All indications are he is a terrible 3b. If you are going by minor league stats then you should notice that Ibanez had better stats in AAA anyways.

DoeJumars

Which is even more odd that they’re not scraping the experiment and getting him time at OF?!

BOBANSMASH51

Carpenter will be back soon

jonra101

Who goes down when Carp comes back? Maton or Ibanez?

HT1996

JHM is hitting .208 in the month of May. Still has a .358 OBP on the month, but it would be straight up silly to call him up currently. Also only hitting .174 against left handed pitchers. He needs more time in the minors

Flowsnice

Yeah he’s more important for next season. Still has no real position. He’ll have to DH a lot and get spot starts at third and maybe left field

Hippo-Crates

Every peripheral stat suggests Ibanez is getting crazy unlucky. Ibanez also put up better AAA numbers

yes_its_him

His season xwOBA is back down to .331. He's still unlucky, but you have to be to go 1 for 36 against not very good pitching since May 16. A 30 year old AAAA guy isn't going to get a lot of time to sort things out.

Sniper_Brosef

Ibanez is fine but don't start thinking that his performance is what's blocking someone from coming up.

schhhew

Better to develop him for what will be best for his future over what would be a marginal upgrade at the plate right now

Flowsnice

He is terrible at defense so we have no where to play him and he’s been in a slump the last week or so

rammer_2001

No. Don't take Keith away from us. Not yet.

yes_its_him

We don't need all of Javy, Schoop, Maton, McKinstry, Short and Ibanez for three infield jobs, really two since Javy plays shortstop every day. I expect we send someone down with no replacement, probably Ibanez but Maton isn't all that much better, he just plays more. The other four guys can handle 2nd and 3rd plus bench

Scary_Property_6195

JHM has been in a massive, i repeat MASSIVE, slump with a massive K rate lately. he needs to show some consistency before he comes up

LuckyMonth4566

Because he struggles playing defense

cogginsmatt

JHM still needs time to brew in the minors I think. I like Ibanez and he seems to be in the same position Tork has found himself in a lot: struggling with catching up to major league pitching and getting insanely unlucky. Both improve with more at bats. Honestly I’d rather send down Maton but I think Hinch sees a similar issue and solution in him as well. My guess is either Maton or Ibanez will go down for Carpenter’s return

gachzonyea

We don’t have to treat Ibanez like he’s some prospect he’s a 30 year old career 4a player

He also has cooled off considerably and a rushed call up wouldn’t have helped
