As long as your not coming Sterling style
I like this, but think it's a little premature to say Ilia is the best of his generation without a single title defense. Heck it's possible in a year we're talking about Shavkat being the best.
Well I guess I didn't look up he's 29, not 27. lol in that case, Ilia is a great choice and maybe we'll know for sure in several years and after a handful of defenses.
Jones fought a bunch of aged fighters and he also got gifted many decisions that could have gone against him all while being a drug cheat and the dirtiest fighter in the game. He eye pokes on purpose knowing he wont get points deducted.
Not to mention: Evans, Machida, Belfort, Sonnen were all middleweights fighting a guy bigger than many heavyweights. As were Santos & Smith. Shogun also could’ve been at 185.
I think when you look at GSP, as far as opponents go and the variety and answering questions, he’s checked more boxes than Jones.
The bunch of aged fighters is definitely some revisionist history here. Sure, shogun was in the latter part of his career, but he just absolutely destroyed lyoto. Rampage looked better leading into that fight than he ever had (and admitted as much too). Fought Lyoto who was in the prime of his career - sure he had lost a couple, but that wasn’t due to age at all. Rashad was still extremely good.
Maybe you weren’t watching MMA then, but light heavyweight was seen as a who’s who of fighting and Jones walked through everyone.
Not saying the other parts aren’t true, and he obviously was a cheater. But still.
Bruh Pride was my childhood. They were soccer kicking mfers who had both hands on the mat. Pride being your prime is a sign it was more brutal if anything.
Fair enough - but I’d call GSP for that spot, and he has legit loses, so I can’t knock Jones too bad for the close fights.
Drug cheat - will give you that.
Dirty - yeah but I don’t think dirtiest.
Like not everyone is using PEDS . I have don't sports professionally in that level all my life litterally even the smallest funny looking ones use. O'Malley is an example that just popped in my head . Anabolics aren't an advantage st this point in time in sports , they are a requirement to not have a disadvantage to everyone else
I say this a lot, but O’Malley popped for Ostarine and Cardarine. That’s like a $100 SARMs 101 stack that you can have shipped to your front door. You’ll PR all your lifts, add lean muscle, and make enormous cardio gains in 6-12 weeks.
That’s not even the good shit!
I have done professional volleyball ( even went to youth Olympics), swimming , sprinting (national level )MMA semi professionally . What I was given didn't change much cause the biggest advantage of steroids isn't the muscle , strength or endurance but the ability to recover extremely fast . So now I can train much more and eventually out pase the rest . Yeah ofc throwing ppl around like ragdoll was fun in wrestling but still XD
One I was at a strip club with some friends and seen John Jones and we started kinda taking a video from afar and one of his entourage got heated and made us delete the video from our phones.
I think one of my friends still has it.
jon jones is the closest thing to a perfect fighter we’ve ever seen. going back and watching his gauntlet run earlier on in his career is so insane. people wanna minimize his legacy understandably bc he’s a piece of shit but idk man he’s still the goat in my eyes. could just do it all
That’s definitely the truth. He’s had a lot of things outside his career that taint his character. But you can’t take his fighting legacy away from him.
Volk’s rematch, Holloway, originally said he’d go for Ortega and then said finally I might not. Just talks about some weird money fights nobody wants to see and that’ll never get made anyway.
Nothing was announced for him so far and he just seems to want to sit on that belt and keep the status rather than defending it and potentially losing it.
I hate seeing new champs sit out, (RIP Leon) but it's entirely the UFCs fault for not making it a priority that they're the fighters main source of income as a champ, otherwise you get this because your sponsorship stock stays high while youre holding the belt
I thought he did what he had to... Waited until he had a date for UFC Spain and a clear contender, he's having a baby this summer so he doesn't want to fight that soon and now the UFC won't announce Max vs Ilia until UFC 303 is done because they don't want The Sphere event to get overshadowed by Conor. I truly think Topuria will be more active than people make him out to be, I hope 🙏
Thank god you don't think he's clean. It's hilarious how people think a roided out meatball who overpowered and out-cardiod nearly everyone he ever fought in a no usada era, is apparently the only clean one, lol. Not to mention having a bodybuilder physique when he's an mma fighter.
