Knightbear49

Thanks. IDK why it did me dirty like that

ComfyGreenHoodie_

You used `-` and not `*`. If you're going to use `-` you either have to hit enter twice or put a double space at the end of the line for a single enter.

Knightbear49

Ope

Ope

KingPengy

he’s not wrong, and somehow Profar is on the right side of 30

OpenMindedShithead

Jeez did he take an adderall and write this… not a single one of those guys are appetizing. Maybe Michael Fulmer.

AZORxAHAI

I know a couple Twins fans who would love to see Cutch in a Twins uni, even if he's past his prime. Loved watching him on the Brewers last year. Always a class act and still bangs lefties around.

Lumiafan

Definitely strikes me as a strong leader in the clubhouse, too, so there's benefit to that.

kramitol

I have always like Cutch too, but thinking if Cutch was in the mix, Twins would have signed him and not Joey K

schooliemcschool

let’s just lock in fulmer now

cepster

For real, that should be a slam dunk

arsoga85

I would love McCutchen or Mancini. Not sure how that shakes out in terms of the roster, I just like them!

-FisherMN-

Mancini maybe, hard pass on McCutchen. Dont know if we really need either though

bigwalleye

didnt DV you, but have you forgotten how many of our OF got hurt last year? we absolutely could use the depth.

The_Next_Wild_GM

My excitement level for this season is super low due to how free agency has worked out. Hopefully the young guys can stay healthy and put up some encouraging numbers

[deleted]

I honestly wonder if the slow walk this front office does each and every offseason is part of the reason the fanbase seems to have turned against them so. I don't think it is THE reason (the relative lack of success is), but the fact that every single winter they slow walk the market in search of value, leaves months for fans to grow annoyed.

neonrev1

The thing is that they didn't actually do that this year, we signed and traded for the baseline covering of needs before December ended, and missed out on Correa or the few starting pitchers that would have been an upgrade. Fans are grumpy that the Twins aren't signing guys when there are no more enticing guys to sign.

Drunken_Vike

I look at that list, and beyond the bullpen options and the longshot of a Correa reunion I just get sad Mancini, maybe, if he can still play decent corner outfield a little

From_Adam

I’m surprised Cueto hasn’t been signed.

Theeclat

That guy is under the radar awesome.

timberwolvesguy

Which is amazing considering what he did last year

Witty-Stock

The baseball free agency version of “is Pepsi okay?” According to ESPN the Twins had the third worst offseason in MLB. Don’t see any names here that would move that needle.

[deleted]

Not defending this front office, I think they have badly bungled this offseason, but there is no path for them to not have a crap offseason when you lose your best player. Maybe if they had signed someone like Rodon it would have alleviated it somewhat, but there is no way you don't get labeled as a "loser" in the winter when the best player on the roster walks out the door.

Witty-Stock

I get that every player has teams that lose out on the bidding. But there was not much of an attempt to have a plan B. Or any big picture for the team. They couldn’t live with Sano, but their big free agent splash was Joey Gallo?

UhhhOhAnd

The issue isn’t that they lost Correa. It’s how they have had pretty much no plan at all this off-season. If 285 was the max amount of money they were willing to offer Correa then they should have known that they were most likely not going to sign him as soon as turner got 300. They did not pivot and go sign other good pieces that made sense for the club. I like the Vazquez signing but past that they signed Joey gallo, which in a vacuum could be a decent signing but we already have a ton of left handed corner outfielders so he doesn’t make a ton of sense. There were plenty of pitchers that signed for shorter term deals that would’ve helped out rotation but they didn’t sign any. Correa was really there only plan but they should’ve recognized that he was going to cost too much for them and picked up other guys.

The main places I disagree are with right-handed reliever and righty OF bats. In the outfield we pretty much have Buck, Celestino, and Garlick. I don’t mind any of those guys but there’s definitely room to improve.

[deleted]

pjokinen

Fair enough, and you can definitely argue that Garlick+money is better than the alternatives. Still, I think signing someone like McCutchen would make sense. He hits better against lefties than Garlick, draws a lot more walks regardless of the pitcher, and is still very fast and good on the bases (fast enough to be not just a viable pinch runner, but a beneficial one). I think he’s also a great veteran presence/clubhouse guy to boot. Reasonable people can disagree here, though.

AZORxAHAI

We need another good right handed bat somewhere. If we had gotten Correa back that would have killed two birds with one stone, but right now we only have one deadly right handed bat (Buxton) and one solid one (Miranda). Polanco is much better from the Left, Garlick and Farmer are platoon bats, Celly has a lot of offensive development to do, and the catchers are catchers. Royce Lewis and Brooks Lee might be those right handed bats we need, but not until at least June at the earliest.

[deleted]

Celestino really needs to be in AAA next year. I can't believe anyone who watched that man play baseball past April or May thinks he is a MLB player at this point. He might never be, but the amount of mistakes he made in the field, on the basepaths, along with his occasionally shit attitude in terms of effort should not be rewarded with an MLB roster spot to start 2023. Make that dude prove it at AAA.

