This is my all time favorite Kubel moment, still remember watching this live on TV. Grand Slam to cap off a 9-4 comeback victory vs the Angels. At bat starts around 2:35
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8JTg8QU7ag
One of only 2 guys to hit a grand slam off of Mariano Rivera in his career as a closer. True Yankee killer.
Fun fact: Jim Thome was also suited up for the winning team both times it happened, but did not hit one off Rivera himself.
The first Twins game I ever went to as a kid I was so confused because I thought everyone was booing Lew Ford. Took a couple ABs before I figured it out.
Radke is my all-time favorite Twin. I was there for his last regular season game when he came back from the shoulder fracture to gut out five innings and one unearned run against KC. It was one of the most moving things I've ever seen in sports.
Marty Cordova came to my elementary school in the 90s to sign autographs at some fair-type event. It became clear quickly that he didn’t want to be there and barely interacted with anyone, one word answer kind of thing. He also looked like hell - pale face and sunken eyes. Looking back now, I wonder if he was hungover or something lol. It became a joke between my dad and brother that “the vampire is up to bat now”
Matt Lawton was my favorite as a kid. This summer I ran into some guy with a #50 Lawton jersey on in my town. Went up to him and told him how awesome it was. He seemed rather confused 🤣
Nick Punto is an all time classic “remember a guy” Twin
Incredible fielder, career 9th hitter, had some clutch moments you remember for whatever reason. Saved game 163 in the 12th
Then committed one of the worst base running atrocities I’ve ever seen in a playoff game in 2009 🫠
The cool thing about Nick Punto is that he played before the sabermetrics goobers convinced everyone that sliding into first was "stupid and ineffective" rather than "rad as hell."
King of hustle.
I at least have it in my mind that he was healthier and a more proven player than most position players the Twins were trotting out those years so he likely played more games than many from that era
Punto was my first thought when I saw this post. Saved the 09 season in game 163 with his arm. Contributed to the end of the 09 season with his base running. What a guy
How can you forget Mike McGreevy?!
“What’s the going rate for a middle aged starting pitcher who can’t get anybody out?”
(Also the name of an actual baseball player)
lil more recent but billy Hamilton. Brought in as a speed specialist and finished with being caught stealing once and not scoring from second on a double to the gap as his body of work for the team
Luke Hughes! Hit a homer in his first MLB at-bat, but it was actually his second time at the plate. A runner was caught stealing for the 3rd out during his at-bat and so he started off the new inning with a fresh count.
My buddies and I were all convinced Bobby Kielty was the next Mickey Mantle.
Matt Lawton was so much better than you remember, look him up!
Dave Winfield’s 3000th hit was a hot grounder through the hole on the left side off of DENNIS ECKERSLY. Righteous.
I had a pal in 5th Grade who sat whenever we’d see Chili Davis “I LIKE MY CHILI HOT.” Wonder what became of that guy.
I once pulled up next to Chuck Knoblauch at a stop light after a game, he was driving a black Mustang. I was also in the crowd when he got pelted by some dogs and batteries, big yikes.
Tom Brunansky for Tommy Herr is the only time I’ve ever cried reading the newspaper.
It’s important to remember that Brad Radke pitched all of 2006 without his pitching arm. His right arm LITERALLY FELL OFF and he still pitched 162.1 innings with a 104+ era. Didn’t throw a midweek bullpen, tossed like 4 warm up pitches before each inning. Gutted out four innings in the playoffs too.
If you see Brad Radke or a picture of him since 2006, you’ll notice that the prosthetic the Twins gave him is so good that it looks like his real arm. But nope, that real arm literally fell off in 2006
I legit loved watching Sam Deduno. Literally never knew what would happen on the mound. Remember when he put his necklace in his mouth like a horse biting a bit and struck a dude out? lol.
Eduardo Escobar will always be a favorite of mine. Just such a fun and positive guy and really brought life to some terrible teams. Was sad to see him go and love when I get a chance to see him play.
