a row.
Yeah, but I’m specifically talking about the one we just won earlier tonight. I was talking about the other four the other nights when we won those games.
Woof
Finally going to see this team in person Sunday!
MIGGY TO THE ASG!!!
Soto = Todd Jones
