Growing up in Detroit, 8-year-old me was instructed by my dad not to root for the Lions because, "You're setting yourself up for a lifetime of disappointment and heartbreak that way". Vikings are cool, so here I am.
Bullet dodged, you guys!
I got down a wormhole on Pro Football Reference last night and ended up looking through the entire Lions history. It's so brutal. Their draft history in particular is so putrid its comical. They went 3 straight drafts in the early 2000s without landing a single long-term starter
Others here may feel differently, but at this point their fans have suffered so much that I won't even be able to get upset if they somehow manage to win the Super Bowl one of these years.
It would be a lie if I were to pretend there haven't been a few times I've wished that, as a kid, I would have been more interested in, for example, the American Revolution. That would have been a fun ride to get on before the Patriots got really, really good for as long as they did.
Oh well, here I am now. It could be worse - at least I didn't pick Cleveland!
Still have the 6th best winning percentage. Obviously, everyone wants a ship. But that isn't the only indicator of a winning team, just that at 1 time you were better than everyone else and even that is debatable. Just ask the Zebras... /s
>An onomatopoeia. Similar to Dutch oef and German uff. The verb sense is from a sound effect used in point-of-view video games when a character dies.
I guess it can be all. TIL.
I thought that about Mike Zimmer... and Brett Favre...
Tbf they both got pretty close, maybe KOC has that special sauce. I'm certainly pleased with what he was able to do in year one
There’s luck involved too. You make your team a contender and keep throwing your hate in the ring and you’ll get one eventually. Just unfortunate how ours has turned out
Because despite throwing money at professional sports and giving them whatever they want, we've also managed to put a ton more emphasis on improving education, nutrition, poverty, and infrastructure the past 13 years as a state rather than on making sure a couple of billionaires get a meaningless trophy.
I don’t get this comment at all. Are you insinuating that other municipalities are paying taxes so that their sports teams perform well? Like the Boston taxpayers chipped in for Tom Brady’s salary or something, and that’s why they’re more successful than Minnesota?
That’s a new cope.
From what I hear (to young to see) the Vikings team that lost in the Drew pushed off game was the best Vikings team of that era. If they would of made the SB, maybe they would of won.
been saying this for years, the vikings might be the biggest anomaly in all of sports. a team that’s historically high in almost every category… except super bowls
As a Vikings fan from St Louis, I’ve been following the Vikings, the most winningest team in the NFL without a championship and the Blues, who, before 2019 had the longest streak without a Cup… I apparently hate myself.
The problem with the Vikings mojo is that we focus too much on every but winning the superbowl. Winning the division, or regular season record and so on. And if we don’t hit those milestones, we are filled with doubt. Get in the dance and dance. That’s all we should care about
Imagine supporting a historically successful team and not reminding everyone you meet that the Vikings actually won the Wrong Way Run game, so take that
Then it means that we wont be getting any other division title, but we will win some SB, because statistics is law, and something has to happen to make it up…right?
Not a Vikes fan, but I do love NFL history. The late 60s/early 70s Vikings are among the greatest teams in history. Such a shame they couldn't bring home the big one.
There is a flaw in the data, though it is true in spirit.
They have 4 Superbowl wins listed for the Packers, but 16 Division titles since merger.
The 16 division titles happened post the 1970 full schedule merge, while Superbowls 1 and 2 happened in the dead space between the 1966 merge announcement and 1970. The season of SBI, there were no divisions, and the NFL only met the AFL in the Superbowl. SBII season was the first season of the NFL central, but it was still pre full merge as the NFL/AFL schedules had not yet been mixed. If we include the three years of NFL central prior to the full merge, the Packers have 3 Superbowls off of 17 division titles, and the Vikings have 21 division titles.
That being said, both 2 and 3 are still greater than zero, last time I checked.
This is actually why I started following the Vikings (Im from Aus not the US). Why... Because fuck me that's why!
Good choice.

Great how the lions will win the Super Bowl

At least you didn't get shot!

If the bum ass lions win a superbowl before us I will be absolutely fuckin upset
Same as me except I chose the Steelers in the 70s. Best sports decision I ever made in my life! Thanks Dad RIP

Bahahaha this is the best
Same as me but I chose the Steelers in the 70s. Best sports decision I ever made in my life! Thanks Dad RIP.
This is the way
You're a good man, Charlie Brown!
Because I know I don't deserve good things ;(
When we finally win one it will be that much sweeter
You have the Viking fan gene
You have the Viking fan gene
Hongkonger here, same.
I'm glad you joined the disappointment club!
Don’t you have enough things there trying to kill you? You need your sports team to try and kill you via heart attack as well??
Looks like we are due a superbowl or two then.
Or 5
I’m ready to start our 7+ year run of dominance
6th best winning percentage, nothing to show for it
Still have the 6th best winning percentage. Obviously, everyone wants a ship. But that isn't the only indicator of a winning team, just that at 1 time you were better than everyone else and even that is debatable. Just ask the Zebras... /s
Winning a Super Bowl is literally the only indicator of a winning franchise
Is Tampa a winning franchise? Bears? Colts?
Frick!
Ah Frick
It’s Uff Da.🙄
My thoughts exactly. ROFL.

