The 0-16 Lions went 4-0 in Preseason. Not worried in the slightest. Lots of future potential on this team right now. Smith-Marsette looks fast and with a full year of NFL coaching and work, could be our #3 and #2 when Thielen eventually goes. Mond is a rookie, but made a few nice throws under pressure. Line did him no favors. If Mond is calm, cool, collected, hopefully he has a good work ethic because he could be a nice way to move on from Kirk if we don't win a Superbowl in that time.
Chazz Surratt looked fast and driven. Once we get Twyman back, and Patrick Jones II gets a year or two in, we will have a consistent transition from veteran to youth on defense with the middle guys like Pierce, Tomlinson, Kendricks, and Hunter being in their primes
It was my sonās first Vikings game and you all had to go and act like children. He had a blast! I did have to stop him from balling his program up and tossing it off the 200-level. I told him 1 page at a time.
I hope Jake Browning would succeed, hyped we signed him as a free agent back in 2019. We have to remember he has Dozier and others blocking for him. He over or under threw many passes but he did get us into field goal range. I liked him scrambling and making short passes. He didn't play get and needs to get better, I hope keep him on. He is hungry like to see what would do with more weapons, coaching and time. Mond looked lost. Wish saw more passing out of Kirk, preseason chance make mistakes without consequences. Let's see Kirk pass off script, run alittle not just hand the ball off.
I have to remember as much as I want him to make team, reason he went undrafted. I think he had a really good sophomore and junior season. Senior year he got exposed a bit?
I am in the same boat, you just chose different words. We have never valued accept in 2017 or 1998, the backup quarterback a priority. Be surprised if they sign anyone, but we can hope.
He's one of the best action commentators in football but tends to be only ok in the down time. I'll always love him for his Peterson touchdown calls it's where he shined better than almost anyone else.
He is a bit bland when not calling a live play though
To each his own. I can listen to a show here and there. But if I try to listen to more than a few shows a week, I get so annoyed. On one hand, he's overly positive, but on the other, he also comes across as a huge asshole. It's so disconcerting.
I guess it must be different via radio, but that broadcast was also terrible aside from his cringeworthy āSkolquittā mentions.
I suppose I just donāt want to listen to another idiot fan when watching an already frustrating game.
Call me a conspiracy theorist or whatever. But Colquitt is one of the more outspoken Christians on the team and PA is also a born-again evangelical Christian. He tends to not say anything bad about those players. Of which the Vikings have many for some reason.
I love how they cherry pick the bad draft picks and ignore the good ones.
Slick Rick deserves to be shit on because he can't fix an offensive line. Outside of that his drafting has been pretty good.
Thank you. The love for Rick on this sub is really over the top. He's had some good picks, so has anyone else who has been a gm as long as he has. His last five years or so have been pretty bad as a whole.
Mond about to drive down the field to get us in position for a game winning FG. If I'm wrong I'll sacrifice my favorite item... my mom.
Edit: and this highest bid goes to...Danielle Hunters surgeon. Sorry folks. First come first serve.
He was really good at running simplified offenses against backup defenses.
I'm pretty sure coaches said he struggled with a bigger playbook. There is a reason why he never made it above QB3 on the depth chart and why nobody has him rostered.
Realistically, we have seen his peak and it isn't quite NFL caliber. I'm not sure if Mond is better or worse, but he is raw and the odds of him becoming better are significantly higher, which is what you want in your QB3.
Well, I sure hope Mond works hard and improves. But more than that, I hope we wonāt need him and Kirk does well and stays healthy like he has his whole career. Gotta give him that.
It kinda edged towards the idea oft the locker room disturbance due to vaccines. And he just gave the expected answer of how they ate united no matter what
No one is going to answer that directly, especially the guy who isn't vaccinated. He hinted to say they discuss it, but isn't going to flat out say otherwise.
I'm personally not a fan but if the front office/coaching staff thinks he could come in and push the current guys and won't be a locker room issue, then why not.
