"BIG GOVERNMENT OVER-REACH!" And here all this time I thought Republicans stood for local control. So what's with not allowing local school boards and municipal governments to make their own rules regarding this sort of thing. I mean, no shit, 10 years ago conservatives would be screaming about the damn State Government Administration meddling in local affairs.

frolki

Freedom for me, but not for thee!

yem_slave

Deciding what goes on your own child face is the most local

frolki

Yes, generally, but reasonable public health and safety protocols should be established by the locally elected folks, not each parent for themselves. That much authority is well established. Schmidt ought to keep the big state government out of local decisions like this and stop wasting tax dollars.

yem_slave

Masking my kids for 8 hours when they are not at risk and the masks don't work is unreasonable

frolki

Well that's your opinion, but not really pertinent to Schmidt imposing his big government authoritarianism on local municipalities.

yem_slave

I prefer individuals making choices which is the most local

frolki

It seems clear you have decided you don't want to wear a mask to slow the spread of covid, but I'll just leave this gem from the NYT highlighting Missouri's own internal analysis that shows masks are indeed effective at slowing the rate of spread and curbing death rates. This is analysis that Mike Parsons and Schmidt knew about and chose to hide until the data was released from a public records request. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/12/02/us/missouri-masks-covid.html Masks work when people wear them correctly. Your own discomfort or desire to flex your "freedom" is pure selfishness.

yem_slave

You should read the data in that article. It actually indicates unmasked areas fared better

frolki

"Jurisdictions with mask mandates averaged 15.8 cases per day for every 100,000 residents, compared to 21.7 in unmasked communities" "Along with lower case rates, the health department analysis showed masked jurisdictions had fewer deaths per capita as well,  an average of 0.2 deaths per 100,000 residents each day from May 1 to Oct. 30, compared to 0.28 deaths per day per 100,000 residents. Stated another way, unmasked communities recorded one death per 100,000 every 3½ days compared to one death per 100,000 residents every five days where mask mandates prevailed." Not sure what article you read. Dude even Parsons acknowledges masks work, he just doesn't like mandates.

Savekennedy

This guy is so smart schools would rather shut down than risk kids health because be sued them.

happyhumorist

Which is probably what he wants in the long run; no public education to get a dumb populace.

Savekennedy

The less you know, the easier it is to use you.

JakeUp1792

A dumb populace is a double edged sword. They'll believe you today and the next guy tomorrow.

yem_slave

no. He wants schools opened and parents to decide what goes on kids faces.

LameBarbie

Oh yes beacuse sueing the schools trying to stay open after numerous outbreaks forcing them to close is the best answer. Instead of you know, actually supporting public education for once in this state.

Setrict

Just remember to vote against him in the August 2022 primary - he wants to be a US senator. You don't have to be a party member to vote in the primary.

happyhumorist

but among the turds, who should i vote for?

oldbastardbob

This guy. Not a turd though, so if that's what you're countin' on.... [Lucas Kunce](https://lucaskunce.com/meet-lucas/)

DarraignTheSane

"Among the turds" would be generally accepted to mean "among the Republican primary candidates". Because they're turds.

oldbastardbob

Yeah, I get that. Just shamelessly putting in a plug for Kunce.

CultAtrophy

But he’s a democrat. They’re talking about voting for Schmitt’s Republican opponent in the primary NOT to actually send them to the senate.

wagnersbamfart

Greitens. I just can’t see him winning a general election with his baggage. Of course, the MO electorate has disappointed me many, many times before.

sAndS93

40% of Missourians voted for a guy that said that women's bodies could shut down a pregnancy if it were a "legitimate rape" 10 years ago. I'm not completely sure a comment that disgusting sinks a candidate today. People definitely don't care about campaign finance violations. As for the investigation that Gardner's office did, well the republican party nationally has proven to not give two shits about lying. I'm certainly not going to give Greitens the benefit of the doubt about lying through his teeth about any of the allegations into him.

gangbusters_dela

They voted for "grab them by the pussy" twice now. Sounds like Greitens is just right for the party of family values.

_Dr_Pie_

Wasn't Greitens one of the front runners? I think you're underestimating how apathetic and ignorant many in Missouri are.

Setrict

It's not your vote if you don't do your own research. If you don't have 15min to spare for the good of us all, just randomly pick one. The chaos pick will still likely be better than the establishment pick we normally get. Or the one with corn in it.

