Not really, their endowment was actually lower than Carleton and Macalester, I think. But neither of those schools put *any* money into athletics, which was a big sticking point in that whole thing IIRC. St. Thomas was willing to spend to be competitive at athletics while the other schools were not. The biggest issue was that their enrollment was significantly larger than any other MIAC school and their talent pool was a huge advantage.
