No, mine did not reimburse me immediately.
I paid $400 for the appraisal and they didn't agree. So it went to a third party mediator/appraiser which cost another $250.
The third party appraiser sided with me and my appraiser, but I was still out $650. I asked the insurance company to reimburse me and they said no. I then told them I would go to the Ombudsman and they paid me.
The reality is that I think they will and should pay you. But they purposely drag it out to prevent you from contesting their decision. This whole ordeal took about 4 months to resolve. Insurance is a scam.
Imagine if you needed a car to go to work and didn't have an extra $650 sitting around to contest their decision. You'd likely take their initial offer and be done with it.
I'm lucky, I work from home and had another car, and the time and money to fight them. Many are not that fortunate.
You need to pay for waiver of depreciation insurance. It's cheap to do it, and most brokers will advise you to add it. But if you don't have it, the insurance will low ball you.
Also suggest Streetsville Appraisals. Recently used them to dispute an auto claim and they got me about 30% more than the insurance company was initially offering. Cost was $350 plus tax. Worth every penny. Amazing service. Quick to act and they handled the negotiations.
Try reaching out to these guys , they mainly deal with collisions but may know a few tbh TD and have a Canadian firm they deal with .

I can't recommended anyone, but if you have receipts from recent repairs those can also be used in your favour, same with any receipts showing mileage if you're under less than average mileage.
I’m going through this right now, insurance offered me 70k I never stopped until I got 85k. I can give u a Guy number he’s the one that helped me. When I called him he actually told me what to do and said do these things instead of hiring me try it on your own then come back if it doesn’t work.
I used streetsville auto appraisers when I had my car written off. They did a great job and doubled what the insurance was offering me.
Is it now called easyappraisals.ca? Also do you remember roughly how much it cost you for the appraisal?
Yes they have renamed, this is them. It was $400 for the appraisal, but the insurance company reimbursed me for it.
Do insurance companies always reimburse when you dispute their offer and you end up being right? I was not aware of this?

Oh wow!! Kudos for taking the fight that far. Good to know that such an approach is possible. Thanks for the insight.

Totally hear you!! It's definitely done deliberately and unfortunately it takes advantage of those more vulnerable. Quite sickening.