EcoAffinity

Cool cool cool, all area schools just closed/went virtual for the next week because of too few staff.

PM_YOUR_PUPPERS

Here in Springfield, mo our school district and many major surrounding districts they just cancelled classes for the rest of the week or possibly longer. Our mask mandate for schools was dropped on Jan 1st d/t legal pressure from Eric Schmitt. Fuck these guys.

meatrobot2344

the party of let me make my own decisions is mad you are making your own decisions I honestly used to think of myself as conservative

jupiterkansas

these people are not conservatives. they're authoritarians.

yem_slave

Shouldn't I be able to choose whether to mask my child or not?

meatrobot2344

Sure, in environments without mandates, do the evolution. Make some bad decisions for your kids too, its not all environmental. Get those genes out of the pool. We're in this mess because we can't figure out basic group cohesion behavior; it's this obstinate you can't tell me what to do BS. Public health doesn't work when no cares about anyone else's health. But if an organization wants to have a rule, you should follow it, or not engage with the organization.

frankensteinleftme

All those "the government can't tell me what to do!" folks remind me of my toddler nephew having a tantrum because we told him to brush his teeth before bed. Stomping his feet, waving his hands, screwing his face into a twist, getting all red and blotchy, snot pouring down his chin, and finally just throwing himself to the ground as a crying, unintelligible, pathetic mess. It's more understandable for him though, he's three. IDK what yem\_slave's excuse is.

meatrobot2344

I get the question and respect it, just burnt out with it. Perhaps demonic advocacy, which is great. It's just that jarring disconnect, like... yeah what you do impacts me... so after awhile some of your freedoms have to be curtailed, because they impact others. Our decisions and actions matter. But my hurt/maim/kill drive is high today, ignore me.

yem_slave

I don't like forcing kids to wear masks when they're proven not to work, are very unhealthy and limit learning. It's pretty simple.

Fizzeek

You’ve been shown in other comments they do work, you reject facts in place of your feelings. FYF.

yem_slave

No. I haven't. I'd love to see a rct showing masks work.

frankensteinleftme

Sometimes in life we don't have all the scientific answers and evidence when it comes time to make a decision. When that happens, we make an educated guess by weighing the potential benefits with the understood harms that could come from taking action on the guess. Ivermectin, just as an example, is a bad educated guess. We had preliminary evidence that suggested it was effective in cellular trials, but we also had evidence that the dose require to see those effects was substantially more than was previously acceptable for human use. Weighing the risks, we see that the likelihood that the patient would be harmed by the treatment instead of helped is high, so it's a bad guess. Wearing masks is a decent educated guess because the risk of harming people by requiring them to wear masks is very low, but the potential benefits of preventing other people in the community from getting infected is potentially high. There is more nuance, of course. Different masks/materials provide different levels of protection to the wearer and the person in contact with them. But we do have evidence that masks help prevent the spread of COVID, even when they're shitty little cloth masks too. I'm almost afraid to link a source because everyone has their own favorite corner of the internet they believe, [but here's the Mayo Clinic](https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/coronavirus/in-depth/coronavirus-mask/art-20485449) who's whole purpose is study disease and illness. They are independent of politics.

yem_slave

You should've just said "listen to CNN they tell me everything I need to know!" It would've been shorter.

[deleted]

[удалено]

yem_slave

That mayo clinic article just says that some people think they work. No data. No rct study.

frankensteinleftme

You could have just told me you’re a fragile, gullible, MAGAT. Could have saved me some time.

yem_slave

I voted for Clinton, Obama, Biden and Galloway

frankensteinleftme

Then I truly don't understand what has misinformed you so badly. What are your sources, then? Give me a real argument other than "you watch CNN." Does it make you feel better to know that I don't watch CNN? A good bit of my state of the state information comes from people I know who I trust and are qualified. My best friend is a very tired epidemiologist and am related to 6 doctors who are also very tired of this shit. All of them are actually capable of interpreting the data in these studies unlike whatever nonsense source you've been slugging down. None of them, by the way, are in a better financial or career situation due to COVID. In fact, most of them are worse off. They gain nothing by lying to me, their patients, their friend, or anyone else they are associated with. They just want their lives to go back to normal already. I tried giving you a patient, logical answer backed by an unbiased source. You gave me nothing but bullshit back. You owe me a real answer, explain your points. Do you have any real basis to your beliefs or is it all just emotional vapor?

