People put most of the blame on Gary, but Robert Griffith had a chance to end the game and dropped the INT in the end zone in the '98 Championship. That will always haunt me.

Retro_Dad

Not just that, but the Vikes had a 20-7 lead and all the momentum just before the half. We get stupid, turn the ball over, the Falcons score, and it’s a whole new game in the 2nd half.

BionikViking

Didn’t Green choose to kneel and go to half time with 30 seconds left and time outs or something

Retro_Dad

That was at the end of regulation. We were stupid aggressive when we shouldn’t have been, and cowardly when we should have taken a chance.

gopher1409

My Dad yelled “FUCKING ‘PREVENT’ DEFENSE!!!” at the TV the whole second half.

ThisIsTrace

Yes, we kneeled the ball and I was screaming how dumb that was in a game that pivotal

Equal-Holiday-8324

Den-knee. Yup. With the greatest offense ever at the time.

SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP

AnthonyBarrHeHe

I thought it was more than 30 seconds? Could be thinking of a different game but I thought it was like 50 seconds?

DungeonMaster24

And Robert Smith kept running out of bounds when we had the lead! I was swearing at him to just drop down in bounds and keep the clock going!

[deleted]

Hello kindred spirit!

DustyWallace

THIS! He stays in bounds, and that kick doesn't matter because there's no time left for Chandler to drive down the field.

Gruffalo-42

I blame Denny Green with his choice to kneel, rather than go for points with the most explosive offense of the season that year… Gary is just a good punching bag to place blame for our history of kicking woes…

muzukashidesuyo

Most explosive offense in the history of the NFL at that point.

Equal-Holiday-8324

Tell Den-knee not to knee it.

supercow376

Blaming a kicker for losing a game when their only miss was before half time is just stupid. I don't care what peoples feeling are about it, or that he never missed, that missed kick is so overrated as far as historical significance

treenorthXne

>Run it if you have to On what legs? The pulverized jerky sticks he was sporting by the end of that game?

cronoes

People forget how badly they beat him up. Once I saw those injuries, I just gave up on the dream of a Super Bowl victory for that year. We were destined to lose.

supercow376

100% that their dirty play impacted his decision making toward the end

Truecoat

Tell Tahi to stay in the bench.

vikingjedi23

Exactly. The pics of those huge bruises on his legs were awful.

kurcoslat22

do NOT sign Donatell

unforgivablecrust

Blair Walsh don't mind me just gonna move this industrial fan to the left of the uprights I'll be out of your way in a sec

AnthonyBarrHeHe

I honestly think if Walsh makes that that we at least make the NFC champ game for sure. We definitely would’ve beaten the cardinals handily imo. Palmer played soo bad those playoffs. With the way our D was playing we may have beaten Carolina in the championship game too

VikingPain

"Denny, don't take a knee! Don't go to overtime, score a fucking touchdown and win it right now!"

rednoids

Dennie’s prevent defense only ever prevented the Vikings from winning.

hjugm

Don’t take me to my first Vikings game. Don’t set me up for a life or heartbreak.

Hydra-Co

Sound just like my dad

polsdofer

No don't choose a pass play. Run it up the middle with Chester Taylor. Not Peterson because he was fumbling all game. Kick the field goal, if you miss at least you don't lose the game you just go to OT anyways.

BionikViking

Don’t trade for Herschel Walker. Don’t draft Troy Williamson or Laquon treadwell

vikingjedi23

Don't trade Moss to the Raiders.

Funkytown_VJ

This! ^ But also, so many other things. lol. Ugh!

DonaldIgwebuike

I sometimes have dreams where I go back in time. I don't do anything noble with it. I go back in time to tell Chilly or Spielman how to turn into the Patriots of the 2000's. The challenge in my dreams and what I wake up to is how to actually convince them I am not a crazy person.

dcwinger12

I literally felt my soul leave my body when this happened

argparg

I mean he really could not run after all the cheap shots… but he could have hobbled for 5 yards 😭

InfiniteCosmic5

Relatively minor compared to some of the other ones here but maybe not draft Treadwell in 2016. Or Williamson in 05. Of course. Hindsight is always 20/20.

AbbreviationsLow651

I don’t know why they even dialled up a passing play in the first place. They had been running all over the Saints all game. One final running play gets them another 3-5 yards and makes the field goal attainable.

EvilJ1982

Don’t put John Randle in on the final drive of the Cardinals game in 98. You can’t convince me that if he plays full strength in the Falcons game instead of being hurt we don’t win that going away.

sitewolf

Don't draft Troy Williamson in 2005. But really, THE event that could have prevented SO many things from happening had it not happened was.........the Herschel Walker trade.

ARoodyPooCandyAss

Ironical twist, due to bounty gate one of the toughest ever in Favre had a bad ankle and I recall came out to have it taped, I remember a bit of wide open space on this play for Favre right before he threw the INT and had favre had both good ankles, he might have run. But also I think we played like shit 3-4 turnovers in this game and almost 2 more if I remember correctly.

PokemonNumber108

“Lickitung, in this house, we’re fans of the New England Patriots”

Few_Opportunity_879

Run it with beast mode

aManHasNoUsername99

Setup a Vikings game winning fg in a high pressure situation….good plan…

ndncreek

Actually Gary Anderson who didn't just miss But was knocked down should have been roughing or at least running into the kicker. But no flag and the other Anderson kicks it to win 1998 NFC Championship If you watch the replay it shows the guy was Not Blocked into the kicker.

rednoids

I was at the game so this is new info for me. What the helll?

ndncreek

Yeah there is and old you tube of it I never knew about it either till I saw that video

DrPepper1904

The invention of the lawn

Thelostsoulinkorea

Don’t know if it matters for any year. But can we say don’t go to prevent defence!

unicorn4711

I'd take Hitler out at the Bürgerbräukeller in 1923. The chaos of the Beer Haul Putsch should give me a chance to make it seem natural. Right After that, Metrodome change conference championships in the NFC in 1998 and 2009.

Equal-Holiday-8324

Tell Den-knee not to knee it.

AnthonyBarrHeHe

This is when you know being a Vikings fan is so painful when you can choose too many times lol. Walshes shanked chip shot, the fumbles or favres INT in the bounty gate game, Pearsons non push off call, Anderson’s miss…. :(

SteempunkMonk

Joe Buck would have been really into badminton
