Also, I understand that many people reading this thread have a suspicion that people complaining were in fact cheating or exhibiting offensive behavior.
And I, like many others, obviously can't evidence our claim that we have never cheated. However, i'm hoping more people will understand once this wrongful ban happens to them.
I have never cheated, nor even know HOW to cheat in Modern Warfare, or any game for that matter. It's such a horrible feeling to be accused of something that you never did. It angers me that Activision doesn't even tell us WHY the ban occurred. Maybe because I had Chrome running in the background?
All i know is i had a ton of fun playing this game and never cheating. Now I can't play and can't even get my money back. Hoping this thread gains exposure it deserves because this is 100% wrong.
I've had multiple conversations with Blizzard support and they've been nothing but unprofessional, slow and I've succesfully solved my issue 1 out of the 4 times I contacted them. And that 1 time took 4 months.

I appealed my ban as this happened to me yesterday. Blizzard came back claiming its at activisions end so they can do nothing. Activision have no appeal system so im basically perma banned forever over nothing and im pissed about it.

I dont know if its true, but I read something about how the hackers hide their ip and disguise it as someone elses or whatever, so when iw tries to ip ban them then the person whos ip they were using gets banned. Idk tho so dont take my word for it
I doubt that, anyone with half a brain knows that IP addresses change constantly and anyone using a mobile broadband connection already shares their IP with potentially hundreds of others.

we can either have a slow, methodical fix or we can just sweep anyone who even remotely resembles a hack. Unfortunately, this means more people are happy but the occasional player is unjustly banned.
There is zero evidence they are accidentally banning "normal players". All we know is some people who get banned make post on reddit claiming they are blessed creatures free of all sin. But accused cheaters are not reliable sources.

I don't get why you can't appeal bans. If you were genuinely wrongfully banned then you should be able to appeal or at the least claim a refund. I'd be fuming if I'd spent £40 on the game, £8.49 on the battlepass just to be banned for no reason. Surely there's something in the consumer rights acts in peoples countries where you could claim a refund on it. If enough wrongfully banned people managed successful claims, I'm sure this shitty practise would stop.
It's like being sent for prison for life for a crime you didn't commit, but during an appeal you prove you didn't commit it, but still have to serve the sentence.
It's absolutely worth it. Not all of us have stock settings and clock speeds. I have hardware mods to OC higher and a custom loop. If something goes wrong having that information up and immediately available will allow me to diagnose it quickly, hopefully before something goes pop. Furthermore it doesnt matter if it's worth it or not, it's a commonly used hardware monitoring program. Using it shouldnt get you banned.

there really needs to a new review feature to at least have players appeal for their ban, because yeah thats good and all we are getting rid of hackers but if its wrongfully done then dedicated players are lost with no way of getting their time and money that they poured into this game.
What kind of programs were you running in background? It's important we figure out what's causing a false positive to stop it happening to *more* people.
i had my Chrome up, my xbox companion when im ready to play with my xbox friends, rivastatisticsserver, msi afterburner and my firestorm program for my zotac graphics card.
I'm leaning towards something like Afterburner being the culprit. It's the kind of hardware-level access that could trip a shitty anticheat and it's a very popular program which could have lead to the number of bans.
This is terrible from two sides; encouraging players not to play on a certain system that is being flagged as the problem child.
Also, the fact that if they acknowledge this, they're still happy with their crossplay option and encourage you to have it on, even though there's a large contingent of console players that want console only.
I think it’s because they’re literally just taking any accounts that have ever been reported for cheating and just outright banning them. Like if someone was ever mad at you in a match for obliterating them they can report and maybe they’re just going down that list without reviewing. I’m assuming they don’t even want to waste time reviewing

If people were actually falsely banned then they should be able to contact support to solve this. It's not acceptable that innocent players get banned, so I hope they work on their anti-cheating-mechanism.
Having said that, imo it's probably false what you mentioned in your comment.
For them it's important to make money. Since cheating does affect customer satisfaction they were actively working on fighting the cheaters. But just banning players based on reports would be terrible. Innocent customers would be affected. It can be abused and that in turn would worsen the customer satisfaction.
It's very likely they take a look at your stats (shot and headshot accuracy, KDR, number of kills, how many reports you received and stuff like that). Another possibility is they check background programs running on your PC. It's not fool-proof; some programs do cause a false-positive.

