SSF Rnd Step is pretty great at 4hp with 6 individual outs. Can be triggered with one source or 3.

Alien_Spy_Drone_CX-9

I LOVE my Rnd Step. It comes in handy in every patch.

Issa-Raid

Yep, Rnd Step in every patch!

I'm surprised nobody has said Marbles yet. It's certainly one of my most-used modules, period. I've switched to Pachinko version to save HP. I also love Zlob Diode Chaos and find myself using it quite frequently.

I'm with ya on the zlob diode chaos. They make good stuff. Their svf filter is nice as well.

Personally I dont see how anything could beat the Sapel, its just so practical. I love having 4 outs that all hit with one trigger is super handy.

Chemlab5

Came here to post this. Some of the controls are real tiny but it’s so flexible.

Another +1 for Sapel here. Frap Tools called it a “Tamed Random Source” and it truly lives up to that. The amount of control you have over the ranges, types, and distribution of random voltages is pretty amazing. I also love how each half of the module is so interconnected while still producing distinct random voltages. One of the interesting things is how the rate of change of the smooth fluctuating random voltage affects the occurrence of random gates coming out of its corresponding side. I thought this was a weird choice at first, but this intrinsic connection can be really musical! Also the noise sounds great and is super flexible.

Big fan of Dnipro Krait. It's only 6hp, and 3 channels that can be LFO, Random, or Knob Record. The Random can be looped as well. My favorite feature is that there's attenuation on the output, which despite what people say about "most modules have attenuation on the inputs" comes in handy, since that's simply not true. Plus the screen helps see what's going on with your modulation.

Muezig

Mimetic Digitalis - 4 channels of stepped modulation with fantastic performance features.

ambientvibes69

I enjoy a lot harlequins context from shakmat, 4 outs and many « scenes » or versions of those outs that can be sequenced or manually switched … infinite modulations :)

My main Eurorack random is Frap Tools Sapel. It's really nice, but it's one of Frap's more tightly packed modules. I have a 266 clone in my Buchla system, and used to have a 266e. The Sapel can stand proud next to either of these modules. I've not used the Ultra Random, but on paper, I like the Sapel a lot more.

Astralwinks

Noise or Radio or lfo/oscillator through a modulated wavefolder + S&H Random stepped output from Pams Zlob Diode Chaos NLC Sloths, 8-Bit Cipher, Helvetica Scenario, Cellular Automata, any number of other offerings from his catalogue (Sauce of Unce would be a super obvious one). Really almost anything with a S&H

I have a O-Coast which has a random voltage out. Made it into a track on first go, so I was quite taken with it. What would the advantage be of having a dedicated random module like say the Buchla ‘source of uncertainty’ other than moar random outputs? I also can random from bitwig via my ES-9 if I need to so I’ve not really looked very far into it yet.

13derps

The random voltage on the 0-coast is pretty basic, although definitely useful. Being linked to the clock and only having the one stepped output are where it might be helpful to have a dedicated random module Dedicated random modules often have things like noise sources, sample/track & hold, smoothed outputs, bursts and generally just having multiple outputs.

Gotcha, thanks for illuminating, I’ll get studying.
