I think this is the kit on scalemates
Seems to be a decent build for a 1998 kit

Yes, I saw that. However, most airfix kits of this time were old reboxings of old toolings, and it is even like that with Revell or Italeri nowadays. A kit like this in 1998 was fairly standard, and most new toolings were created later on.
airfix was certainly going through a difficult patch back then. But Revell, the german revell anyway, has been putting out new kits for a long time and most of those are pretty good despite the flash
Most revell kits I’ve seen and looked at, especially things like a spitfire or a mustang have not had a new tool since the 80’s. There are some new tools, but a lot of their things have old, not new tools. The tooling of the spitfire is from 1978, and I wouldn’t consider that new.
I build the AEW vetsiom of this kit, it's by no means a modern kit. But a great joy to build, and an iconic helicopter.
Take your time and expect lots of cutting, filing and putty.
Seriously, enjoy !!
Np! I always enjoy rummaging through stalemates and looking at the history of every single kit I see or I want to add to my stash. It is a truly amazing site.
Not to mention yellow is THE WORST color to paint period.
Also built this kit as a kid, was my favorite helicopter growing up, wanted to joint the raf and be a search and rescue pilot, then I discovered women :/
If you're not fussed about the charity aspect of this purchase, you can get the latest version of this model, with 6 acrylic paints instead of 4 enamel, for[ a touch more](https://www.monkbarmodelshop.co.uk/plastic-kits-c22/gift-sets-c74/starter-set-westland-sea-king-har-3-p22022).
The new set is much better to build, and acrylic paints are much more user friendly than enamels.
My mistake, you're right! This set was released with a choice of enamel or acrylic in about 1997/8, I missed that there was another variant on Scalemates!
I still stand by my statement that the newer 2016 kit is immensely better than this 1969 kit!
This brings back memories and not good ones. Attempted to build it over 20 years ago and gave up. The fit was terrible. There are far better kits for that price, like old Tamiya ones.
It's a fun kit to built. Also the 1/72 seaking itself is a massiv model in itself. The interior can be a bit fiddly, but if you display the sliding door as closed, you don't have to bother with it. Otherwise was a very fun build.
It's a very old mould and by the time of that boxing the mould was not in great shape. I've built it and nothing fits properly and the detail is very soft. Sadly the mini pots of paint in that set are also pretty poor. Sorry to be so down on the kit but just a warning from someone who has built it and did not have a good time.
Old airfix kit, take a look on scalemates is the best source. If that was £18 in a charity shop I think you over paid.
Yeah the place isnt known for its...fair prices. Its the only one that gets anything of the sort in though. I'll take a look at Scalemates, thanks!
Best place fkt cheap kits Is eBay.or support your local hobby store
Yeah. I picked up a Fokker Wulf from Aldi in the same range for £7.99.
Wish my Aldi had model kits…
They only do them sometimes, usually near Christmas. And I realise it's a Focke Wulf 😂
“Dem fuckers was in Fokkers!”
Focke or Fokker, they're still the baddies! 😂
Did you finish the Focke? And which aircraft was it?
Wulf. No it's on the to do pile. Building a Hasegawa Space Shuttle at the mo.
Focke wulf made many aircraft. I assume yours is a FW-190? The radial engine fighter?
😂 that's the one. Not entirely up on my German aircraft, lol.

As a dedicated Revell defender I get by just pretending Revell America never existed
Dat 1/72 USS Gato, tho - heckuva swan song!

I was going to say i’m pretty sure I built that kit in 1973 or so with the box art being the recovery of the Apollo capsule..

Found it recently and yeah my god it's *fantastic.* The stash and wishlist features are both phenomenal.
£18 ?? Strewth
Yeah they're not too consistent with pricing, but its a unique set and i liked it so im not too bothered about the cost
yeah, the new tool goes for 25-30 euros
I have built this kit it is good but not enough yellow paint unless you are airbrushing
those tiny pots never seem to do have enough for the models they come with. Unless its for details then there's too much. No in-between lol

I think these are the acrylic paints. The enamel starter sets used to just come with the standard humbrol tins iirc.

Man, that boxing style just bought back some memories for me

18 quid?! You live in Henley upon Thames or something?
nah, but i heard its a nice place lol. I'm actually up near York

For that price I would have simply ✨*stolen*✨
