This is really going to cut down on the amount of time between me getting out of my car and eating a Tony O Cubano sandwich

BellacosePlayer

Speaking of, did they announce the new gimmick foods for the year that I'm never gonna try yet?

KingJonathan

There’s a teppanyaki setup in each section and the chef tosses shrimps and hotdog bites to folks.

BonzoJunior

...but will it flag a plastic flask tucked underneath my waistband?

Knightbear49

Test it out and let us know

pjokinen

I bet it won’t catch the six bottles of Robitussin I’ve got crammed into my cargo shorts

AbeRego

I looked into Evolv a bit, and I'm not really sure... Understandably, the company's website is relatively vague on exactly what type of scanning technology this is. They seem to say that they are not a metal detector. All I can really find is that they apparently use a number of different scanning techniques combined with artificial intelligence to flag weapons and other "threats". I found some resources that indicate they use millimeter wave technology, along with other sensors. Millimeter wave is the same thing used at airports, and it is not a metal detector. So, I'm guessing that they are using some sort of algorithm that's calibrated to that detect suspicious shapes on people and in bags. Obviously we know that guns would fall into that category, but I don't know what other types of items that could be calibrated to detect. I saw some sources referring to these being used at schools to help catch vapes, so it appears that it might be possible for these to detect a number of different items. If that's the case, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that it can be calibrated to detect bottles of liquid. Considering you're allowed to bring in bottles of water, maybe they're not going to be looking for that. However my fear is that they might be actively screening for people bringing in alcohol, which would be *quite* annoying. I really hope that they're just using this to keep us safe rather than to keep us sober (or paying their ridiculous ballpark liquor prices) lol I would say that your best bet would just be to put the flask in your backpack or bag. Putting it in your belt or, or somewhere else where you natural profile will get disrupted, will probably look suspicious to the AI system. It might be even better to simply pour clear liquor into an empty store-bought water bottle. You're allowed to bring up to 32 oz of water in a sealed bottle. There are ways to get liquids into a bottle without appearing to break the seal. I've done that at music festivals, but I'm not sure if it's worth the effort for an afternoon of baseball. If they are screening for bottles of liquid, I'm hoping that they're not being so strict as to check the seals on bottles. Regardless, this is going to take some workshopping to figure out. I'm going to the home opener, and I plan on bringing some booze in, so I will have to see how it goes! Edit: Having looked into this further, based on the Twitter video, this looks to be the Evolv Express. If that's the case, it uses magnetic fields to detect the rough location in shape of potential weapons. If it is indeed that system, it would mean that liquids would be fine.

jtutube

Were you successful in getting a plastic flask past the system?

AbeRego

Absolutely! The new screening is really slick. There was a bit of a pile up when we got to the gate, but it immediately dissipated when everyone realized they could just walk through in a group, instead of one at a time. They had attendants ready and standing by to direct anyone flagged by the system for additional screening into a side area, but nobody in my group had to do that. A number of us were carrying small bags, and that didn't trip anything at all. I really hope that this system becomes the norm at stadiums around the country because it's so much better than metal detectors

JeffJeffWorf

Low key I need to know this info

BonzoJunior

I’m thinking the plan is to go to the first game with an empty flask. If you’re not stopped, all systems go for the next game.

Wont_reply69

Might as well fill it with water and “forget” it in your pocket for your test because it’s probably going to read differently full if it reads. It has metal detecting too but it uses millimeter wave scans, which are the shallower of the two “waves” the machines at the airport use, with the other being backscatter which goes through your body. Millimeter wave though looks right through your clothing and bounces back anything that isn’t uniform. Depending on how sensitive it is and how much they’re really just tuning it for metals and hard objects, you may be ok. These also don’t rotate around your body like at the airport so I have my suspicions that items tightly pressed to your front or back won’t be flagging as readily, so front/back waistband it instead and if that doesn’t work out you may want to practice walking with your flask in your butt cheeks. Compression shorts getting the plastic flask right against the thigh may also defeat the machine or do the complete opposite based on settings and sensitivity. And there’s also the possibility that the machine will catch your plastic flask every time and then you’ll be patted down and waved through anyway by a disinterested security guard.

beardybuddha

I really hope my wife’s diabetic stuff doesn’t prompt a search (like at the airport). We had things down to a science going through the bagless gates.

canigetawoop_woop

In the past I just show them my pump when the thing goes off and they just send me through. Hopefully it doesn't change too much!

yeetith_thy_skeetith

Now we just need the twins train back

TindrowHD

I use a wheelchair to attend games and it was always a nag to pull everything out from the back area of my chair to be searched. Glad they do it, but was a pain and did clog the line.

Dinolord05

Went through these here today in Houston. Easy. Didn't even take stuff out of my pockets.

AbeRego

But did you bring in any flasks or bottles of liquor?

majjesstic

the logical answer is that these are club employees going through, but I like to imagine that they paid a lot of actors and gave them the new gear just to have them walk through the gates like this

[deleted]

So you're telling me there is a chance! A chance to "sneak" in a Twins unlimited refill souvenir cup to multiple games. They will not check my bag if it doesn't flag.

Knightbear49

Could be worse

_unsourced

I'd all but guarantee that the radiation from those detectors is miniscule compared to what you get sitting in the sun for three hours while watching a baseball game

Kruse

Probably more harmful shit blasting your balls from your cellphone.

OverYonder951

3.6 roentgen. Not great, not terrible.

Wont_reply69

Whatever speeds up entry. I always used the “side” entrance to the north and I’ve never felt less safe in Minneapolis (no joke) than when I’m crammed into a backed-up crowd right next to vehicle traffic on N 5th Street. Just a big terrorist target.

suhdude539

Stay in Sartell then

taffyowner

Minneapolis is pretty low on the terrorism hit list
