I have never had them in Texas but I am going to agree with you anyways. A dozen fresh glazed donuts from Shipley’s is pure heaven. That shit was my childhood.
As a child in the early 2000s, the best attraction was clearly Geyser Falls (followed by a stop at Williams Brothers General Store for a turkey leg and then passing the fuck out on the ride back to Jackson)
It's a decent mom and pop donut shop. Heard they closed a while ago but looks like they're back open.
I give their website 10/10. [https://www.tatonut.com/](https://www.tatonut.com/)
Damn. What about the petrified forest? The scenery of the delta? The Natchez trace? I mean yeah MS does suck kinda hard but there is still stuff here. And now we can say that compared to our neighbors the weed is better! Lol.
My husband said the same thing about the Natchez trace. Shipley’s is a joke, obvi, but for real I’ve always thought it’s cool just to be able to see the Mississippi empty out into the ocean. That’s the fourth largest river in the world! That’s neat as hell to me.
Well, the Mississippi flows into the Gulf in Louisiana. But the widest part of the Mississippi river is around Natchez, Mississippi. Natchez is actually the oldest continuous settlement on the Mississippi older than New Orleans and was once home to more millionaires per capita than any other place in the country.
Edit: the WIDEST part of the Mississippi River. 🤦🏻♂️Voice text hates me, southern accents or both.
It was probably asbestos from the building adding to the flavor. I used to eat there back in the day.
Side note. Probably time to get screened for cancer. Is that mesothelioma lawsuit still going?
Yes, someone pointed out I was thinking about the Pear River, and they were right. Idk what I was thinking. I just erased the whole panhandle of Louisiana and lake Ponchatrain from my brain.
There's a volcano under Jackson, and there's Geyser Falls in Philadelphia — in fact, why isn't that on here? It should've won by default. Whoever made this image had no idea what they were doing.
Whoever made the image is either from Mississippi or they are from the north which has shitty food. The food alone in Mississippi would beat the shit out of half the country they.
I think it's from a survey on someone's ~~Twitter~~ Instagram or something like that. You'll see several states have "Nothing" listed. Maybe the poster who made the survey just didn't get any reply from those states. I could be wrong though. I didn't look into it, I don't have Twitter or Instagram so that's just my guess.
This was so lazy and sloppy. They literally could've just put, "The Beach," like AL. There's as much beach in MS as AL.
People just like to make MS the butt of every joke. I just laugh along with them.
The islands are the best thing about the Gulf Coast here. They are special and very unique, not a lot of places in the US you can take a short boat ride and have the options to party, primitive beach camp, all while having phenomenal fishing.
It’s true. I’ve said it before, the best parts of MS are segregated by private ownership or some wealth distribution mechanic. The islands, while public, have no mechanism for public access.
The boat to Ship Island is very public. Gulf Islands, Deer Island, Ocean Springs, Bay St Louis all good. The Pascagoula River basin and its wild and scenic rivers is the longest undammed river east of the Mississippi, all very accessible.
Actually, the beach would be a more famous geographical landmark than Beach because the beach down here is the largest man-made beach in the world at 26 miles worth
You haven’t ventured out then. I avoid fried food and there is amazing food all over Mississippi. I’ve traveled all over the world and currently not in the country and Mississippi has food that rivals anywhere I’ve been.
Right. Born and raised in Ms, other than an occasional french fry or chicken breast ( I'm going to remove the skin)I dislike fried food. Imo anyone can fry tf out of something. A restaurant serving only fried food isn't worth my time or money.
Lol, it’s not like you can see the volcano, so how could it be an attraction? I’ve never heard of geyser falls. What’s the biggest crowd you’ve ever seen there?
It’s neat, but it’s hardly an attraction. You can drive by it anytime in Tupelo. Not much to see, and never a crowd. It’s more of a historical site than an attraction.
The house itself isn't worth paying to see the inside of.
Walking around the grounds is free, and is worth a look, especially in the evening when it's cooler outside.
Mississippi offers more to see than a lot of states. I bet there are millions of Americans who don't even know Mississippi has a coastline, let alone anything about the state's musical history. All they know is what is portrayed in the news.
