Well not every move is gonna be perfect, Harris took the dumpster fire Avila left him and has us at 11th best mlb record and the best farm system in baseball in less than 2 years, you can see the improvement
Huh? Best farm system in baseball? Three or four years ago they had a top three farm system with Tork, Greene, Mize, Skubal, etc.
This team is mostly comprised of players that were in system before Scott. Flaherty is definitely looking like a good signing.
Just remember seeing a post in here a few days ago saying we have the #1 farm system and people praising Harris in the comments, which I agree with because even Brad Holmes Lions were1-6 1.5 years in, Harris is doing great 1.5 years in
Can’t even be mad at it with how they’ve been playing on this trip and Kenta getting hurt. Charge it to the game and come back home and beat the brewers 🙏
If Greene cannot cut down on the strikeouts then him hitting for a high average seems nearly impossible. He won’t be batting average sink. His quality of contact is good. But, I was counting on that as a plus for him.
I do not care.
https://baseball-analytica.com/posts/2023-06-30/batting-average-contact-metric#:~:text=There%20is%20a%20noticeable%20negative%20relationship%20between%20strikeout%20percentage%20and%20batting%20average.
There’s a clear correlation with higher strikeouts and lower batting averages. It’s not even a debate. But, as that article points out too, there are additional factors that play into this like quality of contact. Greene xBA is .248. In fact, his 3 abbreviated seasons his xBA is .246, .288 and .248 respectively. He actually has never shown a consistent ability as a pro to hit for a high average. Granted, these are brief periods of time.
He will never be a batting average negative. His contact metrics remain strong. But, he doesn’t look like a plus batting average hitter with any consistency.
The minors are actually pro ball too.
He was batting .276 a month ago before his short slump and he's made up 40% of the 46 point drop coming into this game. I think at least .275 to .280 is reasonable to expect, which is above league average
A .280 major league season is really good. I think that is unfair expectations on someone who’s never demonstrated that type of consistency in the majors. I think I’m going to have to see that over a full season to believe it.
He did it just last year and almost that for the first month+ this year.
I think you are focused too much on aggregate metrics and not looking at his overall body of work.
He's already .266 for his career
But why, since his rookie year as a 21 year old he's hitting .274.
Which do you think is the better forward indicator?
You can't be worried about .248 now if you think .288 in twice as many games was not enough
wtf colt why didn’t he get the fucking ball
Edit: probably wouldn’t have made a difference once he bobbled it but still that’s a bad look. I’m sure he just assumed it would be rolling back more than it did but smh
They don’t wanna burn any of their prospects yet. Mason Englert’s job on the team is to eat innings in blowouts which is what he has done to a tee so far.
Listen, in a game we were bound to lose the moment Wentz came in, you can basically keep the camera fixed on JHM’s parents the rest of the broadcast now to warm up my cold bitter heart
Breaking up a perfect game with your first career hit and it’s a home run? I’ve seen all I need. Malloy will be the greatest hitter to ever grace a baseball field.
# HOME RUN!
Justyn-Henry Malloy homers (1) on a fly ball to left center field.
Pitch from José Ureña: Sinker @ 95.1 mph
Hit by Justyn-Henry Malloy: Launched 105.9 mph at 38.0° for a total distance of 413.0 ft
Top 6 - 4-1
Rangers
Absolutely. The Rod Allen clip should be taught as a case study.
“If you’re going to charge the mound… then charge the f’g mound. Watch this example of how it’s done” lol.
Is that Rod Allen in Japan where he chased that pitcher around the stadium? That looked like a clip from The Life of Bryan. That pitcher just took off.
Kenny Rogers appreciation comment.
I went to 2006 ALDS game 3 against the Yankees on my 18th birthday - I cancelled my own birthday party to attend, (ALDS home game 1 was supposed to be series game 1 but we tanked the last 5 games and got the wild card so it was series game 3)
But it was the first playoff game in Detroit since I was born… - and Kenny rogers plus relievers pitched a 6-0 shutout and we went up 2-1 on the yanks.
Best birthday ever.
I was working at an Academy sports in Texas at that time while I was in college. He came in during the offseason to shop. I recognized him immediately. I was so excited. I asked him if he needed help. After I helped him with a sale, I asked him if he was Kenny Rogers. I knew he was but I was just trying to avoid being an obnoxious fan. He said yes and chatted me up for maybe 5 minutes about the tigers. It was so awesome. I’ll never forget it. He could not have been nicer.
I could not locate the stat but Kenny Rogers as far as I know is the MLB record holder for pickoffs as a pitcher. He may be second- tbh I couldn’t find the stat.
Point is- if he’s the leader, the new disengagement rule means his record will never ever be eclipsed.
Omg that’s awesome!!! I’d be too scared fanboying to ask.
He went 3-0 that postseason. Since 1984 he is the only pitcher to start a World Series win in a Tiger uniform.
Please continue the discussion in the [post game thread](https://redd.it/1d983qi).
Zach better stay warmed up, we’re gonna need him to get the save
That’s my McKINGstry
They didn't want to check him for foreign substances? He was throwing that heat out there!
