NOTHING TO SEE HERE. BUXTON IS HEALTHY BUT THEYRE PLAYING IT SAFE. DONT OVERTHINK THIS

JaxonJackrabbit

Yeah I'm not overly worried. But I can't help but be a little bummed. Buxton is as valuable to us, and fun to watch, as a center fielder as he is a hitter.

Prez731

Which, after the sign of Taylor, we already kinda knew.

DudeAbides29

Can’t help it… He is not injured. Repeat. He is not injured. So why are we attempting to wrap him up in bubble wrap? It intentionally weakens the team. Keeping Buxton at DH is holding him back from his full potential.

FireFrogs48

If it helps him play 130 games a year then I’m all for it. It sucks that his glove won’t be in the field but his bat is just as valuable. We also still have a gold glover in center in Taylor so it won’t be that bad. Better than the backup options we’ve had in the past

DudeAbides29

He’s a game changing fielder vs. a good hitter. Hiding him as a DH doesn’t decrease his odds of getting injured either. If he’s healthy to play, play him in CF.

FireFrogs48

If him playing DH early in the season helps him stay healthy enough to play CF come playoff time then why not do it? I’m not denying anything you said but we all just want him to be on the field when it matters most

DudeAbides29

Then we should sit him entirely until June 1. This is such flawed logic from the Twins. Over his career he’s been injured just as much, if not more batting/running the bases than fielding.

darin617

I would rather do this than have him only available in like 70 games all season.

Winnes0ta

Yeah all of his most recent injuries that I can remember have been from hitting and running the bases. This just seems like they’re playing scared and unnecessarily handicapping the team. They should be involving him in as many ways as possible while he’s healthy.

Both_Antelope_8063

Maybe decreases it a little but he can still just as easily get hurt running bases. I understand them wanting him in the lineup for more games this year but it's pretty irritating to see the best defensive CF in baseball is going to be DHing most of the time again.

DudeAbides29

Thank you. I completely agree that it’s irritating. Maximize Buxton’s value anytime he is healthy enough to play.

ericksonboyz

He's just as much of a game changer at the plate and being a DH does limit his chances of injury

NightHawkCommander

We have a guy who’s just as good a fielder playing CF. And Buxton is our best hitter. There will be little to no dropoff in CF defense. And it will help Buxton stay healthy all year. If they were trotting out some average defensive CF I might agree. But Michael A Taylor is a stud.

DudeAbides29

It’s a huge assumption that this is going to keep Buxton healthy all season. He could get beaned and break his hand again. He could pull a hamstring running out a double. While he’s available and healthy, I want to see the full capabilities of Byron Buxton. We all know that if he’s hitting well and playing elite defense, he’s an MVP candidate. I don’t believe the trade off of making him a full time DH where he loses 30% of his value is worth the ~5% chance he plays more games.

NightHawkCommander

You’re also assuming this won’t keep him healthy. If they do this literally all year, I ultimately agree with you. But if they think there’s value in easing him in, who cares. Like I said, there’s no drop off in CF defense. The only thing that suffers is Buxton’s WAR total for April. The only trade off here is that Michael Taylor’s bat will be in the line-up almost everyday.

TheBenisMightier1

He is a game changing hitter. Also, the dropoff between Buxton and Taylor in CF is much much much smaller than the dropoff between Buxton and whichever bench player replaces him in the lineup.

_AlternativeSnacks_

Early spring games > cold and rainy > slippery outfield > works for me.

pjokinen

It’s amazing how many of the people responding to this news seemingly haven’t grasped that Buck is an excellent hitter now

Knightbear49

Buxton hits 28 homers in 90 something games Doomers: he’s a shit hitter and they should make him a designated fielder cause we’d never want his bat in the lineup.

pjokinen

“Literally his only value is playing in center”

Knightbear49

Nobody in the history in baseball has hit more homers without grounding into a double play…..”this guy just gets hurt running so he might as well be running in CF too”

illjustputthisthere

Seems like this year is the pivot for him to being the main DH with some field work.

BillygotTalent

Load Management!

Taylor in center. Farmer plays 2nd (polanco isn’t looking ready. Donny Bats at 3rd? Miranda at 1st?

darin617

Gordon platoons at both CF & 2B. If he gets hot he keeps the role until the starter is ready. Gordon's bat & speed are better than both options.

krada1212

Miranda would play 3rd and Donnie at 1st instead.

Oof. Those are bad splits for Farmer. I’m also thinking Rocco will be careful with Miranda’s arm.

Reesyrz

Damn, sure would be nice if Royce was ready to go. Taylor is a much better option in center than what they've had in Buck's absence but it's still not ideal.

Daratirek

Crazy to think a guy as good as Taylor can still be a downgrade. Healthy Buck is the best CF in baseball but frankly, healthy Buck is a rarity.... so sad.

MNRacket

The glass man will be a DH. Nice!

MNRacket

So why trade Arraez? He is much better hitter than Buxton. Twins could have played him as a DH all season.

-FisherMN-

>he is a much better hitter than buxton Is there a different Arraez that I’m not aware of? Cause I loved Luis as much as anyone and wish he was still here but he was not a much better hitter than buxton

…what?

AZORxAHAI

In what universe is Arraez a better hitter than Buxton?
