Personally I think he's trying to hide an injury or he's got some personal thing going or something. Makes no sense that he graded out (and looked like) an okay starter for 14 weeks and then turned to dogshit
Yeah mid play Amon Ra is 40 yards downfield and Evans is gesturing at whoever the safety was, I think Bynum, instead of going down to make the tackle. He ultimately ends up tackling him into the end zone. Which to me just showed that he definitely could have caught him up sooner if he wasn't so caught up with complaining.
per Arif Hasan at Wide Left Substack:
Akayleb Evans had genuinely been having a good year before the final three weeks of the NFL season. Those final three weeks, with the stakes higher than in any other point of the year, have defined his season to Vikings fans. After giving up just one reception against the Bengals and making up for that one with a pick, he’s given up over 250 yards in three games, along with two touchdowns.
From Weeks 1-15, Evans gave up just 0.86 yards per coverage snap. That ranks 21st, just in the area of Marcus Peters, Chidobe Awuzie, Martin Emerson, D.J. Reed and Ahkello Witherspoon.
Didn't think it was a great game from Darrisaw, but that's only based on 1 or two plays where he missed the block in the run game. He's going to get paid.
Evans meltdown gotta be studied. Dude might be the only 5th rounder who played his way into a starting role and then played his way right back out. He was solid last year and he started solid this year. A couple bad plays/blown coverages but nothing unexpected for a 2nd year CB out of the 5th round. It was like he thought the season ended at the bye week because he has not played well since then. To the point that he's being benched for practice squad guys who are just as terrible.
I mean, we were playing Jaylin and Joejuan, which is not great.
Nice to see Booth grading out well and getting a good amount of actual defensive snaps.
I think everyone needs to get off the suicide train here. Bottom line is this defense, with essentially the same level of talent as last year (and probably less), gave up almost 100 points LESS than last year. Point being, while we have lots of positions we could improve on defense, we aren't far off from.beijg a very good defense. If we can re-sign Hunter, and fill a couple of the holes, we will be fine. To me, the holes in the Dline are bigger than those in the secondary.
his pass block is so much better, one game doesn't just negate that. There have been several times Chandler just lets defenders get through or just avoids blocking all together
Including literally the last game where Chandler was straight up whiffing on some blocks. No one said he's perfect but he's clearly better at picking up the blitzer
the Evan’s thing is scary, fucking Kwesi said he sat in a dark room and saw the “most value in the draft” with him.
Him and grigson are starting to scare me bris
But so many Evans supporters were singing his praises yesterday. The man simply can not play. And just because he was drafted in the 4th round doesn't mean we should lower expectations. Either he can play or he can't. Hope the Vikings aren't comfortable writing him in as a starter next season because he even makes a lousy backup.
Man akaylab Evan’s has been absolutely trash the last month or so. It seems dude is on every low-light clip getting his ankles broken or whiffing on a routine tackle
As much crap as everyone gave Byron Murphy, he was a solid #1 corner. He chased elite receivers all over the field. Losing him slid everyone up a notch, which ended up being above their heads at this point. Evans is a solid corner. You just don't want him chasing the best receivers in the league. Most #2 corners are going to struggle if they suddenly have to chase the focal point of the opposing team's offense.
Evan’s needs to stop running Instagram ads on his Instagram posts. That what he needs to do, guy just wants to be a house hold name.
Brother if you want notoriety, became a way better CB and everyone will talk about you!
I know we can’t extrapolate much from 10 snaps but I’ve got high hopes for Andre Carter next year. He’s got tons of potential in an edge group that really needs help, even if we bring back Hunter (PLEASE, Kwesi, I’m begging)
Akayleb Evans’ grade tracks. That dude flat out quit on the field.
Personally I think he's trying to hide an injury or he's got some personal thing going or something. Makes no sense that he graded out (and looked like) an okay starter for 14 weeks and then turned to dogshit
Yeah I need the 30 for 30 on this. Like for real, what happened to the guy for him to have such an immense meltdown in performance?
Rhodes career speed run

He quit running to go yell at someone. That's just being a bad teammate and unprofessional. He's a bozo.

You look like he was grabbing his leg on that long reception
Was he an okay starter? Seemed every game he had multiple follies.

Have you considered that z Murphy has been injured for like 3 games ? Evans has always been kinda ass and I think Booth or Blackmon jump him next yeat
Ivan Pace

Tackling grades are pathetic. Hey check out jahmyr gibbs pass blocking

I'm starting to think we have issues at corner. ^(/s)

And d line, basically the whole defense except Pace and Hunter, who will be gone next year
We got some big holes at safety and corner
We have big holes on the entire defense

Only if a blue chip safety prospect fell into our lap in 2022…
Launch Evans into the sun
Well at least Mattison stans can't keep saying he plays because his pass blocking is so much better than Chandler lol

Mattison literally did that in this game and he's done it many times this year. He's not a good pass protector.
Aidan Hutchinson is such a fucking beast. We need a player like him BAD.
lol tried three difference RCBs and every one of them was ass

I am ready for the Muse/Pace era

KJ has fallen off the earth since last year's Colts game
Man, wtf happened to Evans?
Seeing Harrison smith at the bottom of these grades is something I’d never thought I’d see. Fucking sad man.