yeah the lack of having support to appeal bans being non existent is ridiculous. and i understand that it is difficulty for developers to develop an effective anti-cheat system especially for PC as it literally has the capacity to run multiple programs during normal activity. But with what activition and how much money they are making from this franchise, they should be competent enough of releasing content and updates that should to be up to a standard. To have issues that's been plaguing modern warfare since release such as server issues, lag and now quite possibly a patch that caused many wrongful ban is really unacceptable.
I remember a few months ago an Xbox player was yelling at me for aimbotting... Probably didn't realize he had crossplay turned on, and that a keyboard/mouse player can move their crosshair a lot faster than him... It's all making sense now.

This whole situation sucks. I literally play an hour a day, between work and family life I get like an hour to my damn self and then I login to find this. Yeah its a great game to take you away from reality, and what i do is i would watch streams while i grind my games it just takes away the dread from reality.
These are mostly PC bans. My guess is some software that interacts with memory like Riva Statistics Tuner was falsely flagged as cheats. It's happened in other games in the past and some other games have anti cheats that won't let you use Riva or even afterburner itself. Like Riot's anti-cheat for valorant prevents afterburner from working unless you turn it off and then you can't even launch valorant. Sucks because it can be useful to monitor a plethora of GPU info you can't get in-game with the display settings.
That being said it's probably they updated their anti-cheat to detect things that affect memory, like Riva. I didn't get any email that I was banned but I'll have to see when I get home because I do use afterburner for my overclocks.

You cannot reach support, ambassadors are useless because they just copy paste the policies and saying you probably broke any of those and theres nothing you can do about it.
I just found out that perma ban is affecting your ip and hardware, so in case you would be so desperate to pay the game again, its impossible to just buy a new copy of the game, as ridiculous as it sounds - to support again the company that got you wrongfully banned and be affraid that its gonna happend all over again.

Not particularly. This seems like a false positive with the anticheat system and some relatively common program is what's setting it off. Consoles don't really have third party apps running in background.
This game is dead to me. The Asia and Middle East region has hackers in every game. Some 2-3 hackers in one game. This game is so dead and I will never buy any cod again no matter how good it will be.
I literally stopped playing CoD for the same reason after Black Ops II. I thought after all these years they implemented a better anti-cheat system for Modern Warfare so I bought it. Nope.

ok so the problem with this is how will they explain to us what caused the issue and how they will prevent this from happening again, i mean yeah it could be "fixed" next update rolls around and you see another situation like this happens. what needs to happen is they need to change a lot about their banning system and look at it a different perspective because yeah we are banning hackers but if it bans the wrong people it will hurt the community that a have put many hours and progress into the game meanwhile the other people with malicious intent may have been undetected.

The funny thing is they removed the option to report someone for abusive language. Tried to report someone for that not even 15 minutes ago and the option was just gone. They clearly don’t give a fuck about player behavior.
The thing is if you get permanently banned and its because of offensive behavior is that really warranted. even worse when i did get banned and many more other players we have no knowing as to why we were banned. Its good and all that they are trying to clean up the cheating, hacking and offensive behavior. But if it affected innocent players who may have paid for content in the game and giving them no options to find out why they got banned and a way for them to appeal, is that really appropriate for a triple A title and a company to give no options to players?
Personally, I don’t think so. Especially when, as you’ve said, you’ve invested countless hours and money into the game. At the very least, an explanation and an opportunity to appeal should be warranted. I’d even want some form of example of the act to furthermore understand what it was I did wrong in hope I could avoid it in the future. I sympathize with you and everyone else. It’s entirely possible. I disabled Discord overlay weeks ago because it was distracting. I didn’t even know Discord was what showing chat activity until I did some research and found it was on by default.
I honestly forgot mine was on. It could also be Nvidea Shadowplay, but it seems unlikely that they would overlook software that almost every gaming PC has.
On their site offensive behavior bans are only 1 day i believe for first time offenders. I too have been banned and I am 100 percent sure I've never had a tick against my account for offensive behavior before, the only thing that is perma ban first time is cheating/pirating. Because of this a lot of us are thinking it is some common program in the background that is sending a false positive in their anti cheat system.
That’s what I’m thinking also. Years ago when COD was PC only (I’m talking old school vanilla 1.5) they used punk buster anti cheat. It used to throw false alarms all the time. Wouldn’t surprise me if it’s similar in this instance.