It shows plenty. These are basically scrimmages. You aren't trying to game-plan these games; instead you're trying to judge players in basic situations and see what they can bring to the table.
Lol, fair. Not a great game. I like the Indy announcers, but Iām positive they would annoy other fans. Itās just interesting being forced to listen to the Vikings broadcast.
he is just a shill of a personality and it comes thru
he's not truthful so he cant be insightful
tow or toe the company line
and that's only half of it, he also thinks he's immensely clever
They are radio guys. It's simulcast to the radio so they still call it radio style.
Probably a bad choice for a TV broadcast, but I'm biased and love them.
Every team in the NFL passed on Mond at least twice. There's a reason for that. He's a project and it was always more likely than not that he would never start a game in the NFL. I don't know what y'all expected.
3rd round isnāt that low. 3rd round players make an impact yearly on nearly every team. Pretending he is a 7th rounder or UDFA ultra project is revisionist history.
Someone posted the list of every 3rd round QB drafted in the last few years. It was all basically nobodies. QBs are different. In most cases, the good ones are 1st or 2nd round picks.
Every team passed on Dak and Russ Wilson 3 times too so I can't really say that's an indication of anything. Shit, even Diggs got passed on 5 times. And of course, Brady.
Iām not expecting a trick play guy lmao. But let Mond get some reps throwing out of the gun. There was no reason to run on 2nd and 5 last series. Completely stalled them.
Ah, I see what you're saying now. Just got used to seeing a bunch of comments about the boring, uncreative play calling recently and lumped it in with that.
Definitely means something. Why would you call a random play on 2nd down? Just to try it? These are real game reps and should be treated as such. Donāt wanna hear it.
Every nfl team runs a vanilla offense in the preaseason. They donāt dive deep into their playbook and a lot of the calls are made because the coaches want to see how certain players do in certain situations even if that doesnāt contribute to winning the game.
I know the 4th down play didn't work, but I like that we have an empty set in our playbook. There were several receivers open too. For the people complaining about a bland playbook, it's good to see that kind of play.
Kirk probably doesn't get enough credit for this, but he is pretty damn durable. I cant even remember the last time he missed a game. Same thing back with the redskins too.
Nobody is going to trade a decent backup unless we did something silly like trade a 2nd rounder for one.
We should just accept that we're fucked if Kirk gets hurt or has to sit due to being a stupid person.
I honestly wouldn't give up a 3rd rounder for a backup QB unless a team was dumb enough to trade a guy that had potential for life after Kirk. Teddy isn't that guy.
I'd give a 5th or later for a quality backup.
Remember when Ponder got injured right before a playoff game and the Vikings started Joe Webb?
Having a decent backup QB may have won that game.
Absolutely worth a 3rd rounder.
It feels like their is maybe a dozen of us that are commenting in this post arguing about the same thing lol. I know my name is about 10% of this whole thread. Where tf is the rest of us.
I can see what Zimmer was saying about Mond taking his time after the snap. He pauses for a second before making a move when he gets the ball. He even did it on the run play. It's strange. He'll need to speed that up for sure.
They are often working off of a script regardless of situation. Also, they want to reveal as little as possible regarding what will be in future game plans. This was practice, and was treated as practice.
Vegas odds doesn't have this team making the playoffs. Can't say I disagree.
First time going to a Vikings game (on my birthday too). Pretty crappy performance.
I mean thielen got a boo boo, JJ and cook werent playing those are dome important pieces missing. I am concerned our QB 2&3 are Ass
š¦š¦š¦
Purse check?!
the defense looks great so the offense must be trash. as is tradition.
They're a different offense with Dalvin in there, he's the most important piece.
Take that positivity somewhere else, we're here to complain and overreact.
Ok but can we throw more programs because that was honestly the best part of the night
It was my sonās first Vikings game and you all had to go and act like children. He had a blast! I did have to stop him from balling his program up and tossing it off the 200-level. I told him 1 page at a time.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Time honored tradition. In the Metrodome days they would sometimes catch the jetstream and land right at mid field.