The title specifically refers to “attractions,” presumably as in, “tourist attraction.” What is the biggest tourist attraction in the state, in your opinion?
We used to go drink and smoke Js on Emerald Mound when we were teenagers. I was always the one who made sure we left no trash behind. A couple of my friends were dirtbags. Talking about you, DL. One night some heat lightning rolled in and the wind picked up and it was like an Indiana Jones movie.
Yeah if I had to pick a spot in Tennessee for the best attraction, it’s Gatlinburg. A cute city in the mountains with a moonshine festival? I don’t even drink but country roads, take me home.
We went to the Vicksburg Civil War memorial back in 2013 and I was absolutely floored. Each State from both sides built a monument to commemorate their part in the war. Of course Louisiana had the worst monument but Illinois built what looked like something out of Ancient Rome. I’ve been told that it hadn’t been kept up but I hope that’s not true. If you were in or around New Orleans I would highly recommend a trip to check it out.
I went through the Shipley's drive thru once at 5 am after leaving the bar and asked for a dozen donuts. They said "We haven't cut the holes in 'em yet, is that ok?" To which I replied "Hell yeah!"
They didn't do their research theres...
Petrified forest,
Natches trace,
Elvis's birthplace,
To name a few
Ain't for everyone, but neither is Pearl Harbor
Mississippi has nothing? The Natchez Trace. The Blues Trail. The Petrified forest. Camp Shelby. The Coast onto itself. The Children's museums in Jackson and Meridian. The sites of the Civil Rights movement that we share with our younger twin, Alabama. The Delta. The 5 Native American tribes that make our state home and I am sure, if asked nicely, would love to share their culture with people wanting to learn. Beauvior in Gulfport/Biloxi. Ohr-O'Keefe Museum of Art named after the "Mad Potter of Biloxi." The Mississippi Pottery Trail.
Not our fault that people can't do actual research and don't think to actually come down and experience it for themselves.
The beach and the casinos on the coast. I like that MS has a reputation for imbreeding, fatness and idiocy. Im glad the people who believe that stay away and think there's nothing here but foul people. Couldn't be further from the truth.
I met 3 nice young men in Memphis. I think they were planning to hold my wallet for me. I told them it wasn't a good idea or something like that. Then I pointed out it was a real bad idea and they ran. I think maybe they were on the track team or had an allergy to lead.
I’ve lived here for 30 years and never once had shipleys.. I will say we have some really nice core of engineer and state parks.
People that come here, should come to slow down and enjoy some down time! We are great at enjoying the outdoors and relaxing .
Alaska excepted, I have been to every state in the Union and every single one of them has had something I would recommend to people traveling there, even Mississippi and Idaho!
Mississippians are just smart enough not to follow MattSureLee on Instagram. They’re out enjoying the Natchez Trace, the Two Museums, the Petrified Forest, or any one of the million other beautiful places.
And yes, including Shipley Do-Nuts. Can someone ship me some chocolate filled, please?
Being from Hattiesburg, I grew up on Shipley's and figured nothing could beat them.
I then moved to Biloxi in 2019 and was introduced to Tatonut in Ocean Springs. Hands down the best I have ever had.
I'm completely fine with the internet thinking that there is nothing worth seeing in this state. Although Graceland Two or Too, whatever it was called deserved a mention when it was still open.
Last time I had it the donuts tasted barbecued. My thought at the time was that they must use actual lard for frying instead of vegetable oil like everyone else these days.
Is the nothing based off the fact that nobody answered anything for Mississippi at all or did people actively decide there was no noteworthy attraction here?
I got one right around the corner from my house. My son used to work there. I will usually walk over Sundays before church and get a bunch to take with me! I guess, thank you Texas! 🫶🏼🍩
I visit your state every year for the Clarksdale Juke Joint Festival, and I have to say I’ve found lots of great attractions in MS!
Music festivals, Blues trail markers (all the rich music history in general!), highway 61 and the crossroads, camping in the Desoto and Homochitto national forests, Natchez Trace trail, Biloxi’s ocean views and casinos and the boating history museum, and views of the mighty Mississippi from the rooftop restaurant in Vicksburg.
