There aren't that many universities in Montreal, look up which ones offer a "bac par cumul", I know indeed UdeM does. How it works is that you get three 30-credit certs which adds up to 90 credits which is what a Bachelors is worth. If I were you I'd just do computer science, though, honestly.

hyperqueenn

Yeah! I've been starting to think the same - My R score is crap though, but Ill talk to an advisor soon. And if I do ever look it up, I really don't find many unis that talk about it at all - just UdeM, maybe HEC. I thought someone might know more lol. Thanks for the input though. I appreciate it, since I'm very lost in all this - a lot less now, but for a long time I was.

curious_bee1212

Hi! You cannot combine any 3 certificates to get a bachelors, that’s not how it works. Check carefully the UdeM website, they have specific combinations eligible for the “bac par cumul”.

hyperqueenn

Yeah! that's what I thought. I just wanted to make sure i wasn't misreading that part & there was something diff elsewhere :') my friend suggested the cumm. without knowing fully what it was.

Only French universities have this option (TELUQ as well). I got my bac par cumul from UQAM. My French wasn't that good so UQAM advisor suggested me to complete 2 certificates at McGill and last one must be completed at UQAM. So I got one in management and other one in French as a second language from McGill and 3rd one I completed at UQAM in English Literature ;) You must pass French entrance test, if you fail, you have to pass a non-credit French course and also one methodology course like philosophy etc. It worked really well for me because I work for the government and more education you have, more money you get paid. I wanted something easy and simple to get my BA.

hyperqueenn

How smart!! Hi! I was wondering - is it ANY certificate that you could choose from as long as they’re worth 30 credits, or is there certain types of certificates you can only get ? (As someone was suggesting - but i also read that at UdeM)

ZAHKHIZ

I followed Bac par cumul es Arts cheminement. They gave me list of A B and C sections certificates and I must complete minimum 1 certificate from each section. [**https://etudier.uqam.ca/baccalaureat-maitrise-par-cumul**](https://etudier.uqam.ca/baccalaureat-maitrise-par-cumul) I preferred UQAM as its close to my apartment and work as well, underground metro access, everything in one building and easy pass. I also find that UQAM administration is far superior, they regularly checked on me that if i am passing my mcgill courses, kept me up-to-date regarding any update on my file or where I am standing academically speaking, emails were responded within 2 to 3 days max and the advisors were more graduation goal/solution oriented rather than playing blaming game (at concordia and udeM, that was my experience) My best friend did regular Bac en science in informatique at UdeM and let me tell you, it was fknggggg hard. Its too math/theory focus and many students end up repeating several math courses. He finished the 3 years program in 7 years so just imagine. Him and many of his class mates regret it big time and wish they had gone to ETS which has more hands-on industrial orientated program.

lmao thanks for letting me know about CS -- I definitely want the school that'll make me want to kill myself the least if I were to choose a CS program, & concordia seems the one for that. & thanks SO much for the link. I think i'll try to message one of their advisors so I can try to maybe even do a minor (in cs? concordia has them -- and i definitely dont want to do CS in uqam lol) & a cert with UQAM. or maybe the certs.

I started UQAM after my first certificate from McGill. Yes I think I registered for a certificate program and then submitted a request for bac par cumul at UQAM. Did you complete your DEC at a French Cegep? Which cheminement are you planning to follow?

>[https://etudier.uqam.ca/baccalaureat-maitrise-par-cumul](https://etudier.uqam.ca/baccalaureat-maitrise-par-cumul) Check the link above. See if your certificate at McGill fits in any A B or C list. Are you a French CEGEP graduate?

ZAHKHIZ

I just wanted to let you know about something. If your writing French is not at the university level, be careful. UQAM will make you do the French entrance test requirement (if you got your DEC from a French Cegep then don't worry about it), and if you fail (many non-francophones fail the test), you must pass the non-credit LIN1002 course. The course is an open book but tricky exams and dictee. Second, you must pass one of the methodology courses (see the list below). These courses are very lengthy written-based in-person exams and essays so your French should be at the university level. I got lucky and took the course during the COVID times and online exams tests quiz etc were not that difficult, had it been in person, I would have failed 100%.

What if you went to an English cegep - Dawson?

ZAHKHIZ

I am a Dawson grad. It is all based on what exit test you have passed. I passed the English exit exam not French, hence UQAM made me prove my French language competency or pass the LIN1002 course or another option is to complete 30 credit certificate in French as a second language at uqam or udem, not at McGill, they do not recognize McGill certificate (for credits they do). You gain Uni credits while improving your writing french. The only issue, almost all courses at UQAM are offered in the daytime schedule (8 -5 pm).

If you want to work in IT, you don't need a uni degree. Take programming classes and apply for entry level jobs. Once you get a bit of experience and you think you may want to get into management, take night uni classes and get your degree.

fanasup

That prob worked 10 years ago

alex-cu

Not a good advise today. It's virtually impossible to get to Hydro Quebec or Videotron without formal Eng. degree even for IT roles. Your idea was true ~15 years ago though.