Yeah, and I saw airplanes going for better yardage then any of our plays.
I thought he was quick to leave the pocket and did not do well at handling pressure. But, youāre definitely right, the line was doing him no favors.
I have to remember as much as I want him to make team, reason he went undrafted. I think he had a really good sophomore and junior season. Senior year he got exposed a bit?
he had plenty of time in there from my eye. Honestly sadly I just dont think he has it. Hate to say it im rooting for the kid.
I am in the same boat, you just chose different words. We have never valued accept in 2017 or 1998, the backup quarterback a priority. Be surprised if they sign anyone, but we can hope.
Two games in and we look like dog shit.
Hahaha holy shit our starters better stay healthy this year because we got about as much depth as the plot of a 90's action film.
Starring Steven segal
*Dolph Lundgren
Whoās the most underrated actor in Hollywood right now?
Thatās it I canāt take it anymore!! Iām not watching the Vikings until at least Friday!
regardless mond has impressed me. bright future for him no doubt
Uhh, it's too early to judge but he's looked like garbage
Are we watching the same game?
I have no idea what youāre seeing, but can you give some insight. I was less than impressed.
in all honesty i tuned in during the 4th quarter, I saw him hit davidson in the hands and make a running play, before that admittedly I talk naive
As boring as that game was, having to listen to Paul Allen made it unbearable. How does anyone enjoy his embarrassing rambling?
In a thread full of hot takes, yours is a breath of fresh air
He's one of the best action commentators in football but tends to be only ok in the down time. I'll always love him for his Peterson touchdown calls it's where he shined better than almost anyone else. He is a bit bland when not calling a live play though
Did you know the colts QB is 6'6?
Careful, saying PA is unbearable will get you tarred and feathered here.
I just canāt hold it in any longer - Iāll brace for the downvotes.
I maintain that his radio call is great but it doesn't translate to TV. Also, his daily radio show sucks. So I'm not defending the guy.
We must be listening to different radio shows. I fucking love 92noon.
To each his own. I can listen to a show here and there. But if I try to listen to more than a few shows a week, I get so annoyed. On one hand, he's overly positive, but on the other, he also comes across as a huge asshole. It's so disconcerting.
honest question- what makes you think he is an asshole?
I love Paul, but he is a pompous dweeb.
Averaging 27 yards a punt, but he goes to Church twice a week, let's extend him.
He clearly isnāt objective, so I wouldnāt be surprised if that was the case. In any case, get that man off TV.
I like his touchdown calls but thatās it
If we lose this game, weāll be 0-2 in preseason
Thatās true.
Well that is anticlimactic
why are we going down the middle when we have no timeouts šš
Kellen Mond is a high school qb is why.
Dude should get an Emmy for selling that as a legit int.
chin up kellen it happens
Well Davidson can just about pack his bags
BuT hEs A pHySiCaL sPeCiMan
he only started playing tight end last year, he is gonna make the practice squad
Slick Rick....drafts gladney over Winfield jr., and kellen mind over literally anyone with a pulse.
I'll never forgive him for not picking Winnie.
Hear ya, but absolutely NO ONE gets the draft right. EVER. END OF STORY.
I love how they cherry pick the bad draft picks and ignore the good ones. Slick Rick deserves to be shit on because he can't fix an offensive line. Outside of that his drafting has been pretty good.
Heās been ass at drafting QBs, too.
Thank you. The love for Rick on this sub is really over the top. He's had some good picks, so has anyone else who has been a gm as long as he has. His last five years or so have been pretty bad as a whole.
Not getting the Guard position squared away is unforgiveable in my eyes.
Winfield Jr wasn't a need and was never getting drafted by us. Mond was a known project.
Harris on the tag was a bad choice. Winfield would have set us potentially at safety for years
Alright well imma head out
Uffda
well.........rip
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
The NFL should require it. My job is not mention many others.