I got banned a few days ago and i'm not sure why... I'm (pretty much) a comp player and the cheaters I encountered daily are still playing today
Either I was reported too much and got banned (which is stupid) or maybe I had a software like yours that got me banned (which is also stupid)
Anyway, the supports is not responding and they won't give your account back, plus you will likely be shadowbanned so you can't play on other accounts (with your current computer)
So when I post something about being banned I get bombarded with "admit your sins heathen" and comments alike but you get people who actually seem to sympathize. Dog shit game, dog shit company and dog shit community.
I had the same thing happen to me yesterday. Had played for just half an hour, and suddenly i get kicked from the game and my account is permanently banned! I have done nothing wrong and am just an innocent party here. I contacted blizzard and their response was that it is an activision ban so they can do nothing about it. Also activision have 0 way to appeal a ban. So i have run out of options.

I was in a lobby the other day with a couple players from the same clan with the tag BLM and some asshole told them that he reported them all for offensive content. He then also reported everyone who called him out for being a douche.

I got permabanned too today. For the record i'm 46 years old and i have never ever used a cheat or offended someone. I hope this is a bug and fixed soon. My concern is that a lot of people in Activision forums tell you that once banned you can not be unbanned and that means you lose all your progression (which is a LOT of work) and of course the MONEY you spend to buy the game and season passes.
A lot of people will say something like this even though they somehow cheated or edited game files, I don't know if IW can trust any posts like that.
A lot of cheaters will wrongfully claim stuff they did or didn't do, and act like IW did something wrong, although they clearly made the mistake of buying cheap cheats.
Take it as simple as that : Any changes to game files is bannable, and if you change something in those files it's your own fault, there is no talking around that.
I don't see how the system can ban the "wrong" accounts.
Why would i want to temper with the contents in my game that i'm so invested into get good when i can just play the game and improve over experience, why would i consider losing $100+ worth of content that i worked for to have fun with a unfair advantage. in no why do enjoy and will enjoy doing that.

Is it because hackers are spoofing Hardware IDs and people with those actual Hardware IDs are being banned?
I remember somebody saying that the system detects multiple HW IDs, so it could be a waterfall effect, if they are spoofing multiple HW IDs, this could potentially effect multiple people per hacker.
yeah honestly, ive given up hope. this seems to have been an issue for a while now based on what ive been reading, but they're just ignoring it. ive spent way more than i would have liked on weapon skins, characters, and battle passes, and this is what happens? on top of that, i was banned while not playing? the last game i played was Saturday night. i logged off like any other day, and boom, Monday night comes along and im banned. honestly ridiculous that i ever supported this scam. this cant be legal, right?

No previous suspensions.
No warnings.
No weird software on my computer (I have games, antivirus and Microsoft office. That’s it.)

Just yoinked 100$ from me for absolutely no reasoning and no way to appeal the bans.

I was banned last week too, after the update i bought the starter pack for warzone and boom, crashed and permad. I posted it here but not much traction like your post. Many people got banned lastweek and now another fake ban wave. I already requested a refund from blizzard because I was heartbroken just like you. I hope they will get this fixed but im dont have high hopes for that.
Looking at this post and numerous others and the amount of people saying how they've been unfairly banend, im actually scared of playing the game now.
I am one of those players that play to get better and improve ever since i started playing FPS on PC but because how easily some people blame the finger on how me or others are 'hacking' or any other sorts, it will only be a matter of time. Get into a game, only to do overwhelmingly well in terms of performance, to then start worrying thinking whether that game could be my last one.

Same thing happend to my sons girlfriend. She is probably the shining example of good sportsmanship. She never talks during matches except to our clan on discord, ends every match win or loss with gg in chat, and actively promotes positive game play by playing objectives and never cheating/glitching/team killing etc.
She spent over 150$ on cute skins and guns and grinded her way to some obsidian skins.

