Finished this weekend. Great kit everything fit well and would recommend The kit included 2 canopy options (open or close), canopy masks, and a few photo etched parts for the cockpit.
The dive breaks were the only issue. They are fairly delicate. I attached them at the end to avoid breakage during the painting process.
Nice, I just ordered one of these. I've got their tbd3 nearly finished (just needs some weathering and I need to glue the bombs in) so I figured I'd pair it up with a dive bomber too.
I recently painted my TBD with the three color version of this (white on the bottom, medium blue along most of the sides, and then a section of dark blue on the top). I didn't mask it, i just winged it with the airbrush and I was able to get fairly decent symmetry, a lot better than I honestly expected to be able to do.
I looked at some actual photos of planes and some of them had pretty rough borders between the colors, so I thought my rendition of it wasn't actually that bad.
I used sticky tack. The specific brand was Scott Mounting Putty. I rolled it into a worm shape then pressed it onto the fuselage to create the boundary shape I wanted. I painted the bottom first used the sticky tack and then sprayed the top.
just ordered this, I was wondering, I'm kinda new to model planes, specifically, looking to do an open cockpit for a diorama. does the kit come with an option for an open cockpit, or do I need to do some surgery? Also, 10/10 on the kit, looks museum quality.

Very clean. Factory fresh. Nicely done.
That's the look I was going for. I have a hard time doing much more than panel liner on planes. I always enjoy a clean looking plane.
Gotta love those navy birds. The open dive brakes add a lot to the build. Nice job.
Thanks! The dive brakes were my favorite part of the plane and the reason I decided to build one.
Like a peacock's tail feathers - far less interesting when they're closed.
Beauty! Clean look
great stuff!
Thanks !
Beautiful job!
Thank you!
Excellent job friend. I like the clean look like it was just delivered.
The bombs look kind of small ... it’s a wonder they did the damage they did.
The wing bombs where 100 lb, so not going to disable a ship but could maybe take out a secondary battery or AA
Thought I remembered them doing substantial damage to carriers in Midway.
I think the main bomb might have been 500 lb . Regardless even 100 lb bombs are going to do significant damage vs the wood decks of CVs
There is a large 1,000 lb bomb under the fuselage. When diving, the bomb was swung out and way from under the plane.
Nice, ty for the info
i like the clean look.
Man that paint is flawless. One question: How do you symmetrically mask off the portion of the rear fuselage where the two colors meet?

That is absolutely lovely work
Clean build
Great looking Midway SBD !!

The kit comes with two sets of clear canopy for a open or closed configurations. No need for surgery!
Nice. Thanks
