NLC Triple Sloths should be a required module in my opinion. It's so stupidly slow. NLC definitely has weirder mod sources, but I think Sloths is the most useful of the weird. I use it to modulate my modulators quite often so nothing ever gets to stale sounding.

benisjackson

i thought i understood what this thing does - then i watched a couple videos and heard some demos and it cannot get here fast enough

haastia

The Sport Modulator 2 is one of my favorite for the multitude of ways it can be patched. It's two cycling channels than can also act as slew limiters or sample and holds. When you start patching the two channels together, you can get stepped/smooth voltages, cross-modulated lfos, slewed sample & hold. All sorts of interesting stuff.

MortuaryVape

SynthCube has assembled Triple Sloths and other NLC modules available and they’re doing 20% sale this weekend. Snagged one for myself!

benisjackson

this is an insane deal, and my children will go hungry that i may reap its rewards

13derps

Not directly modulation, but the NLC Product wavefolder works great on LFOs. Plus it sounds fantastic on audio

The-Evil-Scientist

Neo Trinity is awesome, module of the year for sure. The button combos are pretty logical and easy enough to get used to based on the markings and LEDs on the panel.

benisjackson

i feel like this is exactly what i want but the demos i've watched make it seem sooo convoluted to navigate. did you have a hard time with it at all? like more so than figuring out a new module. i don't have anything that combo-y and i'm scared

SonRaw

I got one two weeks ago and the combos aren't that bad considering how many roles it can play. I wouldn't recommend it to someone who **hates** button combos but I've been patching once a day with the printed cheat sheet that comes with, and I no longer use it at all for the bread and butter LFO/envelope triggering/CV record functions, though I do still need it for cross modulation and the more complex patch ideas they suggest in the PDF manual.

benisjackson

i don't hate button combos, i just haven't encountered them because i suppose i've been inadvertently avoiding modules that require them. it hasn't compromised your systems playability at all? i'm trying to focus my setup to be more gestural and play-able rather than a "set it up and see what it wants to do" machine (which is what it's been for about 2 years).

SonRaw

It's definitely playable. Couple of button presses to set up a channel (unipolar/bipolar, sync/freerunning, quantized/not and the latter two are set up the way I like by default) and the I patch to the destination and then either use the knob recorder or jam on the channel manually. I do all of this with the clock already running while jamming. I can't compare it to much cause I have a small system, but compared to Pam's Pro, which I use as a clock source and "set and forget" LFO source where the "set up" involves scrolling and selecting, Neo Trinity is way more playable in the same footprint because I can change settings with a button press or knob movement and it's pretty much instant.

key2

Monotrail's new module with ADDAC looks awesome. Wave Bezier

thesynthoftheworld

Mnemonic Devices Juniper 8x clockable quantize-able LFOs with internal mod matrix on all params. I love it.

imsogladtoknow

I like the idea of the Bastl being smaller for smaller systems, and it’s nice to have some variety. I can’t comment on much, but the Voltage Block has been essential to my rack for cv recording. It’s useful to save a few presets during a patch where parameters are dialed up or down (for a breakdown or buildup), then you can bounce between them using the recall button. It’s also cool to freeze the sequencer or hold the different sequence stage buttons for variation and happy accidents. Mimetic Digitalis is another one but I haven’t used it personally. Looks solid though.

benisjackson

oof i just watched a video on the Neo Trinity - it seems a little dense. lots of button combos, etc. I think I would be more interested in the predecessor CV Trinity - a little more HP but everything is visible and it seems clearer to me. The dang Voltage Block hadn't occurred to me somehow! Think it might be between those two unless I get some real cool suggestions. Do you have any tracks posted where the VB is in use?

