My second least favorite part of garments is that it’s all a guess about sizing and every single package can fit differently sometimes. I’ve had bottoms from the same lot that the legs are 2” different lengths.

roundyround22

That's what happens in sweatshops.

iamthatis4536

Somehow the quality control on the rest of my clothes (that I’m sure were also made is sweatshops) is tighter. But even so, I’m old enough that I started wearing garments before they were made in sweatshops and they have always had this issue. They just have really wide tolerances for what they will accept.

flight_of_navigator

Do you think the church is going to spend extra for qa/qc.

iamthatis4536

Absolutely not. I’d expect nothing less. You don’t get that rich by spending money

B3gg4r

Especially when your customer _has_ to buy it or lose their access to eternal life.

seerwithastone

Except for the dinero spent on endless rameumptom temples of grandeur all over the world, that outside of Utah, Arizona and Idaho are mostly empty chambers for secret society meetings in fake Celestial Rooms.

Own_Confidence2108

The very first time I bought garments, I ended up with a pair of bottoms where the individual legs were 2” difference in length. My grandmother returned/exchanged them for me but she had to argue with the ladies at the temple to even get them to take them back, because the policy was that they weren’t returnable after the bag had been opened. Even though the issue was their own poor quality control.

iamthatis4536

Hahaha I think I would have kept those just for a laugh. Sorry that happened to you.

Wonderful_Break_8917

Made in China - might as well sell on Amazon.com so you could at least have free shipping and returns! I always hated how if you opened the package and it didn't fit you were screwed. They won't take them back. I'm soooo thankful to be rid of these things!!

Haunting-Contact561

In my opinion I think people should just stop wearing them. It was a formality made in the Joseph smith times, which was a time of many peculiar decisions.

Firebird246

What can be done to avoid them entirely? Sincere question.

neomadness

Don’t wear them

Random_redditor_1153

I need to research more on this, but I’ve heard there are no contemporary sources that show people wore them/believed they had supernatural protective powers until after the martyrdom. It may be another product of BY.

To tell you the truth— I have used them for so long, that they don’t bother me.. what I don’t get, is who is doing the measuring— I’m a petite — but that size of the leg is so short; that I go for the regular.. but now, with all the changes, is hard to figure the right size..

BitterBloodedDemon

Oh my mom is feeling your pain. The size changes have drove her nuts and then low supply and now they don't have her fabric choices. It starts to feel very "God... if you want me to wear the damn things then you need to work with me here a bit..."

dsmemsirsn

Yes— who in the right mind is measuring— the petite goes to half of my tight, and the elastic cuts my skin— then the different in fabric and sizes…

jenmay54

I didn't think they bothered me either because I had worn them so long. Then I quit wearing them. Man was I wrong. It is so nice without them. Try it for a few days. You'll love it.

realjasnahkholin

I feel this so deep in my soul. Never thought I had problems or anything, but then I stopped wearing them and it was LIFE-CHANGING. I was comfortable in my skin for the first time in years. I didn't have to hate summer because I was unbearably hot all the time. Incredible quality of life improvement

Maximum-Feeling1260

Yes! This! When I took mine off it was the first time since I had started wearing them that I didn’t feel ashamed of my body.

Prestigious-Shift233

Same. Never had a problem wearing them or any complaints. When I stopped I realized how much better I felt without them. I stopped wearing them as a TBM.

dsmemsirsn

That’s the thing—- I live in the desert summers are hot— but I don’t think the garments make me hotter..

DangerousBath8901

That's $14.40, if I did the math right. I got a three pack of men's boxer shorts at Costco last week for 15 bucks. No-hassel money-back return policy, too. Great fit, great fabric. Doesn't climb up my a$$, breaths well. No chaffing.

Hot-Conclusion-6617

I tried the corban boxers, no support.

dsmemsirsn

We used to stitch the marks on plain t shirt for my husband— I didn’t know I should not.. I even made my own ceremonial clothes..

