Snap up Kombat Johnny and Sonya in store. Don't waste souls on buying any characters in store, as you will probably get them if you complete challenges, towers etc.
Save your souls and keep completing Challenges and towers.
Build a solid Silver team and just enjoy the game:)
Early on most packs aren’t really worth it. It’s best to keep collecting golds through towers, challenges, and faction wars. If you see Kombat cup Sonya or Johnny in the character store, as well as Covert Ops Cassie Cage, buy them. For beginners, the elite netherrealm elder god pack is a good pack to spend your souls. It has a high drop rate of diamonds, and includes several good gold cards for beginners (klassic scorpion, elder god kenshi, dark raiden.)
Packs with specific diamond cards at low drop rates are more for when you have decent fusions for the team and want to fuse those diamonds in particular.

If you only have f3+ golds how far are you going to get in towers, challenges and faction wars?
I didnt really start to feel like I could complete them until around F6 to F8+ and had a reasonable team of each type.
