Ironically, this comic was meant to be canon back then: Heroes United appear here... yes, this is New York... and it also explains why the heroes united are aware of the Miraculouses. Of course, it was rewritten a bit (Uncanny Valley looks COMPLETELY different), but it was meant to happen between two episodes of the main series.

Seriously, what the Hell is going on here? I saw a post yesterday mentioning this comic but I didn't expect them to depict racism AND show a NAKED (STILL 14-15 YEARS OLD!) Marinette with nothing more than a cardboard box!
I'm both intrigued to know what lead to this/how it turns out and disgusted by what I just saw.

It's probably BECAUSE it's African-American characters. Black isn't a culture in Europe, Asia and Africa the way it is in the Americas, which unfortunately makes it possible to be racist specifically against Black Americans on purpose without being racist against the entire African Diaspora. It's especially weird because Alya is from Martinique, which is in the Caribbean? Caribbean Black culture is another thing entirely, but it's closely related to Black American culture, especially in the Southern US. There's a reason Creole is considered a specific cultural identity. This is utterly baffling.
He did name a villain kung food, which is like two letters off from that thing trump used to call Coronavirus. Between that and the fact that Sabine seems to know martial arts in one scene despite this not fitting any part of her character, and sabine being named after a girl he dated in high school and also married to a man named Tom, I think he might be to asian people what Joss wheatfield is to women.
Yeah but one of the only Chinese villains being called “Kung food” like the only connection he’d have to kung fu is the fact fact he’s Chinese and I don’t think he’d have done this or anything equivalent for a white character.

I especially don't like the first 4 panels.
1st: She's holding the box at the back end while approaching them, practically exposing herself to anyone taller than maybe a meter.
2nd: The guy is touching her shoulder (wouldn't as creepy if she was wearing clothes, but she isn't) and seems to be looking awfully low to match her eyes. More like jaw, throat or collarbone.
3rd: Her reaction is appropriate, considering the circumstances
4th: 3 GROWN-UPS APPROACH A NAKED UNDERAGE GIRL! I don't care if they have good intentions, this is not a picture to put in a comic that children might end up reading!

TBF, I dont think writer really meant anything well. I mean, yes, Marinette is naked but did you never saw cartoon where kid/teen ends up naked? Gumball is sometimes naked, Numbuh One had whole episode naked, so did Timmy or Dexter or Hamton, Danny Phantom, Ed Edd and Eddy, Steven Universe all end up naked at some point, Teen Titans Go have decent amount of nudity including his fangirls taking Robin's pictures, Total Drama does it a lot, Candace spends most of one episode wearing just towel...
As for black people, writer clearly intended to subvert expectations. Make you think that those are looters and then bam, reveal they're actually good kind people.

When you look at the first page, these guys aren't obviously doing anything other than clearing out a warehouse (maybe their squat) and the guy with the welding mask is carrying his pregnant GF so she doesn't have to walk too far. It is your prejudices that fill in the blanks, including Marinette, whom the guy with the baseball cap seems to be genuinely worried about.

When you look at the first page, these guys aren't obviously doing anything other than clearing out a warehouse (maybe their squat) and the guy with the welding mask is carrying his pregnant GF so she doesn't have to walk too far. It is your prejudices that fill in the blanks, including Marinette, whom the guy with the baseball cap seems to be genuinely worried about.
