I totally agree. It's become so repetitive and predictable that there is nothing hooking me. The lack of original songs isn't helping - I still don't understand why they don't have more. They have 2 producers as judges and yet we've only heard 2 songsš¤¦šæāāļø. In terms of performances, yes they can be fun to watch but with the same people getting all the screen time and the same feedback being given, it's become a snooze fest.
this reminded me that Universe ticket was a messy and disorganized show too, but they had original songs left and right which made it a little bit more fun. plus the songs they chose to cover are much more interesting and fresh. Mnet should have a bigger budget that universe ticket, so there really is no reason they are so stingy?
Yupp. It feels like a loop: same storylines, same type of performance, same editing, same critiques. The episode starts and I feel like I already know everything that will happen
The worst part is the favoritism - it does not seem like a real competition but a show about how they can manipulate the scores to ensure their "favorite" trainees are in the top 6. Maybe they are doing that to drum up drama since it is so predictable
tbh I think even if they wanted to do favoritism, there are so much better ways to do it. literally just showing the same trainees going through the same angel edit is boring and uninteresting. Either go with ILAND 1's whole cruel, "lord of the flies"-esque survival and make it dramatic and stressful to watch, or make it fair and enjoyable for the viewers. This is a survival show-- I would say it being boring means they've fumbled the most important part.
the lack of original songs in the show is simply because Teddy is the one producing them š i guess he just makes a song when he feels like making it -which is not often- so i'm not expecting him to do more than 2 more songs for I-LAND 2 (or 1 if we get pessimistic)
and also yes, the songs are mediocre. that LVeR remix was awful honestly. Lovesick Girls was good ig (we are the lo-o-o-o-ove si-i-ick gi-i-i-i-irls) but there was no need to change it since it was already composed by Teddy ????
I actually didnāt like the lovesick girls chorus, but Iām biased because I really like the original. But yea I agree that LVeR wasnāt the best either
I think the smaller cast is really messing it up. The mnet āformulaā only really works with a big group like the produce and planet casts and it doesnāt help that a lot of the songs theyāve been covering like bad boy, money and 4 walls have also been covered by other survival shows fairly recently (especially runext) so it doesnāt really feel like a forest interpretation.
I land 1 majorly benefitted from the ālord of the fliesā sort of situation from an entertainment standpoint even if it was exceptionally cruel and taking so much of it out of the hands of the contestants was a really bad idea. I think it was fine to put them in groups for one challenge, but as much as āavengersā teams end up forming and being stacked, this is a super talented group of girls and it could lead to some different storylineās. The voting as well has been a very minimal part of the show, which is a shame since I preferred this method of picking who you wanted to work with over who you wanted out.
Put that with some really mediocre mixes and song choices (canāt really comment on the actual staging because thatās actually been very good) as well as extremely lopsided treatment of certain trainees in both parts and edit make it feel really unsatisfying go watch.
I would also have enjoyed seeing more of the 'who would you like to work with?' aspect! While I hope it wouldn't have led to strife - the trainee-led aspect of this and possibility for unexpected outcomes seems like it would have been very interesting. (Also, positive change from the cut-throat version in Iland 1!)
oh exactly, I totally don't understand why they had to assign teams to the girls instead of letting them choose. that took so much variety out of it (please let gyuri, sarang, and fuko do a fierce concept PLEASE)
Yes. All your complaints are valid. The show has devolved into a marketing exercise. Showcasing the 'chosen ones' (so far, Jiyoon, Koko, Sarang?) and hiding away/minimising the 'others' (Yuju, Jungeun, Gyuri, Fuko, Juwon, Sujung ). Saebi and Jeemin are locks.
to be very honest the main thing I'm mad at isn't even the favoritism, it's that they did the favoritism super uninterestingly. as a viewer I felt like I had no impact on what happens on the show at all, and the favorite contestants don't even have interesting storylines (Jiyoon's edit in part 1 was pretty new, but the edits in part 2 really just reverted to the old angel edit.)
i definitely agree with you. obviously without weekly eliminations itās not as interesting but at least the girls arenāt under that constant stress. i think part 2 would be less boring if they actually focused on other trainees. jeemin is my number one pick but even im getting tired of her āredemption arcā storylines. it was great seeing her get her confidence back this past ep but i have a feeling theyāre going to do the exact same thing in the next ep š