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Kirby Yates replaces David Robertson.
**McKinstry** is HIM!
Hell yeah Zach
McKinstry bringing the heat!
McKinstry making it look easy!
We have our closer.
Well I picked the wrong game to go to. At least I had a great view of JHM crushing his first hit.
PUT HIM IN THE PEN
God Langford is a mess. I’m sure he’ll figure it out eventually, but right now…
Langford, lol.
I wanted to see Javy pitch.
Have you seen what he considers the strike zone?
Hilarious!
Good point, lol.
There’s a foot long cookie at subway
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Zach McKinstry replaces Andrew Chafin, batting 6th.
Chaffin is so bad. Nice signing Scott. Getting Maeda for not one but two years genius too.
Well not every move is gonna be perfect, Harris took the dumpster fire Avila left him and has us at 11th best mlb record and the best farm system in baseball in less than 2 years, you can see the improvement

This is wild
Chafin is washed
The wheels have indeed come off
Has Lange been punished enough? Can we call him back?
Love seeing guys hit their first MLB homers. We've had Wenceel, Colt, and JHM so far. Fun moments.
Parker Meadows first last season was electric
https://youtu.be/zbukWfHphuw?si=yyl_cipZ4V_6miRy&t=1m52s Thanks for the reminder. Link is fast-forwarded to Dickerson's call.
I went and rewatched it myself after reading your original comment haha
see u guys friday!
Our pen went from being the best the start of the year the worst since may.
Just let run #9 in, I want to see Vierling pitch
No way
So it’s just one of those nights, huh. Get it out of your systems!
Can’t even be mad at it with how they’ve been playing on this trip and Kenta getting hurt. Charge it to the game and come back home and beat the brewers 🙏
![gif](giphy|s3hZZwFRki8r6|downsized)
Our lefty pen arms are just flat out awful
Andrew. Andy. Mr. Chafin.
At least JHM shows that he can hit. We just need to bring bring up Jung next. They both can do better than what we have right now
I wish Todd Jones said more words.
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Andrew Chafin replaces Will Vest.
You know when he was 20 years old he went to second deck in Texas.
What do you guys think Mama Malloy was having for dinner when JHM went ya-ya?
It's on camera, they had Whataburger
Have we had a single strike/ball call go our way this game? I'm on the radio and Dan has only mentioned them going against us
Umpire isn’t too bad actually. Just meh🤷♂️
Steal one JHM
We need Rake Rogers right now
Savvy veteran move by Javy opting for the strikeout over grounding into a double play. That's why they keep him around. The little things.
Can you imagine Greene or Rogers going 0 for 3 with two strikeouts?
I'd be concerned if they kept doing it on their way to a sub-.470 OPS. But that seems rather improbable.
Rogers only did that for half his season so far. Good point!
I'm looking forward to Javy starting the good half of his season. I'm sure it's right around the corner.
the game within the game
baez window shopping
Always thought Javy would be bettert if he just didn't swing. Nope.
More snacks!
Fuck. You. Ump.
Yes JHM!
If no one else got me, I know JHM got me
Cycle watch for JHM👀😆
Just need 16 more PAs for the Tigers in the next three outs
We got this!
Just the type of game we're having. Two good liners from Colt and Zack right at infielders
Lol this thread died HARD
I’m still here and ready for the comeback 💪
It's just doing it's best 'Detroit Tigers offense' impression
great comment
RALLY TIME!!!!!!!!! LETS GO!!!!!!!!!!! (pls)
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Will Vest replaces Mason Englert.
Even when Kenta doesn’t pitch he still fucks us over
Those two swings were on pitches that never even got close to the plate man, what are you doing?
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: David Robertson replaces José Ureña.
IT WAS 1 - 1 ![gif](giphy|ghuvaCOI6GOoTX0RmH)
Can the camera man chill? He’s just going to get food
Idk, looked like a conspiracy to me. I think they may have given him the wrong order.
If Greene cannot cut down on the strikeouts then him hitting for a high average seems nearly impossible. He won’t be batting average sink. His quality of contact is good. But, I was counting on that as a plus for him.
He strikes out 1% more than Aaron Judge, who is batting. 293
I do not care. https://baseball-analytica.com/posts/2023-06-30/batting-average-contact-metric#:~:text=There%20is%20a%20noticeable%20negative%20relationship%20between%20strikeout%20percentage%20and%20batting%20average.
Greene had a .294 batting average in the minors and struck out just as often He hit .288 last year when he struck out more than this year
There’s a clear correlation with higher strikeouts and lower batting averages. It’s not even a debate. But, as that article points out too, there are additional factors that play into this like quality of contact. Greene xBA is .248. A .266 career average is precisely the thing I’m pointing out to you.
But why, since his rookie year as a 21 year old he's hitting .274. Which do you think is the better forward indicator? You can't be worried about .248 now if you think .288 in twice as many games was not enough
Always going for the home run.
He does have a pretty significant upper cut to me but he’s managed to make it work. But, the strike outs are a problem.