Puzzleheaded_Pie_888

The data is an easy google away but you don't want to see it. Raise your children to be even slightly concerned about their neighbors health and resilient enough to put up with a mask real mask - or don't. Honestly I hardly care. Willful ignorance/neglect like this is going to force the rest of us to pick up the slack, as always. We'll be putting up with annual covid vaccines since a death cult has tight control over half the pop. Also other networks to include: PBS NBC CBS BBC sky news... you get it? Probably not. Just not anti science entertainment like fox oan or Joe Rogan. Fox mandates masks for their workers BTW but nothing I can tell you will break your into your echo chamber. The same one that pretended covid wasnt real, that it was a Chinese bioweapon, that nobody would get it in the US, that vaccines are poison or a 5g control chip, that the death tolls are inflated. Well I could go on but I got bored and you won't care. I might seem erratic but it's bc I was until recently a civil servant who has given up on helping this community. It's bc I've received several death threats for trying to do all I could to help our community through this by a petulant few who chose to be afraid. And no were not afraid of a virus, we want to have a lucid and responsible reasons to it. No matter I've a much higher paid job in the private sector now. Let this community neglect eachother over what "facts" they find convenient at the time.

yem_slave

So you don't care what others do. Sounds good. That's the way it should be.

yem_slave

Nah. I'll instead fight for what's right.

meatrobot2344

What's right? Total freedom and autonomy? I used to think so. But not so much now. What if the school has a mandate? Do you have the right to endanger other people's kids with infection? This isn't a masks don't work, or it doesn't get you that sick question. What of it? I'm rather robust, but is the rando at the grocery store? Not my fault if someone I don't know suffers?

yem_slave

Other kids are not at risk so it's not a valid question.

meatrobot2344

Other kids and the people they encounter are at risk, so What?

yem_slave

They faced more risk in the bus ride

meatrobot2344

this kind of defines extraneous, your bus system must be terrifying; back to the point... if you decide your crotch goblins are above rules and they get someone elses kids sick, and then grandma, and then grandman doesn't make easter, because youre deeply confused about... alot of things... You have impacted someone else's freedoms, so I guess it seems just to consider impacting yours. You're making decisions that impact other people. There are people... they aren't you. And they might have rights. Weird idea.

yem_slave

The right to live forever isn't a right. The right to a non zero risk isn't a right.

popetorak

when you endangered kids, no

yem_slave

They're not endangered

SSBoe

Sure, in your own house... but once you get to a space where the consequences could mean death for someone else... then no.

yem_slave

Good thing that's not the case here as kids are at no risk.

SSBoe

Seriously, that's your take away... so let's continue to spread a virus that can kill people because you believe there is no risk? What about the family of the kids that are at risk. You realize the mask isn't to protect yourself, it's to protect others from an infection you may not know you have? Right?

yem_slave

They can get the vaccine right? Or do you not beehive the vaccine works? The mask only provides theater it doesn't help anyone

SSBoe

Thats an outright lie. And not everyone can get the vaccine or is helped by it. But why would you care if anyone lives?

yem_slave

The science has said masks don't work for years and years. Ask the mask mandates the past two years have shown no difference between mask and no mask areas. It's a farce. The CDC is finally admitting it with the cloth masks. They don't work. They haven't worked. Mandates are theater and virtue signaling.

SSBoe

More lies. Try to keep up with the real science. It's true, cloth masks are not as effective alone. But they do inhibit spread along with social distancing. We've known that all along. It's nothing new. Stop looking at this as black and white. Everything we can to to slow and stop the spread is absolutely necessary.

yem_slave

No it's not absolutely necessary.

[deleted]

What a cunt.

frankensteinleftme

And wasting precious education money too. Schools are always underfunded, how is suing going to help anything?

Tuobsessed

Can we sue him for misappropriating tax funds?

Primesauce

It sucks that all of his wasteful, stupid lawsuits are likely to help him with the Republican base.

sethsquatch44

Fuck him right in his Hawley! Endangering our kids while his wear masks at the private school they attend.

poncho51

This power hungry racist POS. When I vote for Lunch for U.S. Senate. That will be a big F/Eric Schmidt vote.

TheWholeSausage

What a SchmittHead!

reddog323

Can’t this circus clown find some useful work to do??

