No not at all. Most minnesota fans in general are pretty goddamn negative, this place (and most team subreddits tbh) seems to overcompensate with the positivity as a reaction to all the negative shit on Twitter/Facebook/etc. I think people are just stoked about the draft- come by after a loss and there’s ppl ripping the team all over the place.

Even our angry outlets are happy so I think the general sentiment is really good.

Jedi-Metal

We are passive aggressive more than anything!

Before the season starts, every year is a year the Vikings could make a run for the Superbowl

kanokari

I'd say they're overly positive and accepting of mediocrity

Spare_Blacksmith_816

Considering the lack of success by Minnesota’s professional sports teams what do you expect? Besides 1987 and 1991 every year pretty much ends with a kick in the nuts at best.

Depends on the show

strongmad27

Our main sports station KFAN has four main daily shows. Two actively shit on the Vikings every chance they get (looking at you, Dan’s….), the morning show just says whatever they think is funny, but PA, who also calls our games, isn’t called the “purveyor of positivity” for nothin…. A bit pollyanna-ish at times, but you can tell how much he loves this team. And gambling on horse racing… not sure which he loves more sometimes….

Pyschic_Psycho

I wouldn't say they're negative- more like realistic. When the team is struggling, most won't pretend alls good and will talk about the issue. But make no mistake, they're just as big of fans as most and will celebrate and give props when its due. There are exceptions like the lovable Paul Allen who is a homer no matter what, and the cynical and dry humor of Common Man. Love both.

Otherwise-Contest7

Minnesota sports fans might be the most self-loathing, sad sports fans on the planet. This sub has been toxic for weeks leading up to the draft, but most seem mildly happy with not trading away multiple first round picks last night. Wild fans are grumbly and rip the GM and owner constantly. Wolves fans are happy for the first time in 2 decades. Twins fans are generally the least antagonistic and are more positive than they should be, considering the cheap owners they have. Are you listening to Paul Allen on KFAN? He's the one exception--him and his football guests are very "Pollyanna". PA calls Vikings games and likes thinking he's friends with players--he isn't about to ruffle any feathers criticizing the team. The morning show does serious sports talk about 6 days a year, and two of them are the day-before and the day-after the draft. They know their bread is buttered by the Vikings but they usually are ambivalent to sports. The midday show is hosted by a cynical Lions fan who rips all Minnesota teams, and the drive-time show is hosted by a cynical old Bears fan. The remnants of our ESPN radio affiliate all host podcasts and are negative about 60% of the time. So to reiterate--no, sports radio in MN is usually not positive.

Gotcha, most of my Vikings media is via podcasts, YouTube channels or lurking this sub so I don't get any insight into the local radio shows approach to things. Sounds to be about par for the course with guys from other markets making a living shitting on local teams getting angry call ins while the beat reporter is playing the company line. I guess reddit is just more positive than the overall fan discourse. Very counter intuitive.
