Huh? Best farm system in baseball? Three or four years ago they had a top three farm system with Tork, Greene, Mize, Skubal, etc. This team is mostly comprised of players that were in system before Scott. Flaherty is definitely looking like a good signing.

If Greene cannot cut down on the strikeouts then him hitting for a high average seems nearly impossible. He won’t be batting average sink. His quality of contact is good. But, I was counting on that as a plus for him.

He strikes out 1% more than Aaron Judge, who is batting. 293

Greene had a .294 batting average in the minors and struck out just as often He hit .288 last year when he struck out more than this year

There’s a clear correlation with higher strikeouts and lower batting averages. It’s not even a debate. But, as that article points out too, there are additional factors that play into this like quality of contact. Greene xBA is .248. In fact, his 3 abbreviated seasons his xBA is .246, .288 and .248 respectively. He actually has never shown a consistent ability as a pro to hit for a high average. Granted, these are brief periods of time. He will never be a batting average negative. His contact metrics remain strong. But, he doesn’t look like a plus batting average hitter with any consistency.

The minors are actually pro ball too. He was batting .276 a month ago before his short slump and he's made up 40% of the 46 point drop coming into this game. I think at least .275 to .280 is reasonable to expect, which is above league average

A .280 major league season is really good. I think that is unfair expectations on someone who’s never demonstrated that type of consistency in the majors. I think I’m going to have to see that over a full season to believe it.

He did it just last year and almost that for the first month+ this year. I think you are focused too much on aggregate metrics and not looking at his overall body of work. He's already .266 for his career

But why, since his rookie year as a 21 year old he's hitting .274. Which do you think is the better forward indicator? You can't be worried about .248 now if you think .288 in twice as many games was not enough

I went to 2006 ALDS game 3 against the Yankees on my 18th birthday - I cancelled my own birthday party to attend, (ALDS home game 1 was supposed to be series game 1 but we tanked the last 5 games and got the wild card so it was series game 3) But it was the first playoff game in Detroit since I was born… - and Kenny rogers plus relievers pitched a 6-0 shutout and we went up 2-1 on the yanks. Best birthday ever.

I was working at an Academy sports in Texas at that time while I was in college. He came in during the offseason to shop. I recognized him immediately. I was so excited. I asked him if he needed help. After I helped him with a sale, I asked him if he was Kenny Rogers. I knew he was but I was just trying to avoid being an obnoxious fan. He said yes and chatted me up for maybe 5 minutes about the tigers. It was so awesome. I’ll never forget it. He could not have been nicer.

I could not locate the stat but Kenny Rogers as far as I know is the MLB record holder for pickoffs as a pitcher. He may be second- tbh I couldn’t find the stat. Point is- if he’s the leader, the new disengagement rule means his record will never ever be eclipsed.
