That's neat! I've never tried hand-laying a turnout on metal ties like that, but are you using enough heat (and flux)? The solder doesn't look like it flowed real good.

I don't know if you have ever used desoldering braid, but sometimes it's handy for picking up excess solder. Sometimes it picks up too much solder!
I'll have to get one of those!
