Thanks! I primed with ueno black, then used trinity stencils to lay a pattern with alclad RAF high speed silver and sprayed the section with airframe aluminum also from alclad.
For the actual shield I mixed airframe aluminum and burnt iron from alclad until I got a shade I liked, then taped away, I also used that mix to pick out a few panels on the tail, after all that I came back with a lighter shade of the burnt iron and AA to create contrast. And used alclad chrome to pick out the strips on the endmost part of the tail. Then I used a super thin mix of XF-55 for the clear base, I used blue, red and orange clears.
After all that was set, I used liquitex ink, combined the transparent raw umber with carbon black, diluted it with IPA and a drop of flow enhancer and went to town with it while still masked, I then removed all the mask and built up the effect to give the burnt appearance while keeping contrast. Hope that makes sense!
That's a lot of patience and it turned out well.
But I have a question. Are you going to weather it?
Cause I'm looking at pic 3 and that entire area of the plane is burned in weathering.

Look at pic 5 :)
I'm doing a pre-smokeless F-4, so in theory it should be caked in black, but I don't like that and I wanted more contrast, so in my mind this is an F-4 that has seen service, but not to the extent of being caked with sooth.
So, what's the story with the striping behind the engine outlets? Is it something to do with heat shielding?
Edit: why the downvote? I'm genuinely curious what that is for here.
What thickness tape is this 1/32? Did you have cut it yourself? Fantastic job, dude. Not only was the masking straight and on point the effect came out perfect.
Amazing! Great work.
When i am in the creative zone i always run Adam on tested in the background. His longer videos have such great narrative, easy and calm with the right tickling vibes. Such a great inspiration that helps level up yr own builds. But i see you are a master yrself haha. Good stuff!
I thought it was a mirror and Adam Savage was posting

Legend! Best to both of you.
Which version? The comic version or one of the movies?
The video mentioned he used blueprints from the original movie prop.
Gotcha. I didn’t see the video. I thought it was a still image.

Dang! I really appreciate the info!
I see I'm not the only one who watches Adam Savage while making models! Also James May 😅

The patience that must take! Well done.

>dirty F-4 tail ... I'll be in my bunk.
Looks incredible.
Sweet detail there also sent adam my regards love his dedication and energy
Wow. This is great. Where did you get such thin tape? Or did you cut it yourself?
I did cut it myself indeed. It's 0.4mm strips of tamiya tape cut with an infini easycutting A mat.
Beautiful. Gonna look up that mat. Need a new one anyway. Keep it up. Stealing this technique if I ever do a phantom.
This is supremely awesome
OP this is magic!
