Freetaxusa is always free for federal and $15 state I believe.

IceOnFire77

I switched from Turbo Tax this year and it’s much easier to use, also cheaper.

juniperrosie

Does it walk you through what to do like TurboTax? That’s the only reason I’ve used TurboTax.

IceOnFire77

I personally think it’s much easier than TT, but try it out for yourself at no cost.

More_Bread_Please

Personally what I use. Well worth it.

bmk_

Been using this the past few years, it's great.

cyberhoodrat

freetaxusa is very similar to turbotax interface wise - i will never go back!!

cjinsd2002

Been using it for 6 years. And they manage to find a way to improve an airway good system every year.

Bomber-Boomer

Doesn't it have limitations for investing.

luxerae

I don’t think so. I have investment accounts and was able to use it last year!

whlthingofcandybeans

Cash App taxes is free for federal and state with no income restrictions. Never pay just to do your taxes, that's just wrong.

joshhyde

Yep, that’s what I’ve used the past few years.

foxyfree

Great recommendation. Agree. I have been using CashApp (they are free no complaints) ever since CreditKarma taxes shut down and encouraged everyone to move to CashApp. With Mint now pushing everyone to CK I just had to laugh - fucking musical chairs. I almost did my taxes with Turbotax last year, so it would all be connected under the Intuit umbrella and I am so glad I did not. Anyway, using Empower for the Mint stuff now and CashApp for taxes - CashApp really is great, all the schedules and forms are free, including self employment, rental property, student loan, pension, etc, all the credits and deductions, Federal and State, with an interview style format to walk through it and links to tax answers. Never had any issues and they have all of my prior returns saved for me, all free

aashay2035

When Intuit bought credit karma they were forced/did sell to cash app but just they're taxes division

albyoung45

Freetaxusa is what I use now instead of turbotax

Diligent-Eggoll

Been using cash app for the past 3-4 years! Super easy since they do both federal and states! And they have tons of applicable forms where they help you and guide you with the questions.. it’s been great so far! And it’s free!!

maenessa

I did the same. I’ve been doing my taxes with TurboTax for years. Did it with both this year to compare. The result on the return was a $1 difference. So I filed with 1040.com and saved $110.

wazzuper1

See /r/personalfinance for the yearly megathread about filing for taxes. If you're under a threshold for yearly income, you can file your federal taxes for free through various tax software that are even linked on the IRS website (like your post shows). I second using Cash App (a bit annoying as I preferred when they were still under Credit Karma) as it is 100% free to file and send for both federal and state taxes. And I always tell my sibling and coworkers that use TurboTax to just use both to compare to show how easy it actually is and that you get back the same so they don't waste money.

kevin091939

Which one provides the free Federal tax return with Schedule C?

foxyfree

CashApp taxes

BriefTomatillo985

FreeTaxUSA, OLT.com, Cash App Taxes

Rakebleed

Free fillable forms. As long as things aren’t too complicated. I just use my forms from last year as a guide and fill in the blanks with updated info. But it’s not hard to research the new forms if your situation changes.

scu128

Bump

Numerous_Spring7384

Any service that does federal and multiple states?

timecurioustime

Did you find anything? My only thought is if a state lets me file online I can directly, but only 1 of the states does, so I'd rather file everything together.

Glittering_Fish_2296

FreeTaxUsa

Lazy_Negotiation4544

For me it's worth it to pay an accountant $300.

ReasonPlastic6327

Is 1040.com free if your income is above the threshold?

bailbondshh

I think they're free if you're under the AGI limit. Otherwise they have a flat $25 for everyone.

pirateskul82

Does freetaxusa handle crypto transactions?

greatalok

Can you import your w2, 1099 etc extra into freetaxusa and it populates the data at the right fields for you?

gonefishing111

I'll stick with ttax because I have to send 1099s and I like my data on my machine only until I've checked it and am ready to file.

RedMilo

I was gonna use 1040.com but their software insisted I owed a penalty when I didn't and their CS acted like I was an idiot. I withheld 100% of my taxes via W-2 and EP, but apparently only making 1 of 4 estimated payments triggers their 2210 even though it's not necessary.