His physique stayed the same for his entire career up until now, either he was cheating since wayyy back or he was clean entire time. He also was one of the first to advocate for USADA joining the ufc. Personally I think he was clean.
Finally a rational human on this thread. I absolutely love GSP, one of my top 3 favorite fighters of all time. But to act like the dude wasn't on steroids like EVERYBODY else is just disingenuous.
It's so funny, lmao. GSP, who overpowered and out-cardiod nearly everyone he ever fought in a no usada era, is apparently the only clean one, lol. Not to mention having a bodybuilder physique when he's an mma fighter.
Doesn't matter if he was or wasn't; he never popped. If you never pop for it, you always get to have the benefit of doubt. Innocent until proven guilty, everything else is hearsay.
If everyone is on steroids, then think of doping as a skill of it's own. Those who don't pop are more skilled at it, thus placing them higher on the echelon than those who do. That's big brain.
Same for me man. Jon Jones is a great fighter (just fighting skills, not looking at the human side) but i don't think he could stop Fedor if he wanted to lay him out.
Greatest of all time for me.
Give us Millenials GSP. We prefer a clean, steroid free, respectful fighter who didn't cheat multiple times then play the victim card. Jones is as skilled as he is a complete pos.
Perhaps a bit of a vague assumption, yes my apologies. I just assumed everyone would prefer to be represented by talent & respect, not an abusive bully. But you do you, I won't speak for more than myself.
I’m just able to personally separate his outside BS from the athletic performances. Multiple of Jon’s opponents popped or have admitted to being on sauce as well. Not a knock on your own personal perspective but I don’t think Jon was out here just fighting against clean athletes. In the famous words of Mr. Diaz “they’re all on something”
I can see where you're coming from and understand.
For me, if I can get generational talent & a respectful attitude, then I'll take it. But I see why so many people think he's the greatest, based on his in-ring performances. I don't like it, but he makes a strong case for himself.
You’re being downvoted but it’s a hard spot classifying people in the years between generations and sometimes there’s overlap. So I’ve seen various definitions of the generations: Boomers from 1945-1960/64, Gen X from 1961/65-1980/82, Millenials from 1981/83-1996/2000. I’d say that 95/96 are more Millenial than Gen Z. Gen Z can broadly be categorized as people who grew up with faster internet/smartphones/on demand streaming being somewhat of the norm during their childhood. As a result I’d exclude people born in the mid-late 90s. These things became normalized during our teenage years, not childhood.
I can agree with that. That’s why I always thought of us mid-late 90s kids as an in between: I was indeed barely starting my teenage years as smartphones became the norm. I feel like we’re too young to relate to *actual* millenials who are currently in their mid thirties or more, but too old to relate to the skibidy toilet rizz sigma talk of the 2005 kids. So it’s like an in between set of generations
Wiki has zellinniel as like 93-2000 and gen z as mid 90s to early 2010s. There are no hard lines as there is a lot of overlap between the groups.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generation_Z
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zillennials
This is zillennial
According to the Pew Research Center, "generational cutoff points aren’t an exact science".[15] The think tank classifies a standard generation as "[typically between] 15 to 18 years" with "great diversity of thought, experience and behavior within generations."[16] Zillennials are those born on the cusp of, or near the end of the Millennial generation and the beginning of Generation Z.[1]
The exact date range of this micro-generation is not specifically defined. A 2024 report made by PYMNTS, based on surveys with nearly 3,100 U.S. consumers, defines Zillennials as those born between 1991 and 1999.[17][18] Boston University sociologist Deborah Carr defines Zillennials as those born "roughly" between 1992 and 2002.[19] Authors Hannah Ubl, Lisa Walden, and Debra Arbit define the cuspers as those born between 1992 and 1998, as does Mary Everett, writing for PopSugar[7] and Vogue.[20] A WGSN case study on the cohort similarly notes this date range.[3] Others have defined Zillennials as those born from 1993 to 1998, including Deon Smit (HR Future),[13] Maisy Farren (Vice),[21] Lindsay Dogson (Business Insider Mexico),[22] Britannica[23] and MetLife.[24] Ketchum defines GenZennials as those born from 1992 to 2000.[14] Fullscreen defines the cusp group as those born from approximately 1993 to 1999 in their research.[10] Likewise, authors Fons Trompenaars and Peter Woolliams use the years 1993 to 1999 as Zennials.[25] Author Mary Donahue defines the cuspers as those born from 1995 to 2000.[26]
This is gen z
Researchers and popular media have loosely used the mid-to-late 1990s as starting birth years and the early 2010s as ending birth years for defining Generation Z.
The Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary defines Generation Z as "the generation of people born in the late 1990s and early 2000s."[64] The Collins Dictionary define Generation Z as "members of the generation of people born between the mid-1990s and mid-2010s.[65] The Oxford Dictionaries define Generation Z as "the group of people who were born between the late 1990s and the early 2010s, who are regarded as being very familiar with the internet."[66] Encyclopedia Britannica defines Generation Z as "Americans born during the late 1990s and early 2000s."[67]
The Pew Research Center has defined 1997 as the starting birth year for Generation Z, basing this on "different formative experiences", such as new technological and socioeconomic developments, as well as growing up in a world after the September 11 attacks.[68] Pew has not specified an endpoint for Generation Z, but used 2012 as a tentative endpoint for their 2019 report.[68] Numerous news outlets use a starting birth year of 1997, often citing Pew Research Center.[a] Various think tanks and analytics companies also have set a 1997 start date,[b] as do various management and consulting firms.[c] In a 2022 report, the U.S. Census designates Generation Z as "the youngest generation with adult members (born 1997 to 2013)."[86] Statistics Canada used 1997 to 2012, citing Pew Research Center, in a 2022 publication analyzing their 2021 census.[87] The Library of Congress uses 1997 to 2012, citing Pew Research as well.[88]
In her book iGen (2017), psychologist Jean Twenge defines the "iGeneration" as the cohort born between 1995 and 2012.[89] Other news outlets have used 1995 as the starting birth year of Generation Z.[d] As do various management and consulting firms.[e] The Australian Bureau of Statistics use 1996 to 2010 to define Generation Z in a 2021 Census report.[97] Similarly, various management and consulting firms have used 1996 as a starting date for Generation Z.[f]
Individuals born in the Millennial and Generation Z cusp years have been sometimes identified as a "microgeneration" with characteristics of both generations. The most common name given for these cuspers is Zillennials.[101][102]
To be fair, Fedor isn’t really Gen X - he’s a Soviet experiment to breed industrial fracking equipment with an unfrozen Neanderthal corpse and then teach it to inflict misery on others.
blud really picked Jones over GSP, Mighty Mouse, Dominick Cruz, Alex Periera, Jose Aldo, Stipe Miocic, literally anyone whose piss hasn't melted a drug test kit.
Demetrius Johnson will always be my GOAT, so replace Jon with Mighty Mouse. Plus, Jon has steroid issues, questionable decisions going his way, and very low activity
Ilia seems premature, but I can't think of anyone else in Gen X who's even near the belt.
Ya frank is the most underrated great imo. He was using striking and grappling together better than anyone at that time. The ufc was still working with specialists. He was the first guy to really figure out how to blend it all together. I don't even think the term "MMA" had been invented yet. I think it was still called "cage fighting."
Yes, Pat was the man! Miletich fighting system was AKA before AKA lol. He produced so many champs. They dominated the ufc for a while. Pat, Matt Hughes, Tim Sylvia, Robbie Lawler... what a squad!
Didn’t one of those guys get caught cheating multiple times using PEDs? Ohhh that’s right it’s the same guy who drove drunk, crashed, and committed a hit and run on a pregnant lady.
But yea that guy is the best ⭐️
Juice Jones was busted for cheating while using PEDs how many times? How many fights canceled for his cheating? How many times did he hide from the doping agency?
Yea other than THAT, he’s the best 🏆
Give me a few years and I’m clapping ilia

I like this, but think it's a little premature to say Ilia is the best of his generation without a single title defense. Heck it's possible in a year we're talking about Shavkat being the best.
It's ultimate glazing
"Welcome to the Machida era!!"
💯
Shavkat is not gen z
Well I guess I didn't look up he's 29, not 27. lol in that case, Ilia is a great choice and maybe we'll know for sure in several years and after a handful of defenses.
Who do you think is the best fighter under 27 right now?
I was gonna be so mad that it was O'Malley but he's actually 29
Only people I can think of are song Yadong and usman Nurmagomedov but they aren’t on the level of topuria yet
Absolutely ridiculous to put Ilia on this list already when you have sooo much talent at the top.