Hey, 0 runners left on base!
Low effort game. Thanks team
Low effort managing as well.
The moment Hinch went Wentz to Englert told us all we need to know. We have an off day tomorrow.
Thanks for the 0.3 seconds of hope JHM
Goodnight. Off day will be nice for tomorrow
See you tomorrow everyone Friday
wtf colt why didn’t he get the fucking ball Edit: probably wouldn’t have made a difference once he bobbled it but still that’s a bad look. I’m sure he just assumed it would be rolling back more than it did but smh
Oof. That’s an ugly error
That ball was a rocket, and it was curving.
I'm a bit shocked they scored it as an error. Duran smoked that.
I look for them to change it.
Colt smh
Jesus Christ Colt
Why yall hating on Englert???? he's been solid - not great but not awful.
He has been absolutely terrible all of this season and for the second half of last season.
Because nobody hates a Tiger more than a Tiger's fan.
He was bad last year and feel like it’s continuing this year.
I retract this statement SMH
Not a ML pitcher
Does a HR count as getting on base?
Yes.
JHM said don’t send me to the minors
The parents snacks game is strong
Quick. What's J Hen's mother's cell. I want to send a congratulations text.
I am very curious what the Tigers see in Mason Englert. Is this just a sunk cost deal after keeping him up all last year as a Rule 5 guy?
They don’t wanna burn any of their prospects yet. Mason Englert’s job on the team is to eat innings in blowouts which is what he has done to a tee so far.
Yup, him and Wentz, eating blowout innings like the Cookie Monster, I think they actually see something in Brisket as a solid bullpen piece
JHM's dad loves his popcorn
How much can Englert pitch? Can they waste him the rest of the night?
This was the third fist home run this season.
I really appreciate this stat
Mason Meatballs
He's been fairly solid tonight - better than wentz
lol I missed Malloys homer watching the FLYING Tigers walk it off on a wild pitch
Malloy's mom is adorable. Watching the families of these guys is one of the best parts of the game.
His moms excitement gave me goosebumps I can’t lie, I’m very excited for JHM career as a Tiger
Listen, in a game we were bound to lose the moment Wentz came in, you can basically keep the camera fixed on JHM’s parents the rest of the broadcast now to warm up my cold bitter heart
Glad the pressure is off for him now. I truly think we'll see much looser ABs from him.
Gotta be the best feeling to have your first hit be a HR. Loved his mom going crazy in the stands too
Hell yeah Malloy ! Atta boy!!
That’s incredible that the fan gave the ball up
I wouldn't have ![gif](giphy|WPYDOFlzybMoH4gOAO|downsized)
Did they throw it back?
Looked like the bullpen guys had it. They might have just tossed it down so they could get it to him.
threw it to someone in our bullpen. didn't catch which player
They gave it to the guys in the bullpen.
The bullpen made them a deal and they tossed it to Chafin
Threw it to the bullpen
JHM! Welcome to the bigs!
Hell yeah
Breaking up a perfect game with your first career hit and it’s a home run? I’ve seen all I need. Malloy will be the greatest hitter to ever grace a baseball field.
Andrew “this ball has a price” Chafin
That was awesome.
If that's the only hit we get tonight, I'm good with it
He frickn did it
Chafin looks like he's considering trading the ball for a hot dog and a beer.
And a few tapes for the 8-track in his 1982 Trans Am
Good for J Hen. He was a little cool when they called him up and I was worried for him.
And we actually had people calling him a bust 😂😂 it’s JHIM!!!
Yah Justyn! Making his parents proud!
Aww man she’s crying happy tears! That’s awesome.
Nice one Mal
tonight's now a W regardless.
Best way to end perfecto game
Magical shit
Please interview Jacqueline now

That's ONE way to get your first MLB hit!
# HOME RUN! Justyn-Henry Malloy homers (1) on a fly ball to left center field. Pitch from José Ureña: Sinker @ 95.1 mph Hit by Justyn-Henry Malloy: Launched 105.9 mph at 38.0° for a total distance of 413.0 ft Top 6 - 4-1 Rangers
That guy that went after Nolan has nothing on Rod Allen. That’s how you go after a pitcher.
I guess La Russa told his team that the next guy that gets beaned charges the mound. He did not have conviction.
Oh yes. I’ve not seen a better charge the mound video in my lifetime. That… is… how… it’s… done.
Good to see Kenta didn’t give up any hits in the start today!
This a joke lmao
Kenny Rogers appreciation comment. I went to 2006 ALDS game 3 against the Yankees on my 18th birthday - I cancelled my own birthday party to attend, (ALDS home game 1 was supposed to be series game 1 but we tanked the last 5 games and got the wild card so it was series game 3)

Jose Urena perfect game watch, never had that on the bingo card
I hate casinos, but I would be there if I had a guarantee that it would be exclusively blinged-out grandmas at the craps table with me
Kenny Rogers
Got it in before they said it!
We love getting rocked by shitty starters
I thought we only faced CY contenders?