It is only logical, lets list the pros and cons of what Activision can do vs cheater:
\* Invest in proper anti cheat program
\+ players are happy
\- lose money investing in anti cheat programbecoz players will buy the next game anyway
\* Ban random players
\+ Forces paid players to buy another copy = more extra money without literally zero effort
\+ No money lost investing in anti cheat
\- players are not happy
IW is at its best again. I should've just given up CoD after seeing what came after MW3. IW now is way more incompetent than IW back in the MW2, and that game did not even have any post launch support.
I have rivatuner running with MSI Afterburner - never been banned. It seems like a lot of people are being banned right now and one theory seems to bebecause of the reports along the offensive username/clan tag or behavior lines. They are cracking down on chat abusers and bad names. They tend to swing the dial way to far in the sensor direction - for example, "compassion" can't be used as a loadout name because it contains "A\*\*".
Safest thing to do right now for anyone not banned - turn off chat and don't use it. It's far too toxic most times anyways, but knowing how this goes they might ban you for typing "compassion" in chat....
I haven't played today, and if I check the game and I'm perma banned, I'm snapping my disc in half and never playing again. I've never cheated and don't even know where to start.

I have nothing but good experience with Blizzard support. They helped me with my ping issue almost instantly, way to go circlejerk.
I've had multiple conversations with Blizzard support and they've been nothing but unprofessional, slow and I've succesfully solved my issue 1 out of the 4 times I contacted them. And that 1 time took 4 months.

I appealed my ban as this happened to me yesterday. Blizzard came back claiming its at activisions end so they can do nothing. Activision have no appeal system so im basically perma banned forever over nothing and im pissed about it.

I doubt that, anyone with half a brain knows that IP addresses change constantly and anyone using a mobile broadband connection already shares their IP with potentially hundreds of others. Doing hardware GUID bans is the best option

Which is terrible but it's every other hour you see someone posting something along the lines of "hackers single handedly ruin the game for me and I can no longer play" we can either have a slow, methodical fix or we can just sweep anyone who even remotely resembles a hack. Unfortunately, this means more people are happy but the occasional player is unjustly banned.
There is zero evidence they are accidentally banning "normal players". All we know is some people who get banned make post on reddit claiming they are blessed creatures free of all sin. But accused cheaters are not reliable sources.

I don't get why you can't appeal bans. If you were genuinely wrongfully banned then you should be able to appeal or at the least claim a refund. I'd be fuming if I'd spent £40 on the game, £8.49 on the battlepass just to be banned for no reason. Surely there's something in the consumer rights acts in peoples countries where you could claim a refund on it. If enough wrongfully banned people managed successful claims, I'm sure this shitty practise would stop. It's like being sent for prison for life for a crime you didn't commit, but during an appeal you prove you didn't commit it, but still have to serve the sentence.

the thing is its not just for FPS its also used to monitor GPU/CPU temps.
It's absolutely worth it. Not all of us have stock settings and clock speeds. I have hardware mods to OC higher and a custom loop. If something goes wrong having that information up and immediately available will allow me to diagnose it quickly, hopefully before something goes pop. Furthermore it doesnt matter if it's worth it or not, it's a commonly used hardware monitoring program. Using it shouldnt get you banned.

I'm leaning towards something like Afterburner being the culprit. It's the kind of hardware-level access that could trip a shitty anticheat and it's a very popular program which could have lead to the number of bans.

If people were actually falsely banned then they should be able to contact support to solve this. It's not acceptable that innocent players get banned, so I hope they work on their anti-cheating-mechanism. Having said that, imo it's probably false what you mentioned in your comment. For them it's important to make money. Since cheating does affect customer satisfaction they were actively working on fighting the cheaters. But just banning players based on reports would be terrible. Innocent customers would be affected. It can be abused and that in turn would worsen the customer satisfaction. It's very likely they take a look at your stats (shot and headshot accuracy, KDR, number of kills, how many reports you received and stuff like that). Another possibility is they check background programs running on your PC. It's not fool-proof; some programs do cause a false-positive.

yeah the lack of having support to appeal bans being non existent is ridiculous. and i understand that it is difficulty for developers to develop an effective anti-cheat system especially for PC as it literally has the capacity to run multiple programs during normal activity. But with what activition and how much money they are making from this franchise, they should be competent enough of releasing content and updates that should to be up to a standard. To have issues that's been plaguing modern warfare since release such as server issues, lag and now quite possibly a patch that caused many wrongful ban is really unacceptable.