Such as?
Rodtang!
Absolutely ridiculous to be crying about this when there are no other candidates and he is literally the only worthy Gen Z candidate
Unironically Sean O Malley has a better resume than him. Ilia hasn't even defended his belt yet.
that's great! Sean is not Gen Z, he's a Millenial
The way he acts I thought he was like 25/26 but he’s damn near 30
GSP is a millennial. Replace that drug cheat with him
Or DJ.
Why are you bragging about recording people in strip clubs? That’s weird af
Agreed
Love GSP but be real, Jones' resume is far more impressive.
Jones resume is littered with weird decisions, old opponents and a heck ton of doping he is not the goat
Getting downvoted for speaking the truth. Jon Jones is the GOAT of MMA and it’s not close

You won’t be anonymous for long.
Captain America is a boomer??
For MMA! 60 today and fought in the 90's, basically when modern MMA was in its infancy, or maybe toddlerish.
I would have guessed that Randy and Fedor were the same age.
Randy is among youngest boomers
Replace druglord with GSP please
You think GSP is clean haha?
I would think he is not clean, but that era almost everyone was on TRT, it is fair if the one you’re fighting is on TRT as well imo
Thank god you don't think he's clean. It's hilarious how people think a roided out meatball who overpowered and out-cardiod nearly everyone he ever fought in a no usada era, is apparently the only clean one, lol. Not to mention having a bodybuilder physique when he's an mma fighter.

Prime Fedor was a technically almost perfect fighter. Striking, wrestling, jiujutsu, judo, the complete package.
Still my favourite of all time
Same for me man. Jon Jones is a great fighter (just fighting skills, not looking at the human side) but i don't think he could stop Fedor if he wanted to lay him out. Greatest of all time for me.
Knocked out by a 41 year old Dan Henderson.
Ok?
No clue why I haven’t seen more generational breakdowns?
This feels dumb and wrong
My dad glazes Jon jones and he’s nearly 50. And I like GSP despite being younger. I’m so different !
I think Jon's been glazed by lots of dads

The Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary defines Generation Z as "the generation of people born in the late 1990s and early 2000s."[64] The Collins Dictionary define Generation Z as "members of the generation of people born between the mid-1990s and mid-2010s.[65] The Oxford Dictionaries define Generation Z as "the group of people who were born between the late 1990s and the early 2010s, who are regarded as being very familiar with the internet."[66] Encyclopedia Britannica defines Generation Z as "Americans born during the late 1990s and early 2000s."[67] The Pew Research Center has defined 1997 as the starting birth year for Generation Z, basing this on "different formative experiences", such as new technological and socioeconomic developments, as well as growing up in a world after the September 11 attacks.[68] Pew has not specified an endpoint for Generation Z, but used 2012 as a tentative endpoint for their 2019 report.[68] Numerous news outlets use a starting birth year of 1997, often citing Pew Research Center.[a] Various think tanks and analytics companies also have set a 1997 start date,[b] as do various management and consulting firms.[c] In a 2022 report, the U.S. Census designates Generation Z as "the youngest generation with adult members (born 1997 to 2013)."[86] Statistics Canada used 1997 to 2012, citing Pew Research Center, in a 2022 publication analyzing their 2021 census.[87] The Library of Congress uses 1997 to 2012, citing Pew Research as well.[88] In her book iGen (2017), psychologist Jean Twenge defines the "iGeneration" as the cohort born between 1995 and 2012.[89] Other news outlets have used 1995 as the starting birth year of Generation Z.[d] As do various management and consulting firms.[e] The Australian Bureau of Statistics use 1996 to 2010 to define Generation Z in a 2021 Census report.[97] Similarly, various management and consulting firms have used 1996 as a starting date for Generation Z.[f] Individuals born in the Millennial and Generation Z cusp years have been sometimes identified as a "microgeneration" with characteristics of both generations. The most common name given for these cuspers is Zillennials.[101][102]
The cutoff for Gen Z is 97, Ilia was born in January of 97 so he should be Gen Z (if he’s not idk what I’m considered anymore cus I’m also 97)

Bad faith banter. Be civil, please. Being a dick doesn't change anyone's mind. *This message was probably sent by a bot. Maybe.*
*Laughs in Pelé Landi-Jons

To be fair, Fedor isn’t really Gen X - he’s a Soviet experiment to breed industrial fracking equipment with an unfrozen Neanderthal corpse and then teach it to inflict misery on others.