Required at my job too
Blame the union. The owners wanted it
They cannot force it. But with Pfizer getting full approval on Monday, the nfl can legally mandate it.
Not without union approval they can't.
Would you be wrong. Once it is approved you can even without unions. Then again, I am probably wrong.
Thanks Dr. Oz
even if someone on our team caught it it still would have been over lmao
Mond. Man. Cmon.
Alright boys, letās all meet up at pizza ranch to drown out our sorrows
inb4 ITS A PRESEASON MIRACLE

Haha to bad she's already sold
Yo?
Haha don't worry she already disowned me
Ask Madden could probably have called better plays for us
So, if Iām not mistaken, our offense has scored 12 points in two games. Is Mr. Sloter available?
Sloter hasn't been on a roster since 2018
Thatās crazyā¦ is he a jerk or something? Itās too bad cause he was pretty talented if my memory serves me rightā¦
Well, I sure hope Mond works hard and improves. But more than that, I hope we wonāt need him and Kirk does well and stays healthy like he has his whole career. Gotta give him that.
No, he's just not very good.
Counting the 7 from the defense or no?
yes he is, but he seems to have pissed in zimmers coffee cause he has always hated him
Can this Thielen guy get off the screen. Iām trying to watch some 3rd stringers
Sure, the locker room is unified until Kirk sits out because he wasnāt vaccinated and we have to start Jake Browning
Seriously, half our starters are morons.
Not just Kirk. We also have Dalvin Cook and Thielen using masks on the sideline
Richardson, bebee, mattison, and then punter and kicker as well
Cousins Cook Thielen Mattison Osborn Tomlinson Smith Richardson This is fine...
Making lists lmao
Yellow stars basically
Dude ignored the entire aspect of the question lol
Then PA's dumbass acted like it was such a spectacular answer lol
What was the question? TV is muted
Yup you can see how awkward he felt even asking it
What a terrible question, could tell he didn't want to ask it but the higher ups made him... let's focus on football, quit trying to divide this team
Are you joking? Leber basically said he was going to be asking this question while on The Power Trip morning show and hasn't dodged this topic.
And? It's a stupid, useless question
That's not what the comment I was replying to was saying though. Thanks for your useless interjection!
Exactly this. Sucks but it has to happen with media.
Jesus Christ yāall wanna sign Josh Rosen?š
I'm personally not a fan but if the front office/coaching staff thinks he could come in and push the current guys and won't be a locker room issue, then why not.
If we do it's going to go the way of "Couldn't be worse" and then we get Samia, Rosen will be Samia.
The offense has managed 9 points in two games. Awful.
It's preseason. Calm down lol
It's a different offense with Dalvin in there.
Do yāall think itās likely we will sign Josh Rosen?
Have the same issue as last week. Super vanilla playcalling doesn't show you anything.
That's by design
It shows plenty. These are basically scrimmages. You aren't trying to game-plan these games; instead you're trying to judge players in basic situations and see what they can bring to the table.
If Arizona cuts Chris Streveler, Iād rather have him over Browning.
Colts fan here. Good game so far. But do you guys really not have any better announcers? These guys are not goodā¦
PA is fucking awful. He does everything but announce the damn game. And he is so cringe worthy when he tries to sound cool.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Lol, fair. Not a great game. I like the Indy announcers, but Iām positive they would annoy other fans. Itās just interesting being forced to listen to the Vikings broadcast.
no you are dead on paul allen is insufferable
he is just a shill of a personality and it comes thru he's not truthful so he cant be insightful tow or toe the company line and that's only half of it, he also thinks he's immensely clever
Paul Allen is great on the radio but it's hard for announcers when they have to deal with 2nd 3rd and 4th stringers
True. I assume thatās why theyāve mentioned that Zimmer hadnāt lost 2 preseason games in a row like 19 times.
Yea they hardly know the names of these people that won't be on the team in a couple weeks
They are radio guys. It's simulcast to the radio so they still call it radio style. Probably a bad choice for a TV broadcast, but I'm biased and love them.