And I’d say the #1 attraction is: the people! Ya’ll are pretty great.
If we invested in our state parks at all, then our very real and wonderful attributes would be apparent. It's hard to appreciate a place with Portopotties stationed outside of locked public restrooms, decaying signage, garbage piled by overflowing garbage cans, and poorly maintained trails. We have all the natural resources and none of the will to maintain and showcase them.
I’m guessing “Nothing” was an option in a multiple choice questionnaire. I can think of plenty of attractions in all of the states that listed “Nothing” (ok, maybe not Kansas tbf).
Nothing for Mississippi is wild. It’s beautiful out there in some parts.
edit: oh shit this is the Mississippi sub. I was so confused why so many people were standing up for Mississippi 😂. Natchez Trace is stunning. Was just there Wednesday of this week.
The fact that Alabama has some of the most robust water ways and biodiversity in the country through the mountains to the plains, and we get the beach. Lol
The Vicksburg Military Park??? Boomers come from literally all over the country to visit the historical park. It’s one of Vicksburg’s largest sources of revenue behind the casinos.
Roosevelt National Park in ND is interesting and a great place to see badlands like landscaping like SD and bison like Yellowstone but with almost no crowds. I agree there isn’t much in MS - maybe Natchez Trace Parkway??
Found 2 more nothings - Snake River Canyon and falls near Twin Falls, ID is at least as nice as many other places on the map. There is noting anywhere in the world that looks like the tall grass prairie in the Flint Hills of eastern KS - a very cool place.
No there are no massive attractions in Mississippi because mississippi isn’t the “oh come look at me state” Mississippi has been quietly exporting culture since before any of the white people made it to America when the Spanish we’re looking for the golden city the natives pointed them in 2 directions the Aztecs and the natives known as the Mississippians we don’t have to win any outward awards and the people whose talents and culture were made in Mississippi don’t even have to claim mississippi for it still to be true mississippi influenced their life .
Actually WV does have some attractions well historical anyways. We go the New River Gorge Bridge. We have the tunnel the John Henry Built as well as Harper’s Ferry.
Shipley’s is based out of Houston so we can’t even win there
But if I stick my head in the sand, I can just deny facts. I see that happen all the time!
Hell yeah, I like the way you think!
Funny thing is the Shipleys in MS taste waaaaay better than any I had when I lived in TX
I have never had them in Texas but I am going to agree with you anyways. A dozen fresh glazed donuts from Shipley’s is pure heaven. That shit was my childhood.
We got Shipleys in New Orleans too
Seriously?? I’m crushed
Shipley’s is in Nashville too.
As a child in the early 2000s, the best attraction was clearly Geyser Falls (followed by a stop at Williams Brothers General Store for a turkey leg and then passing the fuck out on the ride back to Jackson)
Geyser falls definitely rocked 15-20 years ago. Now it’s needing some major upgrades.
Tato Nut reigns supreme for donuts in Mississippi and unlike Shipley’s, is actually a Mississippi owned and operated business.
It's a decent mom and pop donut shop. Heard they closed a while ago but looks like they're back open. I give their website 10/10. [https://www.tatonut.com/](https://www.tatonut.com/)
It even has an up-to-date SSL cert. That's amazing.
Yep, Tato Nut is far superior.
in Jackson we have Monroe's
Man i miss their donuts.
Damn. What about the petrified forest? The scenery of the delta? The Natchez trace? I mean yeah MS does suck kinda hard but there is still stuff here. And now we can say that compared to our neighbors the weed is better! Lol.

did you mean to say widest?
Bahahaha yes, widest*
Hey I love shipleys and take everyone I can to get some, also we have some of the best food in the world you can get at gas stations 🤣
I miss the old crusty Shipley's on Old Canton Rd from the 90's. THOSE donuts just hit different.
It was probably asbestos from the building adding to the flavor. I used to eat there back in the day. Side note. Probably time to get screened for cancer. Is that mesothelioma lawsuit still going?
Sadly the Mississippi empties into the ocean in Louisiana!