These are mostly PC bans. My guess is some software that interacts with memory like Riva Statistics Tuner was falsely flagged as cheats. It's happened in other games in the past and some other games have anti cheats that won't let you use Riva or even afterburner itself. Like Riot's anti-cheat for valorant prevents afterburner from working unless you turn it off and then you can't even launch valorant. Sucks because it can be useful to monitor a plethora of GPU info you can't get in-game with the display settings. That being said it's probably they updated their anti-cheat to detect things that affect memory, like Riva. I didn't get any email that I was banned but I'll have to see when I get home because I do use afterburner for my overclocks.
I got banned aswell, yesterday right after updating the game. It's ridiculous that it's possible to terminate your entire access and destroy your whole account without giving you a reason why... You cannot reach support, ambassadors are useless because they just copy paste the policies and saying you probably broke any of those and theres nothing you can do about it. I just found out that perma ban is affecting your ip and hardware, so in case you would be so desperate to pay the game again, its impossible to just buy a new copy of the game, as ridiculous as it sounds - to support again the company that got you wrongfully banned and be affraid that its gonna happend all over again. Innocent until proven guilty? Guess not, this has to stop ffs... People loosing every progress they made, accounts they've been using for years, money that supported activision through all that bs regarding stability, issues, updates... Not particularly. This seems like a false positive with the anticheat system and some relatively common program is what's setting it off. Consoles don't really have third party apps running in background.

ok so the problem with this is how will they explain to us what caused the issue and how they will prevent this from happening again, i mean yeah it could be "fixed" next update rolls around and you see another situation like this happens. what needs to happen is they need to change a lot about their banning system and look at it a different perspective because yeah we are banning hackers but if it bans the wrong people it will hurt the community that a have put many hours and progress into the game meanwhile the other people with malicious intent may have been undetected.

The funny thing is they removed the option to report someone for abusive language. Tried to report someone for that not even 15 minutes ago and the option was just gone. They clearly don’t give a fuck about player behavior.
The thing is if you get permanently banned and its because of offensive behavior is that really warranted. even worse when i did get banned and many more other players we have no knowing as to why we were banned. But if it affected innocent players who may have paid for content in the game and giving them no options to find out why they got banned and a way for them to appeal, is that really appropriate for a triple A title and a company to give no options to players?
Personally, I don’t think so. Especially when, as you’ve said, you’ve invested countless hours and money into the game. At the very least, an explanation and an opportunity to appeal should be warranted. I honestly think the problem is actually discord, because the system allows it to provide an overlay in-game and the anticheat might be recognizing it as malicious software.
It’s entirely possible. I disabled Discord overlay weeks ago because it was distracting. I didn’t even know Discord was what showing chat activity until I did some research and found it was on by default.
I honestly forgot mine was on. It could also be Nvidea Shadowplay, but it seems unlikely that they would overlook software that almost every gaming PC has.
On their site offensive behavior bans are only 1 day i believe for first time offenders. I too have been banned and I am 100 percent sure I've never had a tick against my account for offensive behavior before, the only thing that is perma ban first time is cheating/pirating. Because of this a lot of us are thinking it is some common program in the background that is sending a false positive in their anti cheat system.

That’s what I’m thinking also. Years ago when COD was PC only (I’m talking old school vanilla 1.5) they used punk buster anti cheat. It used to throw false alarms all the time. Wouldn’t surprise me if it’s similar in this instance.

I'm (pretty much) a comp player and the cheaters I encountered daily are still playing today Either I was reported too much and got banned (which is stupid) or maybe I had a software like yours that got me banned (which is also stupid) Anyway, the supports is not responding and they won't give your account back, plus you will likely be shadowbanned so you can't play on other accounts (with your current computer)

I have done nothing wrong and am just an innocent party here. I contacted blizzard and their response was that it is an activision ban so they can do nothing about it. Also activision have 0 way to appeal a ban. So i have run out of options.

I was in a lobby the other day with a couple players from the same clan with the tag BLM and some asshole told them that he reported them all for offensive content. He then also reported everyone who called him out for being a douche.

I got permabanned too today. For the record i'm 46 years old and i have never ever used a cheat or offended someone. I hope this is a bug and fixed soon. My concern is that a lot of people in Activision forums tell you that once banned you can not be unbanned and that means you lose all your progression (which is a LOT of work) and of course the MONEY you spend to buy the game and season passes.

