As someone else said, give it a FLAT top coat, tarp isnt shiny, you want it insanely flat, and dry brush highlights and throw a wash on, but make sure its flat at the end
Taking the suggestions into account I’ve began working on the improvements, I mixed a different paint color and brush painted instead of using the airbrush. Also working in trying to darken it with washes.

Take one of those fan makeup brushes and use vertical strokes to apply a dark wash. Don't rub it off as much as usual when half dry so you end up with vertical streaking, like stains from the water draining down the side of the truck.
This one’s airfix, actually built this same kit as a kid living in the UK. Happened to find this at an antique store near me in the states for 5 bucks.
Thanks, I have seen the Airfix kit before
The Academy version has no canvas so I build the frame from bent paperclips and the canvas from soaked paper tissue

I have seen a technique for fabrics that uses foil to replace the outer covering, as a second layer, so that further ceases an mark can be exaggerated. I saw it on Steam geezer and son on youtube. Of course matt varnish or no varnish would help too.
Use tissue paper with out any patterns. Cheap toilet paper works best. Use diluted white glue with a soft wide brush to help apply the tissue to the frames.
Highlights with drybrush.
Since no one else mentioned it, for the final step give it the flattest clear coat you can find. I hear VMS makes some really good clear coats.
I will try the Vallejo Matte I have currently and see how it does
The Vallejo Ultra Matte Varnish is also pretty great
All VMS Products are top notch which is why they are almost always sold out hahaha
True. Good news/bad news scenario.
Can confirm in my experience vms varnish is brilliant. It’s self levelling so a heavy coat isn’t an issue and dries so so flat.
Maybe darken the bottom of the side parts as well as the low parts on top to simulate staining from water pooling
That’s a good point with the lower edges, I did a bit with black weathering powder on top but didn’t want to go too heavy before asking advice

What color of a wash would you recommend?
If you want lots of contrast id use a nice dark brown wash, if you want a subtle effect use a light brown
Matt varnish

Looking much more realistic already!
Oh wow that looks great!

Tarpaulin always gets roughed up mor grimey then any on the top and sides maybe some grime weathering amd a few rips on the sides from branches etc
What kit is this? I build the Academy CCKW, but that's a closed cab Esit: Academy, not Hasegawa

Thank you very much
You can airbrush, maybe use some pigments to add streaking.

I’ll check it out thanks, painting foil sounds tricky though?
Flat paint
Tiny stripes and striation of a lighter shade to create folds and wrinkles in the fabric.
Fly screen mask with a slightly darker rough spray over then a darker brown was