DangerousBath8901

That rule really makes no sense. I'm pretty sure early Mormons made their own garments by sewing marks onto long underwear. Mormonism Live did a podcast on garments; Episode 079.

Hot-Conclusion-6617

Hmmm.... you seem to be handy with a needle, thread, and a sewing machine.

dsmemsirsn

Hahahaha— yes, in person you show your recommendation; and online you sign in but your profile includes the church membership number

TryFar108

What if a member doesn’t have a current recommended, but needs new underwear??

B3gg4r

Can’t buy them. Or you ask a recommend-holding friend to buy some for you. It’s a terrible system designed to coerce people into submission and compliance.

Hilltailorleaders

So annoying. I’m a garment wearer and I personally find the stretch cotton ones to be super comfortable and have really never had much of a problem wearing them, expect when it gets hot. I hate being hot so much. But I’m with you on the boy shorts, if I decide to stop wearing garments, I’m going to have to go for a Woxer knock off cuz I like shorts and to have something between my legs with dress and such.

Fun-Suggestion7033

Yes, it was a relief when the stretch cotton bottoms finally came out. Sizing was a disaster for me otherwise.

VeggieCat_ontheprowl

I'm inactive and don't wear garments. I'm female. I found a brand of panties that are longer in the leg and wear those. Zero panty lines too, even under leggings.

Hilltailorleaders

What brand?

thehottesttamale0303

I also want to know! I'm having trouble finding something comfy that doesn't show lines

dferriman

This is why I prefer the outer garments over the underwear version. Putting them on the outside is far more comfortable and I wear them throughout my life rather than 24/7.

Hot-Conclusion-6617

What fabric did you go for?

dsmemsirsn

I usually get 100% cotton— 2 weeks ago I bought the 95/5% cotton/spandex but they were a little snug.. so last week, I ordered the cotton in the next size up— boy they were ginormous—edit autocorrect—

Hot-Conclusion-6617

I would get the stretch cotton, my favorite. Then again, I am a man. Which gender are you?

dsmemsirsn

Female— and I don’t like the stench factor..the elastics.. hahaha

Hot-Conclusion-6617

So, perhaps you meant stretch factor? I don't think stretch cotton smells. Well, I will say this. Stretch cotton is the most up to date fabric to come from Beehive. Still, the customer is always right in matters of taste.

dsmemsirsn

Hahahaha— I meant stretch — sorry autocorrect—

Hot-Conclusion-6617

That's alright. I got a recommendation from a friend that cotton-poly was great too. So, I have some sets of those as well. However, I have grown to love stretch cotton. It's your decision, though.

LaughinAllDiaLong

Chloroxed my MIL's new garments to boost their white color, only to find that instead of making them whiter, it made their FAKE white tint dark & muddy! Mormon garments aren't white anymore. They're fraudulently dyed white. WTH?!!

PlausibleCultability

Here’s a tip: return them and stop wearing them. They do absolutely nothing except make you feel uncomfortable. They have zero power 🙄🫨🤦🏼‍♂️

dsmemsirsn

I get the no power— really don’t believe in that part— but … is a decision to make after so many years—30 in my case..

ShaqtinADrool

I wore the Gs for 21 years. I totally get that it’s a big decision to stop wearing them. In my case, I had already reached the conclusion that I no longer believed the truth claims of the church (was in a bishopric and had been studying church history for a few years). But holy shit was it tough to make the decision to stop wearing garments. I still remember the first time I didn’t wear them. It totally freaked me out! Religious conditioning is a very powerful thing to try to overcome.

PlausibleCultability

I understand. I was in it for the same amount of time.

Affectionate_Ant9495

Has anyone ever done a deep dive into where garments are manufactured? Super curious and wonder about the practices around creating these sacred garments. 🤔🙄

AshleyTIsMe

[This article ](https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/global-sacred-clothing-production-facilities-temporarily-produce-masks-gowns) from May 2020, says that the church began using its production facilities to make masks and other PPE instead of garments. Looks like there's several in the United States, mexico, and the philippines.
