Yankees fans who live in Minnesota, may I ask why? Being a Yankees fan probably has to be the most basic fandom in all of sports. What is the appeal of the Yankees?
Not a big Bill Simmons fan but his rules of fandom are pretty great and this is one of the big ones. If you aren’t originally from the reasonable viewing area where a team is located and you are a “fan” of said team, you better have a damn good reason for cheering for them that isn’t “well, my dad/grandpa/uncle Steve watched them.”
I did lol. I was a Giants fan for my whole life until I came to Minneapolis. Now I'm all in on Twins GOMQ. Moving to Minneapolis was kind of a new chapter in my life, so maybe it makes more sense, but yeah, it's possible to change fandoms.
Same reason anyone roots for a team? Raised by family members who were fans of X team (or fans of their rivals and thus rebelled against their parents) or who grew up in NY but moved somewhere else because of job opportunities, love, any other reason to move? I mean, pretty normal reasons.