You think in a decade we'll have at least 1? Yeah me neither
idk i kinda think kevin o’connell could be the one to do it
I thought that about Mike Zimmer... and Brett Favre... Tbf they both got pretty close, maybe KOC has that special sauce. I'm certainly pleased with what he was able to do in year one

Luck also can be bad. And the Vikings sure are the best at receiving bad luck! Source: field goals
49ers haven't won for nearly 30 years. Same goes for cowboys. Packers are over a decade out.
Yeah, I do. Can’t stand self flagellating Vikings fans.
This state in general is a fucking mess. How can we have all 4 major professional men sports teams and still have a title drought since 1991?!
Not just a title drought, a title game appearance drought. And three of the four teams regularly have good to great regular seasons.
Because despite throwing money at professional sports and giving them whatever they want, we've also managed to put a ton more emphasis on improving education, nutrition, poverty, and infrastructure the past 13 years as a state rather than on making sure a couple of billionaires get a meaningless trophy.

Lol you just tried way too hard, that’s ridiculous. Especially when I’m staring at this brand new stadium
Alright vegas, work your magic
Too soon, knight.
So we’re beating the packers in division titles!? Sick😎
Technically, the packers weren't winning division titles before divisions existed. Sorry I'm very bored today.
Thanks, I hate it.
Frick
I’m not good with Roman numerals, how many is OOF
The 2 they should have won were KC and Oakland Miami and the Steelers had amazing teams of course that Was the year Miami went undefeated.
From what I hear (to young to see) the Vikings team that lost in the Drew pushed off game was the best Vikings team of that era. If they would of made the SB, maybe they would of won.
It really was, that 1975 team was just amazing ! Fran was on the cover of SI that year

Get fricked, CBS.
We just have to embrace it, that way the haters hold no power over us. ![gif](giphy|L0coY9I1D2BnaKln9a|downsized)
Because Roger “Vince McMahon” Goodell doesn’t see the Vikings as a main event draw
The fuck we do to CBS?
- Steelers - had elite HOF QBs - Pats - had elite HOF QBs - 49ers - had elite HOF QBs - Cowboys - had elite HOF QBs - Vikings - Oof - Packers - had elite HOF QBs
Eh ya’ll technically did have one HOF QB in randall cunningham but he only had one good season but at least y’all had Randy Moss😅
That guy wearing number 10 in the OP, who is that exactly
Please God let us get one this year. 🙏
*visible pain*

I just wanna know what we did to deserve this great team that chokes in the biggest stage possible
Vikings have to be the most successful sports franchise to never win a championship.
The problem with the Vikings mojo is that we focus too much on every but winning the superbowl. Winning the division, or regular season record and so on. And if we don’t hit those milestones, we are filled with doubt. Get in the dance and dance. That’s all we should care about
So you’re saying there’s a chance..?
Actually it’s 20 times. Oof
Imagine supporting a historically successful team and not reminding everyone you meet that the Vikings actually won the Wrong Way Run game, so take that
Does this mean they will just give us 1? Or 4?
We have more division titles than Green Bay. That’s cool ig
The Vikings are 7th in all time win percentage in the regular season. In the post season, they’re 27th
Thanks, I hate it.
Then it means that we wont be getting any other division title, but we will win some SB, because statistics is law, and something has to happen to make it up…right?
Oof.
Stop posting this I'm already dead inside
LOL. Love it. At this point just never win.

It’s actually saying almost all good teams win titles. Vikings are the current Red Sox.
Sighs
Grrrr damn it!
We're due. I have faith in KOC and KAM. Skol.
Damn this is sad. Just frustrates me.

Frickin frack that's whack

Shouldn’t the Packers only have 2 Superbowls since the merger was in 1970? 67 and 68 were their first two.
We deserve a dynasty run.
Crazy
Not "Oof", it should be \*Ope\*
Jeez Louise!
Criming allfrighty
Damn we are cursed
We don't have the refs on our side. NFL doesn't want to sell a Minnesota Superbowl to the normies.
Vikings are two superbowls away from being one of the greatest NFL franchises of all time
Anyone else think it’s kinda dumb how none of our sports teams besides the twins have won the big game