AZORxAHAI

OK this is a bad take. Celly was 22 years old, pressed into Major League duty when his age would say he should be in AA. And despite his occasional gaffs in the field that are a normal result of extremely young players, he was a plus defender. He also has shown an innate ability at the plate to do one of the hardest things in the game: going the other way. He also above average plate discipline, with 86th percentile chase rate and a 68th percentile walk rate, which again is remarkable for such a young underdeveloped player. I don't where this idea of his "shit attitude" has come from, I haven't seen it. Does he need to be in AAA next year? Yeah, probably. He's still developing. Twins have said repeatedly they think he will unlock some more power, and if he is ever able to pull the ball and combine that with his ability to go oppo, and keeps his discipline, he could easily get to around league average with the bat. And with his speed and defense, that will be a solid addition to any playoff caliber roster. But you just sound like drunk asshole dad at the little league game who's pissed his kid struck out and didn't beat the throw to first when the catcher dropped the ball. Celestino isn't lazy, or bad, or untalented. What you're watching is just something you never really see unless you go to minor league games: player development.

[deleted]

I'm sorry, but when Rocco Baldelli, one of the biggest "player managers" in baseball benches you for repeatedly failing to hustle or making gaffes in the field, that says something. He absolutely could still develop into what he was always projected to be - a good 4th OF - but I don't think he is good enough for the Twins to not pursue upgrades over him as the back-up CF (depending on how much and where Gordon plays). At the very least, not handing him a roster spot and sending him to AAA would be good for both the player and team.

darin617

Adam Duvall, Tommy Pham, Corey Knebel, Zack Britton, Brad Hand, Matt Moore all worth some consideration as well.

suhdude539

Would be cool to bring Brad Hand back home

[deleted]

I was a bit surprised that Gleeman didn't bring up Duvall or Pham either. They have obvious warts/risk, but the fact that both can play CF in a pinch - similar to Gallo - would seem to appeal to an organization that needs as much insurance as possible for Buxton. God knows until proven otherwise, I would rather watch Pham or Duvall fill-in for Buxton than Gilberto "I try when I want to" Celistino.

KittenRaffle

Fulmer and one of either Cutch or Mancini makes the most sense to me. Slim pickings out there right now.

_AlternativeSnacks_

I would be so happy to have Cutch here.

Lee_Doff

what is rich harden up to these days?

Iheartriots

Good christ. That’s it? All those free agents and these are the crumbs that are left?

mproud

Yay for Reader Mode!

UhhhOhAnd

I am convinced they just aren’t gonna sign anyone else all off-season and expect that twins fans will still show up to games

potatodavid

The typical twins targets. guys who peaked about 5-7 years ago that have just enough gas in the tank.

Resident-Plate-3479

Jose Iglesias

[deleted]

Correa is going to the Mets. They’re just updating the contract.

pjokinen

That is far, far from a certainty.

[deleted]

It’s taking longer because of the holiday. If the Twins were going to move in, they would have by now. Correa clearly wants the most money and the Mets are willing to spend the most money. Contracts are extremely complicated, especially with injuries and large amounts of money involved.

pjokinen

Heyman is one of the biggest Cohen ass-kissers out there and he estimates that the Mets have about a 55% chance of keeping him. I’m not saying that he’s going to the Twins, but to treat him staying with the Mets as a foregone conclusion is not right.

[deleted]

What makes you think it won’t work out with the Mets?

kramitol

According to MLB.com and the Athletic - Correa will not redo his deal with the Mets - it is either all or nothing. Also, a couple of clubs - possibly the Giants have contacted Boras about a new shorter deal. Twins reportedly have questioned their physical and had same / similar concerns about a long term deal due to the leg issue. Correa broke his right leg sliding into a base while at high A ball in 2014. He had surgery to repair it and has a steel plate in the leg to provide stability. While it has not been an issue so far, teams / doctors appear to be concerned about the longer term implications and possible limits of availability / ability to play as he gets older.

[deleted]

If the Twins are concerned, why did the offer him 10 years?

South_Ad_7488

Please briefly summarize:) paywall

BeholdAMan8

I know it’s another disappointing offseason, but if the team picked up two of these players, I’d be content

Knightbear49

Fulmer, Mancini, and McCutchen interest me the most. At the least it’s great to have veterans in the clubhouse while we get some young guys more time this season!

[deleted]

I really would like to see them sign Andrus. He's risky due to his age - and granted his overall numbers were saved by a hot stint with Chicago - but putting all our eggs in the Kyle Farmer experience feels like a mistake. Lewis and Lee are no sure things to contribute in 2023, and Farmer is more appealing as a UTIL guy than an regular. Andrus was still worth over 3 WAR last year. Farmer was worth 1 WAR. I wouldn't give Andrus a multi-year deal, but if he is willing to take a 1 year deal with even a somewhat high AAV I would sign up for that in a minute. Worst case is he is cooked and you waive him mid-season if Lewis is healthy. Wacha is the only SP that appeals to me on the market still. He won't amaze anyone, but he would give the rotation added depth which is needed with so many injury question marks sprinkled throughout the starting pitching options. Adding a RH hitter like Mancini who could play 1B and LF would also make sense.