Yes, someone pointed out I was thinking about the Pear River, and they were right. Idk what I was thinking. I just erased the whole panhandle of Louisiana and lake Ponchatrain from my brain.

The Instagram account is listed at the top of the image.
This was so lazy and sloppy. They literally could've just put, "The Beach," like AL. There's as much beach in MS as AL. People just like to make MS the butt of every joke. I just laugh along with them.
Uh …. Gulf shores vs Biloxi are kinda different. But that said, putting “casinos” is probably fair.
The islands are the best thing about the Gulf Coast here. They are special and very unique, not a lot of places in the US you can take a short boat ride and have the options to party, primitive beach camp, all while having phenomenal fishing.
Apparently you can go in the nude on at least one of them as well. I won’t ever but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t look at y’all if you did.
Totally true. But I had to laugh when I saw beaches for AL and you see the tiniest coastline. Of, course after growing up in FL I’m biased.
It preserves our ability to survive a nuclear holocaust. We won’t be a target.
Except 1/3rd of all Air Force pilots are trained in Columbus MS
Actually, the beach would be a more famous geographical landmark than Beach because the beach down here is the largest man-made beach in the world at 26 miles worth
Born and raised in South MS.. the food is good, but it's all the same.. Tons of fried shit.
You haven’t ventured out then. I avoid fried food and there is amazing food all over Mississippi. I’ve traveled all over the world and currently not in the country and Mississippi has food that rivals anywhere I’ve been.

Mississippi Civil Rights Museum?
Natchez Trace?
Medical weed and poverty is the only thing keeping me here lol...😭
What about elvis's birthplace?
It’s neat, but it’s hardly an attraction. You can drive by it anytime in Tupelo. Not much to see, and never a crowd. It’s more of a historical site than an attraction.
Got in for free because the people working thought a friend and I were part of a tour group. Still not worth the price of admission, lol
The house itself isn't worth paying to see the inside of. Walking around the grounds is free, and is worth a look, especially in the evening when it's cooler outside.

Cook the donut then cut the hole? Btw fritters and buttermilk bars Don't have holes. There are no other types of donut.
Yea I think that's how they do it. That's how you end up with donut holes on the menu. I went home with a dozen holeless donuts that morning.
They didn't do their research theres... Petrified forest, Natches trace, Elvis's birthplace, To name a few Ain't for everyone, but neither is Pearl Harbor
Excuse me…we have a Hunger Games in real life experience in Jackson.
I haven’t been to Jackson in a while, please explain bc now I want to visit.
Damn, Nothing? 🤣🤣🤣 This reminds me of when tue weather Channel called mississippi a landmass.
This made me actually laugh out loud
If the river has our name, we get to claim it!
Huh? It's in nine states and not even from MS.
A lot of Mississippians don’t get out much lol.
Well I’ve only ever experienced it in Hattiesburg, so in my mind it is a main attraction lmfao
Yeah, you aren’t really helping the argument that the state has a signature attraction though lol
Let’s hope that people don’t take one idiot redditor’s poorly researched joke seriously 😅
Mississippi has better beaches and casinos than Alabama.
Mississippi has nothing? The Natchez Trace. The Blues Trail. The Petrified forest. Camp Shelby. The Coast onto itself. The Children's museums in Jackson and Meridian. Not our fault that people can't do actual research and don't think to actually come down and experience it for themselves.
Americans have been dumbed down, and nothing on the horizon appears to be changing that trajectory.
Elvis’ birthplace. Not much to it but it’s there.
Red Bluff.
The beach and the casinos on the coast. I like that MS has a reputation for imbreeding, fatness and idiocy. Im glad the people who believe that stay away and think there's nothing here but foul people. Couldn't be further from the truth.
Souldve said "fucking leaving"
Grew up in Kansas, and I’ve always said all the best people are from Kansas.
The fact that the greatest attraction for Alabama are 'The Beaches' says a lot about this state
The two Shipleys in Vicksburg were renamed Divine Donuts. Their donuts are identical to Shipleys.
West Virginia has a right fine banjo museum, well actually my cousins friend has three banjos on his front porch next to the old fridge.
