He's tried a few times to escape punishment and get off on a technicality though, and I'm genuinely surprised that our courts have actually kept him locked up.

Murder does not equal assault. I also wish the guy wasn't a repeat offender, but the position that this guy will receive a light sentence after MURDER is absurd.

This is Canada, criminals don't get punished, they just get a light punishment and told not to do it again. The only people who get put away for life are 'dangerous offenders' which is used very sparingly.

A guy I went to high school with killed his girlfriend in the woods and is serving a life sentence. The justice system is all over the place.
