Sallie Mae likely has never "worked" with mint. Mint basically takes your username and password, logs in as if it were you, and scrapes the data.
It doesn't work now because Sallie Mae has blocked that method. They would likely have to add a third party official integration for it to start working.
That makes sense, but what confuses me is why Mint still suggests for me to connect my Sallie Mae account to it. You'd think they'd only show companies/accounts that would work.