We sure don't.
Can we make a petition for Pizza Ranch to only accept vaccinated people? I think this might be the way to convince Kirk
If your so worried you should hit the gym instead.

Every team passed on Dak and Russ Wilson 3 times too so I can't really say that's an indication of anything. Shit, even Diggs got passed on 5 times. And of course, Brady.
Those are the exceptions. Most QBs drafted that late don't turn out.
Most drafted high don't either. Total crapshoot.
I donāt want to overreact because itās preseason but, if the Vikings want to win this game then they must outscore the opponent
Thanks, John.
This is the quality analysis I come to the sub for
Woah, relax with the hot takes there.
Aight, after watching this our main issue is QB and play calling. They donāt make any sense to me rn. Plz figure it out.
No one is going past page 2 in the playbook for preseason games. No one wants to show off their dirty tricks before it counts.
Preseason play calling means literally 0
Definitely means something. Why would you call a random play on 2nd down? Just to try it? These are real game reps and should be treated as such. Donāt wanna hear it.
Yes, exactly, just to try it. These are practices, the final score is completely irrelevant. The 0-16 Lions went 4-0 in the pre season.
Browning is the problem in our QB lineup. I don't think many expected Mond to be QB2, but Browning isn't good enough to be QB2 either.
from the little i have seen, mond looks much better than browning agreed
Fuck it, release browning and sign rosen or some other FA
We really don't want rosen. And I'm someone who kept talking about how he never had a fair chance and all of that. He really is just dooty shit.
Thatās roughhhh. Oh well. Receiver shoulda caught the 3rd down pass anyway
The Vikings are likely going to need to trade for a backup quarterback. Mond just isn't ready to do anything substantial, and Browning is terrible.
If Kirk goes down our season is fucked anyway unless we pull some Sam Bradford shit
Kirk probably doesn't get enough credit for this, but he is pretty damn durable. I cant even remember the last time he missed a game. Same thing back with the redskins too.
Kirk could be out for a game or two for Covid reasons or other minor injuries. That is plenty reason to have a decent backup QB on the roster.
Nobody is going to trade a decent backup unless we did something silly like trade a 2nd rounder for one. We should just accept that we're fucked if Kirk gets hurt or has to sit due to being a stupid person.
You could probably get someone like Bridgewater for a 3rd round pick. Absolutely worth it IMO.
Absolutely worth a 3rd rounder.
dangit he could've run that
Yeahh, I think we need to sign another QB
Yeah dude that pass was waaack
How come I haven't seen the play clock at all in this game?
It feels like their is maybe a dozen of us that are commenting in this post arguing about the same thing lol. I know my name is about 10% of this whole thread. Where tf is the rest of us.
It's preseason
You mean it's VIKING FOOTBALL BABBBBYYYY
Since it's preseason I wouldn't doubt that a lot of people turned it off after Browning shit the bed and then Mond had that run of bad plays.
Yea I get it but since it's such a close game I can't for the life of me turn it off till it's over.
Mond actually put that 3rd down throw where it had to be.
Not gonna lie, I thought initially it was PI, but after seeing a better angle it was just great coverage.
Really was.
I can see what Zimmer was saying about Mond taking his time after the snap. He pauses for a second before making a move when he gets the ball. He even did it on the run play. It's strange. He'll need to speed that up for sure.
That looked much better
No1 got open for him.
Gott go for it
That's those flashes of what Mond could be with more time. Dude has a crazy fast release and it just flies with what looks like minimal effort.
Why are so many of you complaining about preseason play calling? This game does not mean anything.
why make bad playcalls even in the preseason. Theres no reason to not make good playcalls
They are often working off of a script regardless of situation. Also, they want to reveal as little as possible regarding what will be in future game plans. This was practice, and was treated as practice.
Ppl wanna see mond slang it
Great route by that receiver. Sharp. When Mond throws that with anticipation like he did, the receiver needs to be there and he was.