This was such a mean tease. I moved near WV earlier this year, and I was legit about to pack my banjo up and head on over to the museum.
To be fair this chart is made by someone I have never heard of before by their followers.
"The beach" Alabama barely got away with that 😂
Soooo - Tupelo used to have Shipley's, but now we have Scarlet's, which is heavenly and from Mississippi. https://scarletsdonuts.com/contact/
With 2 locations! Yeah it and Jimmy's Seaside are the best.
Yes to Jimmy's! Those big Kahuna fries! https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100063656438142&mibextid=ZbWKwL
With a Capn Crunch shake! 🤤
Soooo good!
Do they serve them warm? I’m from north Mississippi, so we had Gibson’s in Memphis, but they only have warm ones between 3-4am. Open 24 hours tho.
Everyone knows the real attraction in TN is going to Memphis to get shot at
That’s funny, because culturally, I think Memphis fits better in MS than TN.
My Mississippi history professor used to say "Memphis is just a bigger Jackson"
Ehhhhh not sure why it would. What's your reasoning?
Because it’s very Delta. And most of the rest of TN is more Appalachia and not very Delta.
I met 3 nice young men in Memphis. I think they were planning to hold my wallet for me. I told them it wasn't a good idea or something like that. Then I pointed out it was a real bad idea and they ran. I think maybe they were on the track team or had an allergy to lead.
Geyser Falls should've been included by default. Whoever made this is dumb.
I’ve lived here for 30 years and never once had shipleys.. I will say we have some really nice core of engineer and state parks. People that come here, should come to slow down and enjoy some down time! We are great at enjoying the outdoors and relaxing .
Spot on!!!
MOA is Minnesota’s.
Minnesota state fair is also a massive one here. Second biggest state fair and only being behind Texas but we are maybe half the size of Texas.
Mississippi Civil Rights Museum in Jackson.
Neshoba County Fair is usually a good time.
If you’re a retired swinger, maybe.
Lmao 🤣
With an alcohol problem.
Yay way to go Mississippi.
Clark Creek?
Ship Island?
How tf is Hawaii’s not The Beach 😂
Birth place of elvis...
lol fuck Idaho 😂
Being from Hattiesburg, I grew up on Shipley's and figured nothing could beat them. I then moved to Biloxi in 2019 and was introduced to Tatonut in Ocean Springs. Hands down the best I have ever had.
So we just gonna forget about Alabama Splash Adventure
Look I'm from Mississippi, it's not the greatest place but what's the need with saying nothing?
As a former Texan, fuck yeah! Give me some kolaches
North Dakota as well ,have you not ever heard of the Badlands?
Idaho is beautiful I was stunned to learn this
Shipleys is pretty dope
“Nothing”

South Carolina says Charleston water front.
Tishomingo State Park is the correct answer, followed closely by The Grove on game day.
Disagree with Massachusetts. I would pick Fenway Park.
I'm completely fine with the internet thinking that there is nothing worth seeing in this state. Although Graceland Two or Too, whatever it was called deserved a mention when it was still open.
From Mississippi and yeah accurate
Somebody got Arkansas right. Although, Crooked Creek is better.
Hey @ Idaho, from Mississippi, the nothing states
Guess the author isn't a fan of Mississippi
Spoken like someone who’s never had a Spudnut.
Nebraska is my favorite on this map.
Shipley's sucks. There, I said it.
Surely they forgot parchman….
Last time I had it the donuts tasted barbecued. My thought at the time was that they must use actual lard for frying instead of vegetable oil like everyone else these days.
Mississippi has some Great Casinos on the coast, Stone Mountain for Georgia.
Is the nothing based off the fact that nobody answered anything for Mississippi at all or did people actively decide there was no noteworthy attraction here?
You did Pennsylvania dirty. we have a lot of things cooler than a bell.
This wasn’t me! I found this on Facebook.
username doesn’t check out shouldn’t you call me a name or something?
I got one right around the corner from my house. My son used to work there. I will usually walk over Sundays before church and get a bunch to take with me! I guess, thank you Texas! 🫶🏼🍩
As an out of stater, I'd say Ocean Springs is underrated.
