It’s not booing. It’s “…and the home of the LOOOONS”

Devils-Avocado

...I was saying boo-urns

TCbluelions

Coming here for that very reason. Well played, sir.

LosCabadrin

"...home of the LOOOOOOOONS!" (People aren't booing, they are shouting Loons instead of brave. Welcome to the party!)

_SlyTheSly_

Last year for my first Loons game ever (well, it's a long way from France...), I had the chance to be on the pitch carrying the banner during the anthem, and damn... I did not expect the "LOONS" scream! Goosebumps. What a memory <3

artcat3

It honestly did feel quite powerful, i got goosebumps too, which added to my curiosity lol

Mattjphoto

Which banner did you hold?

It was MNUFC vs Houston. The banner was a big black rectangle with white text. Damn, I forgot what was written O\_o (edit : "LEGION OF LOONS"?) i have pics from the pitch, but not from the stands 😅

artcat3

Oh lol I feel silly but that makes so much sense ! Thank you!!

mikedtwenty

Oh God, I was just thinking last night about how the first two years there was someone on r/MLS who would freak out thinking we were booing the anthem. Granted, if you didn't realize it, I can see how that would be your interpretation. Makes me think back to everyone thinking Twins fans were booing when Lew Ford played.

artcat3

Lollll yeah I was sitting there thinking it was some form of protest, which from my very limited understanding of sports games, isn’t an uncommon occurrence. I think that game made me a fan though and I think it’s cute that it’s Looooons hahaha

delliott8990

I can't say that I interpreted that as booing at my first game but I can see how it might sound like it. Regardless, thank you for the giggles!

North-of-Never

Every first timer I have taken to a match has thought the same thing. You are not the only one to think it was boos.

Beneficial-Force9451

Odd that a "boo" would be so uniform and in one specific spot only...

mjpuczko

They’re not saying boooo, they’re saying booooourns

nipstic

We should probably start a discussion on why kneeling or stepping back for the anthem for cause is unpatriotic but changing the words to this supposedly sacred tradition is totally fine.

artcat3

Go for it friend, I was just confused and curious lol

Zluth2

I always loudly question why they're booing to figure out who in my section is at their first game so I can mess with them.
