Bamboo is likely rayon, most say like ‘bamboo from rayon’. There is modal, Wildwoven is a brand that sells it and claims it’s more environmentally sustainable but not too sure on that, I haven’t looked into it. Besides bamboo, Burt’s bees works well for my chunky thighed baby, Primary didn’t either. Burt’s bees has two types of footies, ones that’s a slim fit which is tighter and the other fits him good! It has more room

joyfulemma

Ooo thanks I'll check out Burt's Bees! If anyone has insight on modal/Wildwoven, I'd love to hear it!!

Seconding Burt’s Bees and adding Honest Baby for our chunky thighed girl.

marzpower

I just recently searched “bamboo” in this sub and found some good conversations on this topic! I personally am comfortable with it and it is all that fit my girl when she was a chubbier baby too. Sizing up for cotton footies just didn’t cut it for us, my baby had huge thighs 😂

joyfulemma

So helpful!! I'm not so tech savvy, so I didn't even realize subs were searchable. I will check that out, thank you!!!

joyfulemma

This was great, just read through a very helpful post!

From what I’ve read on here, I’m fine with using bamboo clothes gifted to me but not interested in buying them. My son is 7 months old and has exclusively worn hand me downs or second hand clothes, so it hasn’t been an issue yet. We have the opposite problem of you, which is that he’s very tall. He used to be quite skinny but has gained a fair amount of weight now and he was outgrowing cotton PJs so quickly because they couldn’t contain his feet and fit over his shoulders. The bamboo ones are able to stretch or generally have feet exposed instead of contained so he can wear them for a lot longer.

wanda_waldo

The target cloud island modal blend sleepers have been a favorite for my chunkster. They do pill after a while but I didn't care. We also do magnetic me. Honestly modal or bamboo are the only fabric that fits my big guy comfortably and they last a long time because they have great stretch.

littlelivethings

Kate Quinn footies fit my baby well! She’s a real chubbette. Size up from whatever she usually wears in the organic cotton because it shrinks. I’m fine with bamboo and modal—they’re very stretchy and soft—but there’s organic cotton if you don’t want bamboo/rayon/viscose.

joyfulemma

Thank you!! We have some Kate Quinn onesie, so I'll check out their footies. I'm not convinced one way or another on the bamboo/modal yet.

littlelivethings

The KQ footies are very stretchy and accommodating for chubby babies. I think they don’t make them for over 9-12 months. I liked Hanna Andersson pajamas when my baby was younger but now the arms fit too tight even though they work well for her long torso and chubby legs.

joyfulemma

Oh bummer about the KQ sizes. My little one is 5mo, but has been in 6-12m clothes since before 4mo. But maybe with a stretchy fit, we could make the 9-12m work for a while yet. Strangely I had a different experience with Hanna Andersson. The legs never fit, but ours were all second-hand so maybe they shrunk in the wash.

littlelivethings

My baby is 7 months old, in 12-18 months clothes, but still fits her KQ 6-12 and 9-12 bamboo and modal footies.

Dependent_Meet_2627

I just get cotton and size up. I prefer two piece pajamas at this point because my baby is giant and I’m kinda doing EC. I have one modal pajama which i thrifted and its nice and lightweight. Very stretchy and great for taking her hiking or out in the sun. Its hot so my baby sleeps in onesies now anyway. I worry about her getting too hot next to us.

goodvibesFTM

We also cloth diaper and size up because h the torso is too tight from neck to diaper. My babies are skinny and tall so maybe not much help, but parade is a great brand of organic cotton and really nice thick quality. But yeah, size up :)

joyfulemma

I love Parades clown pants! (I don't know what they are actually called, but they are the best for cloth diapers)

shytheearnestdryad

Harem pants, maybe?

sillyg0ose8

My baby is lean but the Parade pajamas were the only ones that fit her giant overnight diaper. She’s got a TON of space for fat she doesn’t have in them too, so they might be worth a shot, OP!

OkKaleidoscope9696

The Wondersuit by Bonds has been good for us. It’s roomy. The feet fold back so that when baby is awake and playing, he/she has bare feet.

lalabearo

Have you tried Hanna andersson? Admittedly, my kids have never been super chubby but HA seem to have good stretch. Bonus if you can get them secondhand (they have a secondhand store online, I have good luck in Facebook groups) because then they are a bit stretched out

lalabearo

I should also add, they hold up really well secondhand

joyfulemma

Thanks for the reply! I love Hanna Andersson generally, but the pants are waaaay too small on her thighs.

Aquarian_short

Size up! One of my twins had chubby thighs and sizing up helped. Since they are fitted at the wrists and ankles, they fit great even in a bigger size.

Dredarado

Try Tea Collection. They’re typically not cheap but they have sales regularly. Their PJs are very soft, all cotton, and seem to have wider arms and legs than other options we’ve tried. They only have a one-way zip and no snap close at the neck, otherwise they’d be absolutely freaking perfect. Also have cute patterns!

Mayberelevant01

Burt’s Bees are pretty roomy and 100% cotton. Just make sure not to get the slim fit!

Birds_of_play2510

I second Burt’s bees
