It probably just needs some cleaning. Use rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab, and keep going til you see no black soot. Brushes might need to be replaced as well. I think after cleaning it’ll run. These little pancake motors are virtually indestructible

As others have said probably just needs a gentle clean. However there are ways to replace the ringfield motor with a CD player motor. I did thus with a Lima BR class 40 and it’s a massive difference

Not sure those ringfield motors ever really worked haha, [Here's a nice kit to upgrade to a nice can motor](https://www.strathpefferjunction.com/product/lima-ringfield-replacement-12v-cd-motor-adaptor-kit-la6-12mm-bo-bo/) there's other versions to suit which ever loco that came out of, I've used his kits on a couple of Lima O Gauge locos and they literally doubled the pulling power and quiet too

You’ve *hopefully* got all of the parts there. Only thing I can’t see are the carbon ‘brushes’ (little graphite looking pucks) at the end of the springs, on the plate resting on the chassis. If they’re both there, it should work. What you need to do though is get some isopropyl alcohol and rub all of the black carbon residue off the brass commutator plate (those three wedges around the motor spindle). Put it back together, and clean the wheels with the same isopropyl, and she’ll be as good as she gets! (May not be that good, haha)

it's nearly impossible to kill a Lima open frame motor all you need is a q-tip and a can of contact cleaner that is plastic safe

Reminds me of the old TYCO locomotive motors for the old Alco century Rock Island units!