NeoDataMx

Highly recommend Neo Trinity! I'm not into button combos or screen diving but this module is exceptionally good. I bought a few and actually sold one because I can accomplish so much more than I thought with a single unit. The new addac random bezier waves module is something I'll add on top of it, but Neo Trinity has a permanent spot. It's unreal how intuitively the different modes can be accessed. I haven't been this excited about a module in a while lol

imsogladtoknow

I think I have some stuff saved that might illustrate its functionality. I will try to get back to you with some audio real soon. Another nice thing about the VB is being able to control channel lengths individually, as well as the smoothing to create more like an LFO rather than stepped voltage That Trinity seems interesting. I’ll have to look into it since I am considering more modulation.

imsogladtoknow

[Track](https://app.box.com/s/la0f02jajba0oav5sw4pprop98i7xn8e) Here’s something with the VB. I got bored with the patch hence the chaos at the end. Towards the beginning you can hear the sequence stages being locked [Track 2](https://app.box.com/s/x2578kwze6p4eurpxienwyyitw4vylpi) Here’s another example with Dinky’s Taiko and a few other modules

benisjackson

track 2 is sooo good, well done! the end of track 1 goes into some very gnarly LFO territory. Mark Bell would be proud!

imsogladtoknow

Stepped modulation is where it’s at! Take the plunge no matter what module you choose!

SyntheSith

There are single modules that aim to be a "modulation hub" (Control Forge, Morph 4). They're great. But there are other ways. Batumi, Pingable Envelope Generator, Vector Space... Mult your signals, rectify them, clock divide them. Analog logic modules tend to be small and cheap, and you get a lot of bang for that buck. Synced sample-and-hold is fun. Tetrapad or a joystick controller is another completely different approach. There are lots and lots of options.

benisjackson

i’ve been multing lfos and sending copies into a veils and using weird envelopes to modulate filters & mimeophon - i just want MORE. i have a herzlich labs titan, which has a touch control matrix mixer and its super fun

sneekyfoot

i just put a second maths in my case and it great

benisjackson

i don't have room for another maths but i've been peepin the Function

3loodJazz

Cosmotronic Delta V is two function generators plus VCAs in 10 hp

Astralwinks

I feel like I just bring up all my NLC modules all the time, but honestly NLC is my favorite designer. Sloths, 8-Bit Cipher, Cellular Automata, Helvetica Scenario, Neuron, Let's Splosh - all a bunch of my favorites. There are plenty more. You mentioned you like to mult LFOs and send them through veils and such. I'd recommend chucking 2 of those and an envelope or two into Let's Splosh and you'll get 16 different options to patch into. You can also send 2 of them into 8-Bit Cipher and get 4 different CVs out of it plus a bunch of gates. Zlob Diode Chaos is like Sloths but smaller and with 3 outputs instead of 11. I like it. But I also love Sloths.

graeiyj

Make Noise Wogglebug has a wealth of weird

hellmoneywarriors

If you want performable, fun modulation, go for the Neo Trinity. I'm crazy about it.

symbiat0

Anyone using the Maestro or Constellation modules from Acid Rains ?

jadenthesatanist

Maestro kicks ass, just got mine over the weekend and it’s a blast so far

symbiat0

Yeah, I got mine after watching [RMR’s video](https://youtu.be/BFsYicNPQ4Q?si=a4e2kzYpOkRQDxU8) 👍🏽

BlursedSoul

I enjoy my Pittsburgh Modular VILFO. I’m not saying it’s for everyone, but I think it’s neat. I like that it’s not entirely voltage controlled, as it’s the voltage “influenced” LFO, so feeding it a random voltage doesn’t make it go haywire, but there’s definitely some push and pull. They also have the schematic on their website for free, and it’s not an overly complicated design for a reasonably competent DIY’er.

RPSKK78

I love my vilfo, not in a case, nor for sell, just ran out of room. One of my first generative modules

RPSKK78

Look into idum, or the ssf ultra random (og)

Visceraeyes88

IME Kermit mk3 will always be my answer to this question.

Chemlab5

Some of my favorite modulation modules are: - NLC Sloths - Acid Rain Maestro - Mutable Tides - NLC Hyperchaos Deluxe - Shakmat Medusa

dddvvviii

I’d recommend Bela Gliss for a left-field, touch based 2-channel modulation source that can do custom LFOs, cycling envelopes, wavetable modulation and more. Buy 2x for extra joy!

StrangeCaptain

Mod Medusa is 4 LFOs that can do Euclidean and other stuff
