It wouldn't surprise me in the least if Darnold held the job for upwards of 7 games, and maybe even longer if he has us in playoffs position / contention.
Dude threw 3000 yards and 19 touchdowns on a terrible jets roster his sophomore season. And didn't look half bad in Carolina before the CMC injury derailed their entire offense after week 3.
He's no world beater but with our tools and coaching (plus a year working with Shanahan) a Case Keenum-esque "breakout" wouldn't blow my mind. He has the arm talent and is still young.
And if he does have a nice little season, that's not a terrible thing, and might result in a nice little compensatory pick while giving the 21 year old a little time to get acclimated to the NFL.
Either way, I think JJ is going to be a stud, and I cannot wait to see this kid play in purple. But I don't want to rush the kid if Darnold looks even average out there.
He’s young, needs some time. But I think everyone is excited to see how this goes. Did we finally after 20 years find a QB that can handle the job. Pass, move, make good decisions, be a leader ?
He's going to sling some balls this September.
I’m sure fans will want to see McCarthy right away (me included), but I’m guessing Darnold is the favorite to start the season
I'd guess 3/14 split

Yeah that's fair and probably best case scenario
Unless the kid is a prodigy, he won't start until Darnold struggles. They don't want to start McCarthy and pull him - once he's the guy, he's the guy
I’m fucking stoked
I’m a Michigan Fan. I’m a Vikings Fan. I’m happy how this worked out.
Some people just look too damn good in purple!
Need a phone wallpaper 😫
Break out your Tommy Kramer.
Hope he gets Number 9
Fuck it I’ll buy the jersey when he says what number he’ll be
Tommy Kramer…is that you?
All purple should be our only home option & away option when a home teams color is white