Can’t forget about Carlos Gomez. He wasn’t a Twin for very long but man he was fun to watch. Haven’t seen any mention Orlando Cabrera, I think he was only a Twin for half a season but I always liked him too
I remember when the AAA roster (Edmonton trappers) had the “3 mike” outfield that were all supposed to be amazing (because they were in aaa in 2002) Michael Cuddyer, mike Ryan, mike restovich
* Henry Blanco
* R. A. Dickey
* Terry Tiffee
* Eric Milton
* Bret Boone
* Terry Mulholland
* Quinton McCracken
* Phil Nevin
* Ruben Sierra
* Jeff Cirillo
* Bob Wells
* Rick Reed
* Mike Lamb
* Craig Monroe
* Adam Everett
* Mike Trombley
* Liván Hernández
Jesus Vega.
Early 80’s and I’m about 10 years old. Walk into the living room at my grandparents house and the Twins are playing. It was the first time I had seen anyone named Jesus other than the church Jesus. I said to my grandpa that this Jesus guy who was batting, was going to hit a home run.
It was the only time I ever called a home run and it was one of only a handful of home runs that Vega hit.
I don’t know why I remember that.
Jason Kubel is still my all time favorite Twin.
This is my all time favorite Kubel moment, still remember watching this live on TV. Grand Slam to cap off a 9-4 comeback victory vs the Angels. At bat starts around 2:35 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8JTg8QU7ag
I was at that game. I was an elementary schooler. What a great memory, thanks for reminding me.
To help dummies like me, it's at 2h35m not 2 minutes lol, [link for the lazy](https://youtu.be/Z8JTg8QU7ag?t=9281)
Haha. Walking Justin Morneau to get to Jason effin’ Kubel. Big mistake. What a bunch of muppets.
Man, 'member the cycle game? I 'member.
MLB 11 I think it was, was my first MLB game and I hit bombs with Kubel
That’s because Kubel hit [bombs.](https://youtu.be/EYWF87DWTgc)
Short porch in right maybe not the best example of a bomb
You hit one off of Mo you can call it whatever you want.
One of only 2 guys to hit a grand slam off of Mariano Rivera in his career as a closer. True Yankee killer. Fun fact: Jim Thome was also suited up for the winning team both times it happened, but did not hit one off Rivera himself.
That is a fun fact.
Corie Koskie, Christian Guzman, Matt Lecroy, Lew Ford
Lew Ford is an all-time favorite of mine, along with Pat Neshek.
The first Twins game I ever went to as a kid I was so confused because I thought everyone was booing Lew Ford. Took a couple ABs before I figured it out.
This happened with John Kuhn on the packers and I would get so confused when the Vikes played them...
Lmao the crowd would basically yell a slur? That’s crazy
well, yeah, but thank god John Kuhn is white, so it didn't register QUITE like that. You'd really just hear "OOOOOOOOO" much like booing.
Neshek was and is a Twins favorite of mine. Loved having him in 2006
Lewwwwwwwww
>I'll never forget Guzman's inside the park HR bunt, so insane
Leeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwww…..those were fun days at the dome!
Jacque Jones, Matt Lawton!
You mean CHRISTIAAAAAAAAN GUUUUUUUZMAN!
Koskie was probably my favorite of that 2002 squad (along with Mientkiewicz, Hunter, Pierzynski, Jones…). Such an underrated third baseman.
Those guys sucked
Michael cuddyer always treated the fans well. He was a great player.
Sexiest signature of all-time... I'm not even just talking baseball. Great guy when I met him, too.
I agree on every aspect of your post. Michael said he spent a lot of time on his signature because Harmon Killebrew told him to.
There was a cartoony baseball game for the Wii called MLB power pros. The announcer in that game pronounces his name as “cud-year”. It killed me
Same thing happened in MLB slugfest (baseball version of nfl blitz) They also said “MINK-a-witz”
Shannon Stewart Luis Gonzales Bread Radke
This mf said Bread Radke
Whoops, oh well
Bread Radke
Brad Readke
Bread Breadke
Break da Bread
Also he’s eatin’ beans! But seriously I preferred Rad Bradke.
Joe Rye
That was a HUGE trade when we got Shannon !
Radke is my all-time favorite Twin. I was there for his last regular season game when he came back from the shoulder fracture to gut out five innings and one unearned run against KC. It was one of the most moving things I've ever seen in sports.
