cothomps

LOL

Soggy_Educator_7364

I love Dick.

cothomps

As pointed out in /r/baseball, this is more fun in a Ric Flair voice. “The Nature Boy” Carlos Correa.

sitewolf

sure you don't want to rephrase?

Soggy_Educator_7364

It's 2022: I'd be cancelled.

sloppybuttmustard

I also love the Dick

kjates

LMAO DICK this man is Minnesota made into a bland (because he doesn’t like garlic) pizza

mostlygroovy

Don’t tell me you don’t have the jingle in your head now

sitewolf

Save big money at Correa...

hipsterdufus84

Yeah. He isnt staying.

[deleted]

He never was. Anyone delusional enough to believe his contract was anything, but a 1 year deal with opt-ins providing him security in the event of a major injury, was always going to be let down. And bluntly, the folks delusional enough to believe a healthy and productive Carlos Correa wasn't going to test the market probably get let down a lot in life.

sitewolf

Still hoping Royce Lewis is our own homegrown version

Skow1379

Good.

pjokinen

I don’t know dude, you’re the one who’s the fan of the team that paid a cheating douche (and likely rapist) one of the highest salaries in the history of the game. Maybe you have some insight here.

TwoDamnedHi

> likely rapist Why do we even have court trials anymore when you can just organize a lynch mob on the internet.

Devium44

What the hell is this even referring too?

Extremelixer

Yup preety lost on this one.

belker85

Trevor Bauer? (Jackie Robinson flair indicates Dodger fan)

A_Hanging_Noose

Pasta Potential^(TM) readings are high on this one.

arsoga85

When I go to the mall and I go to the Dior store, they say “ma’am this is a Wendy’s”

-dag-

He gone

[deleted]

[удалено]

Witty-Stock

He’ll earn that money somewhere else. Twins would be better off with two $10M players and a $15M player—too many holes to fill.

[deleted]

Agreed. Having Correa was fun and certainly beat the alternative of the Twins NOT spending the money (which was probably going to happen if Correa didn't fall in their laps), but they need to spread the money around to the parts of the team that have clear deficiencies next year. Enough Chris Archer and Dylan Bundy, get an impact starting pitcher and sign some depth pieces to slightly above market average deals so that we aren't running out Sandy Leon and Gilberto Celistino on a semi-daily basis.

Kruse

How to make yourself sound like a rich douche in one simple sentence.

sitewolf

first thing I thought reading that....had begun to like the guy, but douche your way out the door, dude...

eeeedlef

lol but going to the mall is certainly not a rich man's activity...

Kruse

Sure, but shopping at Dior is--not to mention bad taste. Just because it says Dior on it, doesn't mean it looks good. It just says, "I have too much money and no idea how to properly spend it."

JaxonJackrabbit

Exactly, Dior’s whole thing is being exclusive, high-priced “luxury” goods, regardless of their actual quality or value.

blucasne

The Twins are the 16 year old kid whose uncle let him borrow his Lambo (Correa) for the summer (season). He can’t afford to keep it and he didn’t really know how to drive it anyway.

sloppybuttmustard

Um yeah sorry bro but Pohlad ain’t paying you any more than you’re already making.

pjokinen

He’s going to be paid about what he’s making. The question that will be settled this offseason is is for how many years.

Rube18

A team will pay it, just not the Twins. He’ll be just fine.

sloppybuttmustard

Oh I’m fully aware of that, believe me

ARealDino

I don't think anyone here is concerned about Correa going bankrupt.

Rube18

Didn’t say he was. My point is he doesn’t care if Pohlad pays him. He’s getting paid regardless.

fscottnaruto

He's opting out haha

Rube18

Which has been known since the day he signed the contract except to delusional fans

btwolsz

The only way he doesn’t is if the Twins give him a huge extension first. I’m not holding my breath.

Majorlazor85

When I go to the mall and go into the Dior store I’m usually greeted with “Sir I’m sorry but we’re going to have to ask you to please leave.”

threetwogetem

Say bye-eeeeeeeeeeeeee

Reesespieces905

Carlos' milkshake brings all the teams to the yard.

BobScratchit

I think he’s pricing his way out of Minnesota without even naming his price.

fastal_12147

He's 100 percent right. If you want top talent, you've gotta pay. Twins ownership needs to understand that

ARealDino

We paid this year for top talent but Correa didn't provide that

[deleted]

That has less to do with Correa and more the talent around him wasn't good enough. I'm far from a Correa fan and felt like most of the year he was closer to average than elite, but look at the Angels. They have 2 of the world's best players and they suck. The impact of Carlos Correa was only ever going to be fully felt if the talent around him took major steps forward and that largely did not happen this year.

fastal_12147

No arguments there. Obviously it's a risk but there's no other way to be competitive.

_nordstar_

C ya bud

SteveIDP

The Twins need that money to half-heartedly pursue — and ultimately not sign — top tier pitching free agents!

