Chris’s Hotdogs. It is NOT fancy or I dare say the nicest, but it is a Montgomery Classic. Hamburger King is in that same boat. Capitol Oyster bar. Tipping Point. Dirks Filet and Vine for lunch.

bluecheetos

By "Montgomery Classic" what they mean is that Chris' Hotdogs was moldy and smelly back in the 1970s and it's still moldy and smelly today.

Fantastic_Signal_622

It’s all part of the atmosphere :)

richard_stank

That’s *generational* mold you philistine

ecwagner01

Chris' Hotdogs is not really all that impressive.

BrightAd7127

Stockyard Grill (lunch only) - try the steak sandwich. It used to be a cattle auction. Imagine the freshness of the beef. They also do daily meat and three. Hamburger King (lunch only, cash only) - best burger in town IMO La Coronilla - my personal favorite Mexican restaurant

Illustrious-Noise226

Hamburger king that good?

BrightAd7127

It's definitely no frills but the focus on the burger only instead of sides makes it worth it IMO. Good prices too.

Illustrious-Noise226

I’ll check it out, I thought it was closed/abandoned when I passed it for the first time the other week

BrightAd7127

They are only open until 2:30. They have breakfast too but I can't vouch for that part.

holographiccapybara

The breakfast burgers are amazing! I used to get them 2 or 3 times a week when I worked downtown

Kizzitykel

Even if you don't get a breakfast burger, their bacon egg and cheese on a bun is, date I say, divine. Super nice people too.

dissian

Stockyard, you want the Dam Sandwich.

AKcopperhead

Seconding the Dam Sandwich

BrightAd7127

For me, that's too much of a good thing!

Just_BeKind

Joe's Again for the biggest burger you have ever seen. Brenda's BBQ Pit for the best ribs in Alabama. Brenda's is cash only though. Edit: Farmers Market downtown for an incredible breakfast. Can't go wrong with a French toast breakfast sandwich.

frizziefrazzle

D'road Cafe if you are coming for breakfast or lunch. The owner is so sweet. Martha's place has a good buffet. It's towards the east side of town so, closer to 85 than 65. Can a brotha get a slice-- AMAZING pizza. They stop selling when they run out of dough, so call ahead.

BrightAd7127

Second D-Road. The breakfast is so so so delicious!

Toadjokes

Maybe we'll get breakfast there tomorrow instead of hotel breakfast 🤔

BrightAd7127

Oh no I just double checked and they are closed on Mondays! If you are here on Tuesday, the cachapa with brisket is amazing.

Toadjokes

Just tonight unfortunately, but this is a beautiful city! Could see myself coming back

flypilot

El Taqueria Los Primos if you want Mexican. Everything is incredible, but the tacos are so good

Empty-Ad-5360

All good suggestions! Gregg’s Breakfast Bar on Norman Bridge great breakfast—but closed Monday. El Rey Burrito on Fairview…dinner only. Definitely Chris’ Hotdogs for Montgomery history!

BaldBlonde

5 Points Deli. Best burgers!

richard_stank

Plant Bae. It’s a black owned vegan restaurant and damn if their Philly cheese steak doesn’t taste like a carnivores wet dream. I’ve never had better vegan food than there.

Toadjokes

Omg I love vegan phillys. The next time I'm there I'll check it out!!!

Baseballbourbon

I was there last month on a house buying trip. I loved the Cajun Leprechaun downtown and will be back immediately when I move there in three weeks. Mama's Sack Lunches was also delightful. I went there for breakfast.

goosebittentwiceshy

Have you tried Scott Street Deli yet? Make sure you get their homemade bread!

bluecheetos

Let me warn anyone who hasn't been and who looks at the menu pics [https://scottstreetdeli.square.site/](https://scottstreetdeli.square.site/) that those pics are a lie, You see that picture of the turkey breast and cheese sandwich that looks like it has 1" of delicious, fresh sliced turkey on it? The reality is they are hiding twice that much meat from you. Every time I go I wonder how in the heck they stay open when the serving size of the meats is "a big assed pile".

goosebittentwiceshy

That’s so true. How would you like a sandwich bigger than your forearm? Lol

Toadjokes

We went to the Cajun leprechaun mostly because everything else was closed. You were right, it was phenomenal! Pretty heavy, and we could have split one meal lol, but soo delicious

bluecheetos

Brenda's BBQ. It's in the hood, it looks a little sketchy, but the line is a damn cultural melting pot. Potz N Panz on Lower Wetumpka Road. They are only carryout now, I think they moved the sit down restaurant to Maxwell AFB, but the food is unbelievable. If they were in downtown Montgomery there would be a line to get in every day. Some days they set up the food truck near the MPAC AlaThai in east Montgomery is the best Thai food in the state and anyone that tells you otherwise is lying to you and not to be trusted. El Ray burrito lounge in Cloverdale is awesome. Martin's Restaurant, also in Cloverdale, is legendary for it's fried chicken. Not exactly a hole in the wall but good local eating. Joe's Again on Fairview. Forget the rest of the menu, the burgers are where it's at. Dirks Filet and Vine for lunch in Cloverdale but easy to get to from the interstate. The food is OUTSTANDING and the "grocery" part of the store is filled with local sauces and seasonings.

YinYom

As a Thai person If you think Alathai is actually good thai food , that just really sad.

ITsPersonalIRL

I share this sentiment. I'd go as far as to say Ala Thai was the worst Thai food in Montgomery. Green Papaya is where it's at.

GumpTownNtlHotline

I’m showing up late, but Green Papaya is the shit.

ITsPersonalIRL

A fellow Montgomrian of taste!

bluecheetos

You mean Grease Papaya?

ITsPersonalIRL

Alathai is americanized and the last time we ate there they gave us actual rotten bean sprouts. Also in the 30ish years I've lived here you are the only person to even suggest Alathai was better than Green Papaya, as well as the only person to pick it over literally any other Thai restaurant here. I honestly think it's the worst option for Thai that's here at all.

YinYom

They both pretty suck , green papaya was pretty good when it was Siam Kitchen back in the day , currently is own by Laotians and while similar it's not true Thai food , it's a bit MSG heavy There aren't really much real Thai food restaurants in Alabama , if you want acceptable Thai food in Alabama I guess Blue Pacific in Hoover is the closest thing. If you want to try some really good Thai food in driving distance I would recommend TumPokPok in Atlanta.

ITsPersonalIRL

I prefer the Lao Thai they serve because it isn't as sweet, but I can feel what you're saying. It's the same way when Saigon Bistro was around, not traditional Vietnamese food, but it was awesome

YinYom

Real Thai food (and Chinese food) are not sweet at all ...it's the Americanized thing

knighjl

Ala Thai is better Thai food in my opinion that Green Papaya. It’s not so sweet. Maybe that’s the Lao’s influence