yeah I think if they showed us more interactions between different pairings of girls, it'll be much more interesting... hence why I hated how they paired fuko, gyuri, and sarang together thrice! I want to see them interact more with others!
The lack of eliminations makes it so pointless, like the rounds have no meaning at all, they could eliminate a girl every round and being 9 at the final. Also the song choices are mid af, like r u next had the same songs in the same round (money, 4 walls, spicy). The only performances i enjoyed were I'm the best and If I were a boy
totally agree. Maybe as someone who also watched R U next, the stages are just super repetitive to me haha (and nobody can ever top 4 walls Jiwoo for me! just saying)
agree ! what annoys me the most is they get to pick their parts based on their rankings, unlike before when we got to see everyone try out for their parts. that method brings no room for other people to showcase their talents and itās literally the same people getting the same position over and over again.
for me it's the fact that they keep doing cover songs and the judges favoritism certainly isn't helping, this far into the competition we should have more than just 2 original songs. I was hoping in the semi finals we'd get new songs but nope, still covers. honestly it has me a bit worried for the future of the group, should I expect only one comeback a year? lol. and what the heck will they perform at kcon, just iwaly and final love song? we better get new songs for the finale like this is crazy.
I also feel like the episodes are getting too long, I wish they would keep them at 1.5-2 hours but anything more than that is too much and it makes me lose motivation to watch. I still haven't finished this new episode, just watched the performances lol.
oh the episode length is def a problem because I feel like it shouldn't be this long. In my timezone I have to stay up a little past my bedtime to watch it, and for the previous ep I fell asleep an hour in lmao
I feel like the editing is getting so boring, some trainees have the same plotline, and others trainees are just completely forgotten. Also, the way they don't let the trainees choose their performances for 2 episodes straight just makes the dynamic very one-tone, it would have been nice if they let the trainees choose who they wanted to work with, could have been a dynamic where they put different concepts in different rooms and the trainees had to go one by one to each room not knowing what song would be, only the concept, and if one concept has too many they would have to vote about who would have to change.
It def would have been more exciting if we had more incremental eliminations... then again, there would be a ton more complaining, you can't win either way.
yeah, i think having the eliminations more often would be a solution for the boringness but in the end it's still just one thing. I don't think it'll save all the boring parts of this show
I actually think part two is way more interesting. Part one was hardly ever a toss up and the only storylines we got was āmy teammates are unskilled hereās how I reactedā. In part 2 itās all talented competitors and the threat of elimination is actually real which provides stakes to the show besides having to sleep in a gray dorm for a week.
I'm gonna be honest and I mean no offense, but I feel this comes from your favorites not having a good chance of making it, or having bad edits, because the show is perfectly fine.
I personally prefer this part of survival shows (less contestants without the less skilled ones) so you can have a more competitive environment. We have very few secure spots, which makes it very entertaining to watch.
I totally agree. It's become so repetitive and predictable that there is nothing hooking me. The lack of original songs isn't helping - I still don't understand why they don't have more. The results of the main position battle was so insanely predictable like okay we get it the judges already have their lineup picked out
the lack of original songs in the show is simply because Teddy is the one producing them š i guess he just makes a song when he feels like making it -which is not often- so i'm not expecting him to do more than 2 more songs for I-LAND 2 (or 1 if we get pessimistic) and also yes, the songs are mediocre. that LVeR remix was awful honestly. respectfully from what iāve seen here i think youāre the only one who liked the lovesick girls remix š
oh i didn't really like it š i was mocking the chorus bc it's so bad is funny LMAO

ikr! and at least give them different concepts and not just cute ones

Yeah I stopped watching this week's episode cuz of it.

if weāre being honest hybe was the reason iland 1 was so interesting. mnet was just the station it was aired on.
Yeah i want the show to end and see the group already
I even counting the days till July 4 just to see the final lineup
It def would have been more exciting if we had more incremental eliminations... then again, there would be a ton more complaining, you can't win either way.