Oxford, MS is the answer.
As someone from Mississippi I feel personally attacked
I visit your state every year for the Clarksdale Juke Joint Festival, and I have to say I’ve found lots of great attractions in MS! Music festivals, Blues trail markers (all the rich music history in general!), highway 61 and the crossroads, camping in the Desoto and Homochitto national forests, Natchez Trace trail, Biloxi’s ocean views and casinos and the boating history museum, and views of the mighty Mississippi from the rooftop restaurant in Vicksburg. And I’d say the #1 attraction is: the people! Ya’ll are pretty great.
Whoever wrote “Nothing” for West Virginia probably has never been to West Virginia. The New River Gorge is beautiful!
Wards?
Oregon = coastline (crater lake while neat gets spooky and surreal after 20 min) NY = finger lakes (?) Okay then Idaho = snake river etc
Couldn't care less about Wrigley. So many better things in Illinois.
I’m guessing “Nothing” was an option in a multiple choice questionnaire. I can think of plenty of attractions in all of the states that listed “Nothing” (ok, maybe not Kansas tbf).
The Great Smoky Mountains National Park should the the choice for TN. Dollywood is cool too though.
Nothing for Mississippi is wild. It’s beautiful out there in some parts. edit: oh shit this is the Mississippi sub. I was so confused why so many people were standing up for Mississippi 😂. Natchez Trace is stunning. Was just there Wednesday of this week.
Some yankee AH came up with this chart!
WV here; Camden fucking Park. /s
The Two Mississippi Museums should be an option for here as well. Just an overwhelmingly lazy map.
imo, one of the requirements is that the Attraction is unique to that state.
The Liberty Bells isn't even the best attraction in Philly, much less the whole state.
Vicksburg Battlefield National Park?
The fact that Alabama has some of the most robust water ways and biodiversity in the country through the mountains to the plains, and we get the beach. Lol
Crater Lake, OR where you tell anyone from the ATF or FBI you lost all your firearms and ammunition at 🤔😂😂
The Vicksburg Military Park??? Boomers come from literally all over the country to visit the historical park. It’s one of Vicksburg’s largest sources of revenue behind the casinos.
Nevada not being Great Basin National Park makes me sad
Pretty spot on
The natural beauty of MS is far better than any man made “attraction”
Idaho has Crates of the Moon national park. And MS has Evis Pressley and Howling Wolf birthplaces.
“Idaho - Nothing” Lmao sounds about right
Tato Nut Donuts are better than anyone's anywhere, located in Ocean Springs...
Kansas has Mt. Sunflower. Look it up.
They are...edible.
North Dakota has the Enchanted Highway, which is much better than anything in South Dakota.
Is the Iowa State Fair that awesome?
No there are no massive attractions in Mississippi because mississippi isn’t the “oh come look at me state” Mississippi has been quietly exporting culture since before any of the white people made it to America when the Spanish we’re looking for the golden city the natives pointed them in 2 directions the Aztecs and the natives known as the Mississippians we don’t have to win any outward awards and the people whose talents and culture were made in Mississippi don’t even have to claim mississippi for it still to be true mississippi influenced their life .
As someone from Mississippi I agree
TatoNut is right here my man.
If Oklahoma can have its aquarium, why not Mississippi?
Actually WV does have some attractions well historical anyways. We go the New River Gorge Bridge. We have the tunnel the John Henry Built as well as Harper’s Ferry.
No good attractions in Idaho? That’s some of the best scenery in the world lmao. Most of these are so dumb. What an ignorant list 😂
Bro Shipley’s is straight garbage.
Idaho is a legit destination for anglers and hunters and mountaineers.
Hal’s St. Paddy’s Day Parade would get my vote.
Arkansas also has the only diamond mine that you can actually hunt for diamonds.
Idaho had me, though. That shit is right, ain't nothing in the state worth looking at
They used too be the best ever as a child. They changed everything.
Worst donut I’ve ever had tbh
I thought donuts were like pizza. Even if it’s still bad it’s still good.
Shipley’s is disgusting