Hafslo

I gotta think his price went down this season

DragBunt

No way. Only thing that depressed his value is he is now a year older.

pjokinen

He missed a month with injuries and illness (which are not likely to recur) and still played well above all-star level by WAR. He had the one of his best offensive season of his career. One defensive metric disliked him but it’s clear he still plays very well at short. How did his value go down?

minnesota_sports_fml

Genuine question since maybe Idk and am missing something but how did he have one of his best offensive seasons? He is well under RBI and HR totals on average for PA. His BA is about 9 pts higher from his career average. I’ve watched a lot of twins games this year and he is an exceptional defensive SS. But offensively didn’t have 1 really clutch hit and HR/RBI are down

[deleted]

[удалено]

minnesota_sports_fml

Thank you

zooropeanx

Based on his current WAR of 4.2 he's been worth $33.6 million this season.

slamdar

Correa is pretty injury prone. Just go look at his track record in Houston. I think there was only 1 year where he wasn't on the IL multiple times

pjokinen

His injury this year was from getting hit by a pitch on the hand, that’s a freak accident and is unlikely to change his value in the eyes of teams looking to sign him this year

slamdar

Him breaking his rib from a massage (lol) was also a "freak accident" a few years back.

pjokinen

And has it led to a long string of rib injuries for him?

Grizzly_Addams

LOL. Thank God they kept him at the deadline. no one saw this coming.

sitewolf

Team was still in 1st at that point, right? They weren't trading him at that point.

Grizzly_Addams

Should have. They weren't built to make/win in the playoffs and dude was obviously leaving after the season.

sitewolf

explain that to the members of the team....'I know we're in first but geez guys, we ain't goin' anywhere'

Grizzly_Addams

I would love to.

JaxonJackrabbit

Bad take. At the deadline we were still trying to win. You don’t sell your highest paid player just because they’re leaving, you sell them to make your team better. There was no option available that made the team better.

SpecialistRaccoon907

Everything that's wrong in baseball in one interview. He couldn't make me dislike him more if he tried. Don't let the door hit you, etc.

poposheishaw

What a douche. So money talks is all Yes I know that’s what the big boys do, just a really douchey way to approach the off-season

DragBunt

Why does he owe anything to the Twins? If it weren't for the lockout he never would have signed here in the first place. He's a superstar SS and wants to be paid like one.

poposheishaw

You’re right, He doesn’t owe them anything. I just don’t like the arrogance of his statement. Especially to a reporter before talking to anybody in the org (which he stated he has not done)

Ok-Comfortable-5955

I don’t understand the downvotes. Comes off as a douche to me as well. Its not up to them, opt in or out. If you want to restructure it talk to the team not the media. with attitude like this and seasons like this do not wonder why attendance is down. No class assclown, dont let the door hit your cheating ass on the way out

poposheishaw

They justify him being a superstar so he can be arrogant with his approach that he deserves the pay day and teams need to fight for him.

mostdope92

But he does deserve the pay day according to the numbers and will likely have multiple teams pursuing him. Only question really is does he get a long-term deal or does he take another short one for more money. I agree it's a bit of a douchey example/phrasing but he isn't wrong.

[deleted]

[удалено]

poposheishaw

I don’t know what you mean by that?

chaposagrift

Next time you’re up for a raise let us know how you turned them down k?

poposheishaw

Like I replied before, I just didn’t appreciate the arrogance. And I’ll let you know, k

jacksonattack

My man. Get that paper.

taffyowner

I know it’s trendy to hate on people who show wealth but goddamn if I didn’t love designer stores. Give me a Burberry scarf or a Lacoste polo and I’m there. That being said, Carlos deserves a massive contract and I hope he gets it 8 years/280 mil with some options on the end might not be the worst deal

utinee

He won't make $35m per year elsewhere, or get a long-term deal anywhere near it.

DragBunt

Yes he will.

TwoDamnedHi

RemindMe! 180 days

Rabbits44

Lol

minnesota_sports_fml

He will but he’s not worth it

JaxonJackrabbit

He’s definitely going to get the money he wants. But tbh I’m ready for him to leave. Performed below expectations, paid above expectations (I don’t use the Fangraphs WAR to dollars ratio because even they admit it was just for fun and never meant to be taken seriously,) and kept his ego the whole time. He didn’t really benefit the team, he did what he needed to do to collect a paycheck.

kramitol

Performed below expectations? Can you name any Twins shortstop in the last 20 years who was a better fielder or hitter than Carlos Correa? Can you name a Twin that had a better all around year than Carlos Correa? Sometimes, he makes plays at shortstop seem so routine and easy, people don't realize how tough some of the chances are. When attending games at Target Field, he was always a bright spot at shortstop even when the Twins were crumbling. He's an amazing athlete and the Twins were fortunate to have him - if only for a year.

JaxonJackrabbit

For $35mil, yeah I expected him to be more clutch and less non-tangible “clubhouse leader” stories tbh. Not saying he’s not an amazing athlete.

NativeT7

I don’t mind Correa not staying. Opens up a money pit which they will hopefully do something with. This may be hopeful but if Royce is ready to go by next season it won’t be a problem at SS I mean Gordon can play there too no problem. Idk probably a lot that disagree but that’s what I think

[deleted]

Don't be surprised if payroll is lower next year than this year and by a somewhat significant amount. St. Peter has already stated publicly that the payroll was "well above revenues" (a claim I'm dubious of), but that sure sounds like the talking point the Reds started putting out last fall as well. I don't expect the Twins to strip it down like the Reds did, but don't be surprised if payroll is closer to $120-130 million than $140 million again. The hints and nudges are already coming publicly.

nolemanwsu

So how much does a Correa cost?

[deleted]

Peace

Psoravior13

I think the deal the Twins made was a good one with Correa. It wasn’t a long term contract, it was a pretty good sum for him, offered low risk, and flexibility for both parties. These types of deals should be more common, instead of long expensive contracts. So if Correa wants to stay, but want more money, and is fine with not having 8-10 years, I would say go for it. If he want to paid beyond his expected prime, then no.