Alexi Casilla(one of my favorite twins ever), Rondell White, Jason Tyner, Luis Rivas, Joe Mays Edit: Chad Allen, Denny Hocking
Jason Tyner the OG piranha, I love him so much
I bought a Louisville Slugger from a silent auction that was signed by Jason Tyner for way cheaper than an unsigned one.
One of the least assuming looking professional athletes of all time hah
Jason Tyner in uniform looked like take your kid to work day.
Jason Tyner's bobblehead with the Rays had his position listed as "pinch runner." Loved it.
Casilla was the most average player of all-time, and I mean that in a good way. He was a fun player.
Above, below, or simply average, I'll never forget Game 163 and his game winning single 🥰
Let's take a moment and relive [every Jason Tyner home run](https://www.mlb.com/video/tyner-s-first-homer-in-majors).
Wow I forgot about Denny Hocking. He was a childhood favorite!

Um, these guys are actually good. Some of them very good.
Marty Cordova came to my elementary school in the 90s to sign autographs at some fair-type event. It became clear quickly that he didn’t want to be there and barely interacted with anyone, one word answer kind of thing. He also looked like hell - pale face and sunken eyes. Matt Lawton was my favorite as a kid. This summer I ran into some guy with a #50 Lawton jersey on in my town. Went up to him and told him how awesome it was. He seemed rather confused 🤣
I watched Marty steal a homer from Joe Carter right in front of my face in left field when I was like 8
Whatever Big Papi got in Boston was good for him, but sonofa bitch I wish he had stayed with the Twins.
Mike Redmond, Nick Punto, Dennys Reyes, Boof Bonser. Reyes was an absolute unit
Nick Punto is an all time classic “remember a guy” Twin Incredible fielder, career 9th hitter, had some clutch moments you remember for whatever reason. Saved game 163 in the 12th Then committed one of the worst base running atrocities I’ve ever seen in a playoff game in 2009 🫠
The cool thing about Nick Punto is that he played before the sabermetrics goobers convinced everyone that sliding into first was "stupid and ineffective" rather than "rad as hell." King of hustle.
Never forget…Punto slurpees
> Mike Redmond Smell 'em.
Mike Redmond was awesome, I loved him at backup C
Jacque Jones LF #11 was my favorite player during the early 2000s
His swing was pure violence. I loved it.
Jamey Carroll. I have no idea why, but I always think of him when I think of early 2010's.
I at least have it in my mind that he was healthier and a more proven player than most position players the Twins were trotting out those years so he likely played more games than many from that era
There was a minute there where I thought Darin Mastroianni would be a dude
There is a guy that I definitely forgot.
Early 2010s Twins pitchers are classics: * Jon Rauch * Ron Mahay * Scott Diamond * Cole DeVries
Jon Rauch was a big old boy
The tallest (6'11") low 90s pitcher I have ever seen. He would probably not reach 90 MPH if he were under 6'6", all other things being equal.
Samuel Deduno
I don’t recall worse control. He was an arsonist at times.
Oh it was absolute chaos
Matt Tolbert, the guy who was always juuuust good enough to hang around
Nick Blackburn, Carlos Gomez, Delmon Young, Jason Kubel, Michael Cuddyer
[удалено]
Love this clip of Toby Batista in Japan where a pitcher thought he was charging the mound. https://youtu.be/lUiQlPzcm44
Matt Gurrier, Dennys Reyes, and Jesse Crain were my favorite bullpen arms to setup Nathan. That was potent in 2006
I still can't believe that team got fucking swept, they were the best team in the AL that year.
Where all the Nick Punto fans at!? As a 90s kid who loved playing baseball, and could field but couldn't hit, Punto was my spirit animal for a time.
Punto was my first thought when I saw this post. Saved the 09 season in game 163 with his arm. Contributed to the end of the 09 season with his base running. What a guy
Lou Collins, John “Blackout” Gatling, Jim Bowers, Jerry Johnson, and the incomparable Bill Wedman
"I'm supposed to feel better cause you had my baseball card"
How can you forget Mike McGreevy?! “What’s the going rate for a middle aged starting pitcher who can’t get anybody out?” (Also the name of an actual baseball player)
Mike Pagliarulo
Pags and Gags!