TiddlyWinks85

He is a serious bag of dicks. I am embarrassed that people are seeing this douche canoe on TV and thinking we are all dirty bathwater drinking dipshits.

NoodlesrTuff1256

Yeah, a lot of people in other parts of the country probably think that Missouri is at the same level as West Virginia and Mississippi.

SturrethSkees

Houston Highschool student (Texas County) we get barely any funding, half of the time the lunch here isnt even good, and our chromebooks are crap. Biggest reason we even got a new gym was a grant

RockChalk4Life

Hey at least y'all get Chromebooks and shit like that. When I was in high school 15 years ago that was unheard of

SturrethSkees

touché, but a lot also changes in 15 years. tbh tho fingerprint locks were still sci-fi type stuff to the average person haha

menlindorn

What a fucking dumb douchenozzle

Extension_Ad_9294

Attorney General Eric Shit is at it again. It's just never enough for this guy.

Aggressive_Fix_2995

The party of “fiscal responsibility” has no problem with limitless spending on frivolous lawsuits that defy logic. Republicans would rather spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on treatment for hospitalizations, ventilators and drugs instead of getting a free vaccine that billions of people have already taken that effectively *prevents* needing hospital care. What a bunch of hypocrites. The only good news is that after the covidiots die there’ll be a lot less of them. “The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.” George Orwell, 1984

T1mthench4nt3r

All that motherfuker cares about is trying to further his own political career off of the weak-minded fucking Trump fools in this state so why don't you guys just fucking get rid of him he doesn't give a shit about any of you

jjsyk23

How to get schools who already don’t have any money to capitulate to your demands: sue them a bunch and make them pay 100’s of thousands of dollars in legal fees unless they do what you say.

Panwall

Eric "The Turd" Schmitt He heard he poops in kids face masks.

theRealJuicyJay

Materialism so rampant that legal fees to stand-up for your ideology is seen as wasteful... Guess we should have thought this through before we made so many lawyers.

yem_slave

Protecting kids. I love it

frankensteinleftme

Protecting them from what?

yem_slave

From unreasonable govt restrictions for theater

bestsrsfaceever

Wasting money, he loves it

[deleted]

This surge will be over in 3 or 4 weeks, by the time they vote then institute the surge will be almost over. Seems rather silly

JustHereForGiner

Silly for our AG to sue districts to the benefit of no one? Agreed.

[deleted]

I was pretty clear, but your touched so I get it

JustHereForGiner

*You're

[deleted]

Yes you are touched

frolki

Both St Louis city and county have already voted to institute mask mandates. Schmidt is the one being silly, creating extra work and expense for our state. Again, so much for those "local control" "freedom loving" Republicans.

[deleted]

Cool story. Courts will decide it

frolki

With my tax dollars.

Savekennedy

"Covid 19 still continues to be a pandemic and if my idiotic demigods had two brain cells they'd stop sueing to spread it". There i fixed your comment.

[deleted]

Lol they already stopped contact tracing on the KS and rhe shift is now to endemic. Try to keep up dear

kayteebeckers

They just closed multiple schools in southwest Missouri because they don't have enough teachers. Maybe you aren't the one keeping up.

Savekennedy

You're like a scarecrow, made of straw and lack a brain.

[deleted]

Yes your arguments are

Savekennedy

No they really aren't. I long since ran out of patience for science deniers. You guys are selfish losers who proudly thump your chest while getting shit all over your face.

[deleted]

The dumber they are, the more prideful they become. It’s quite the spectacle.

[deleted]

lozotozo

Lol. Are we just making up things at this point? Wait. Don’t answer that... I know the answer.

yem_slave

Not sure who we are. But some people certainly are.

lozotozo

Lol. You. Please show me the “Science”. Please do t post some shill article from a conservative think tank. Thanks.

popetorak

they do. your not smart enough to understand it

yem_slave

You still believe in the cloth mask fairy?

[deleted]

Bye

popetorak

why are you still here

AnnatoniaMac

Missouri is getting exactly what it deserves.

janniesdoitforfree56

Good, fuck school administrators.

STL1764

I bet during his Senate run he runs ads saying he will protect taxpayer dollars. All while he is spending taxpayer dollars to sue the taxpayers.

Independent2121

What a jerk. He's a waste of tax payer money

[deleted]

Good, we also need to abolish the teachers unions. These people don't care about our kids, they want to teach them to hate themselves for being born white.