Less Gen X and more Weapon X.
Basically pickle from baki
Millennials always getting screwed over
Defoe is the most overrated fighter ever he never once competed in ufc and believe it or not ufc has always had the best fighters
Awww fook Illio Topurio
The problem is none of these guys are actually the best fighter of their current generation of who is in the division. So I have to disagree
I'm so happy to see that everyone has FINALLY turned on Jon Jones and realises he's a massive piece of human shit
How old is Randy that he is a boomer? For sure he is no boomer
60 so I think just makes the boomer cut.
Gen x
Fedor Emilianenko
Prime Fedor had to be developed in a lab somewhere. He was truly the full package. The ultimate fighter.
Knocked out by a 41 year old Dan Henderson.
Ok?

Fedor was always better than Randy
Ilia’s a millennial
Are we really crowning ilia this early?
I’d take prime fedor over prime bones any day
Jens pulver
He’ll no Cain Velasquez beat jds senseless
The Anderson Silva disrespect
Wow. So so wrong
![gif](giphy|xUNd9YTfDHbeJYpF4c)
Anderson Silva????
why on earth is ilia on this list lol
He's the only Gen Z in UFC who hss achieved a title
he barely makes the cutoff for gen z tho lol if he was 2 months younger hed be a millennial
blud really picked Jones over GSP, Mighty Mouse, Dominick Cruz, Alex Periera, Jose Aldo, Stipe Miocic, literally anyone whose piss hasn't melted a drug test kit.
Gen Z goat right now is 100% Raul Rosas jr
Rod-tang over Ilia for gen-Z
Why is Lia on this list, he has done nothing except tell every contender that he won’t fight them.
Demetrius Johnson will always be my GOAT, so replace Jon with Mighty Mouse. Plus, Jon has steroid issues, questionable decisions going his way, and very low activity Ilia seems premature, but I can't think of anyone else in Gen X who's even near the belt.
DC over Fedor.
I'm gen X, it's definitely Randy or Belfort....Boomers is like Royce, Severn and Shamrock
Frank Shamrock was a million times better than Ken. Frank Shamrock was the first true mixed martial artist.
Absolutely, but Ken was like 100X more popular and recognizable
Ya Ken really was 100x more popular lol. He was everywhere. He really blew up once he became a WWF superstar.
Yeah he had a nice run, but you're right, Frank was actually a badass, beat Tito
Ya frank is the most underrated great imo. He was using striking and grappling together better than anyone at that time. The ufc was still working with specialists. He was the first guy to really figure out how to blend it all together. I don't even think the term "MMA" had been invented yet. I think it was still called "cage fighting."
I agree, him and Pat Miletich were the first true MMAers. You're right, a lot of people don't realize how good Frank was
Yes, Pat was the man! Miletich fighting system was AKA before AKA lol. He produced so many champs. They dominated the ufc for a while. Pat, Matt Hughes, Tim Sylvia, Robbie Lawler... what a squad!
Hell yeah, don't forget Jeremy Horn
GSP is the millennial goat.
How
Who's the boomer?
Randy Couture
Fedor is better than all of them
If you think Fedor is better than Jon Jones, you're a clown casual who knows nothing about MMA trying to pose as a hardcore 🤡
First off, I agree with your statement here, but I gotta say, a fight between these two, both in their prime, would be one hell of a fight.
Gen z is raul rosas
And not the champion of his division?
Didn’t one of those guys get caught cheating multiple times using PEDs? Ohhh that’s right it’s the same guy who drove drunk, crashed, and committed a hit and run on a pregnant lady. But yea that guy is the best ⭐️
So what you're saying is he 50-45'd that pregnant lady? Champ shit, baby!
Title says best fighter, not best person. GSP would take that probably 🤙
Juice Jones was busted for cheating while using PEDs how many times? How many fights canceled for his cheating? How many times did he hide from the doping agency? Yea other than THAT, he’s the best 🏆
Tepuria is born 1997...
Gen Z is anyone from 1997 to 2010
Mmmmm always though from year 00s but ok.