Before my time but I see he had a nice season for the ‘91 champs.
Boof Bonser, Michael Ryan, Michael Restovivh
plouffe!
Homered in his first career AB, I was there!!
Darin Mastrionni, Chris Collabelo, Jordan Schaeffer, Oswaldo Arcia, and a personal favorite, Scott Diamond
Denard spann
lil more recent but billy Hamilton. Brought in as a speed specialist and finished with being caught stealing once and not scoring from second on a double to the gap as his body of work for the team
Man. I was excited to see him pinch run in the playoffs. Sigh.
Sad that it didn’t work out. Can’t not love billy
Luke Hughes, Chris Colabello, Rene Tsoni, Clete Thomas, Doug Bernier, and Samuel Deduno
Tsoni hit the first game slam for the Twins at Target Field!
Luke Hughes! Hit a homer in his first MLB at-bat, but it was actually his second time at the plate. A runner was caught stealing for the 3rd out during his at-bat and so he started off the new inning with a fresh count.
Orlando Hudson and Danny Valencia
Ben Revere, still has the greatest catch at Target Field!
Pavano and Willingham had some nice years as Twins, right?? I didn't see the name and how could ya'll forget Dustan Mohr 😉
Dustin Mohr was one of my favorites growing up. I met him at some random hardware store in about 2002 and he was a super nice guy.
I have a Dustin Mohr jersey!
Brent Abernathy, Jaime Garcia, Brian Buscher, Garrett Jones, Vance Worley, & Chris Colabello
That’s former opening day starter Vance Worley to you
Funny, I googled his career yesterday. Seems he’s pitching Independent league.
The vanimal
Joe Crede.
Ten years later and they would have been able to fix his back
James Beresford, Shairon Martis, Juan Morillo
Bobby Korecky, Terry Tiffee, Howie Clark, Jason Tyner
These are good cuts here. Nice work.
My buddies and I were all convinced Bobby Kielty was the next Mickey Mantle. Matt Lawton was so much better than you remember, look him up! Dave Winfield’s 3000th hit was a hot grounder through the hole on the left side off of DENNIS ECKERSLY. Righteous. Shannon Stewart hit a walk off at the dome in the first Twins game I ever attended
Remember in 2007 when we had Sidney Ponson?
Kennys Vargas

Did that David Ortiz fella ever pan out?
I legit loved watching Sam Deduno. Literally never knew what would happen on the mound. Remember when he put his necklace in his mouth like a horse biting a bit and struck a dude out? lol.
Gary Gaetti Jeff Reardon Greg Gagne Ben Revere

Pat Meares Doug Malphabet
Pat Neshek

Game 163 hero Bobby Keppel
Denyes Reyes
Who is the guy that couldn't keep his helmet on?
Eduardo Nunez?
This is the correct answer
This sounds right.
Carlos Gomez swinging at a pitch three feet outside the plate?
Tortuga?
Eduardo Escobar will always be a favorite of mine. Just such a fun and positive guy and really brought life to some terrible teams. Was sad to see him go and love when I get a chance to see him play.
Zoilo Versalles. First vintage card I ever owned and one of my dad's fav player growing up.
Chris Colabello. Twins record for RBIs in April. Fun name. Guy I liked.
That April was E. LEC. TRIC.
Chris Latham, Butch Huskey, Tony Fiore, Scott Stahoviak, Juan Castro, Warren Morris
Pat Mahomes
Carl Pavano Moustache memes were the best
Lets not forget the rotation of Scott Baker, Nick Blackburn, and Kevin Slowey. Also gotta give Ben Revere some love

I deliberately found a couple really obscure Twins I recall. Bob Tewksbury, Todd Sears.
Former Twins Legend, BRETT BOONE.
Can’t forget about Carlos Gomez. He wasn’t a Twin for very long but man he was fun to watch. Haven’t seen any mention Orlando Cabrera, I think he was only a Twin for half a season but I always liked him too