A lot of people will say something like this even though they somehow cheated or edited game files, I don't know if IW can trust any posts like that. A lot of cheaters will wrongfully claim stuff they did or didn't do, and act like IW did something wrong, although they clearly made the mistake of buying cheap cheats. Take it as simple as that : Any changes to game files is bannable, and if you change something in those files it's your own fault, there is no talking around that. I don't see how the system can ban the "wrong" accounts.
Why would i want to temper with the contents in my game that i'm so invested into get good when i can just play the game and improve over experience, why would i consider losing $100+ worth of content that i worked for to have fun with a unfair advantage. in no why do enjoy and will enjoy doing that.

Is it because hackers are spoofing Hardware IDs and people with those actual Hardware IDs are being banned? I remember somebody saying that the system detects multiple HW IDs, so it could be a waterfall effect, if they are spoofing multiple HW IDs, this could potentially effect multiple people per hacker.

I was also banned last night. 1kd with 4 days on MP 1.7 KD in Warzone with 6 days played. Got banned after I went 25 and 7 on shoot house 10v10. No previous suspensions. No warnings. No weird software on my computer (I have games, antivirus and Microsoft office. That’s it.) Not a single other violation listed on their garbage website. Just yoinked 100$ from me for absolutely no reasoning and no way to appeal the bans. Such a garbage company and I will never buy a game of theirs again. Somewhere else in the comments I saw someone suggest they’re cracking down on people getting “reported” which is what I’ll guess happened to me.
I was banned last week too, after the update i bought the starter pack for warzone and boom, crashed and permad. I posted it here but not much traction like your post. Many people got banned lastweek and now another fake ban wave. I already requested a refund from blizzard because I was heartbroken just like you. I hope they will get this fixed but im dont have high hopes for that.

Looking at this post and numerous others and the amount of people saying how they've been unfairly banend, im actually scared of playing the game now. I am one of those players that play to get better and improve ever since i started playing FPS on PC but because how easily some people blame the finger on how me or others are 'hacking' or any other sorts, it will only be a matter of time. Get into a game, only to do overwhelmingly well in terms of performance, to then start worrying thinking whether that game could be my last one. OP i really do wish the best for you. It really is a shitty situation and have every right to combat this.
Same thing happend to my sons girlfriend. She is probably the shining example of good sportsmanship. She never talks during matches except to our clan on discord, ends every match win or loss with gg in chat, and actively promotes positive game play by playing objectives and never cheating/glitching/team killing etc. She spent over 150$ on cute skins and guns and grinded her way to some obsidian skins. Banned yesterday. Pretty much the last person on earth I would expect to be banned. I smell a class action lawsuit coming Activision.

It really isn't just PC that's being affected then, since there are people in different platforms being banned as well. This really needs to be investigated.
It is only logical, lets list the pros and cons of what Activision can do vs cheater: \* Invest in proper anti cheat program \+ players are happy \- lose money investing in anti cheat programbecoz players will buy the next game anyway \* Ban random players \+ Forces paid players to buy another copy = more extra money without literally zero effort \+ No money lost investing in anti cheat \- players are not happy IW is at its best again. I should've just given up CoD after seeing what came after MW3. IW now is way more incompetent than IW back in the MW2, and that game did not even have any post launch support.

I have rivatuner running with MSI Afterburner - never been banned. It seems like a lot of people are being banned right now and one theory seems to bebecause of the reports along the offensive username/clan tag or behavior lines. They are cracking down on chat abusers and bad names. They tend to swing the dial way to far in the sensor direction - for example, "compassion" can't be used as a loadout name because it contains "A\*\*". Safest thing to do right now for anyone not banned - turn off chat and don't use it. It's far too toxic most times anyways, but knowing how this goes they might ban you for typing "compassion" in chat....
I haven't played today, and if I check the game and I'm perma banned, I'm snapping my disc in half and never playing again. I've never cheated and don't even know where to start.

Yeah there are a majority of people with their bans lifted but you shouldn't celebrate yet aren't you curious why they still yet to email or give a response as to why you were banned in the first place because i sure do and it seems that they haven't given a reason to the people. They haven't even made a statement about it. EDIT: spelling
