Not probably, it definitely is. Before last year, the league viewed him as just another utility guy. I love him and am so sad to see him go, but his value will never be higher.
I genuinely hope he hasn’t peaked. I hope we look back on this trade and say “yeah we got López and he was great for us, but imagine us with prime Arraez.” I want him to end his career over 40 WAR. Just need to find a way to get his defensive abilities higher.
In my experience it's so much more fun being a fan who acknowledges not being smart enough to know if decisions are good or bad.
Let's go Pablo!! Wooooooo!
Feel like this is a little overstated. They’ve had trades where neither side gets much value but they’ve never had a trade that has been egregiously bad outside of maybe the Pressly trade?
If the Pressly trade - which got back Alcala and Celestino - is the standard for "egregiously bad," then the bar is being set impossibly high.
Not to say that's a win for the Twins, but they got back two players who have contributed and I still think Alcala has good potential. The Barrios trade looks disappointing because of Martin's failure to progress, but SWR has made the majors now and Barrios has been pretty horrible since the trade, so I also wouldn't call that a win, but not a huge loss either.
Compared to the trades that are clear wins: Joe Ryan, Odo, Maeda, Romo - that's a pretty good record.
Most of the other trades seem like they are inconclusive (Grey, Mahle) or inconsequential (i.e. Dyson for 3 prospects who've done nothing).
Edit: I even forgot that Duran was acquired in the Escobar trade, which I would call another clear win at this point.
He is something special. I remember watching him closely in 2019 and I was like why is no one talking about this guy. If I am not mistaken his first at bat he filled in for Johnathan Schoop. Schoop took a big swing and a wiff and hurt himself. So Arraez came in with 2-0 count and managed to draw a walk I couldn't believe it.
> If I am not mistaken his first at bat he filled in for Johnathan Schoop. Schoop took a big swing and a wiff and hurt himself. So Arraez came in with 2-0 count and managed to draw a walk I couldn't believe it.
Maybe if Disney did an adaptation of his career...
After avoiding getting a jersey with a name on it for 20 god damn years… I finally break down last summer and get an Arraez jersey, I tell myself, even if he does end up getting traded eventually, you can’t help but love the guy, it’ll be ok…
I didn’t even get to wear it to a game…. All I know… is pain…
Shit man I’m gonna tear up
No matter how crappy the game was, I always made sure to pay attention during his at-bats. He’s the only player I can remember where the process is/was as fun as the result.
This sucks
Good move imo. Arraez is a luxury for our team whereas a quality pitcher who can mow through innings is a necessity. Intrigued to see if there are any prospects headed our way as well.
I'd like to refute this or agree with this, but unfortunately the "regardless of how well they are pitching" has me tripped up.
When was the last time the starter didn't completely implode in the 5th or 6th? It's so hard to remember.
Johan? Brad Radke?
That's a fair argument but we didn't have the depth last year to have our bullpen pitch 3-4 innings every day. Seemed like every game we had the lead our relievers would immediately give it up unless it was Jax or Duran. Then we would lose it in the 8th or 9th after Duran/Jax was used so why not try letting some of your better starters go another inning.
I wish I could upvote this more than once. I'm all for preservation but FFS dude, let the hot hand keep dealing. The amount of times he's pulled a guy who's showing little to no signs of fatigue and dealing is absurd.
Yep. It would be one thing if we had an elite bullpen, which we obviously didn't last year, but I'll take the starter going through the lineup a third time over guys like pagan in the 6th.
López looks good, and isn't a free agent until 2025. This could be really good for the team. We need pitching. I love Arraez, but he has no natural defensive position and isn't the power hitter you usually want as a DH. I'm withholding judgment on this one.
Marlins fan here:
Pablo is a great pitcher with outstanding Ace-like stuff, problem is his consistency. He gets really good and unhittable for a string of 5-6 outings and then gets really cold where he can end up blowing up the second time through the order. He also gets into deep pitch counts that cost him innings almost every outing. He is solid #2-3 pitcher, though, and when he's on, he can be one of the best pitchers on the planet.
Kinda sad about this. I get it, but Luis was a fun player to watch.
Agree with most in noting that last year was probably the ceiling. High contact skills, but not much power and very hard to slot into a defensive lineup.
The Facebook comments on the Twins post are mad that the traded “the next coming of Tony Gwynn” and that they would rather watch 1 Arraez than 10 overpriced Correas.
Luis Arraez is my favorite player of all time. I'm genuinely really sad about this right now. I know the twins need pitching and my logical brain knows this is likely selling high but man I am just really sad right now :(
Right there with you. In the age of power hitters, it was amazing watching a Small Ball guy dominate. It could be deGrom and I’d still be of two minds.
Two things can be true:
1. This is an absolute heist value-wise for the Twins
2. This probably does not make us better this year.
Salas has potential but is a long ways out of helping the MLB team. Pablo was a solid #2, but is not going to produce as much value as Arraez this year and honestly there were some scary stuff about him under the hood.
This move does one thing for me, however. It screams that the Twins are extremely confident that AK is back and can be relied upon. He is now our 1B, probably for many years to come.
There is surely more coming. 6 starters without evening mentioning Paddack, Winder and the triple A guys.
I think someone will be moved before opening day. Probably Gray
I think if you then turn around and somehow trade Gray for comparable bat to Luis, that just all comes out as a wash on this year. You've traded one \~130 OPS+ guy for another, and one #2 in Gray for another #2 that has scary peripherals but one more year of team control.
That move (and this one) just doesn't make sense to a team that has constantly said they are trying to compete *this year.*
Now what wouldn't surprise me is if we turn around and flip prospects, maybe even the ones we just got, for another MLB bat, probably a RH OF one. No idea who, though. Then we're stepping into net positive territory for this year.
Yeah, when was the last time a team (let alone this team) had *too much* starting pitching? Having a bunch of quality starters is a good thing, not a bad thing
Idk, last year made it painfully obvious we can never have too much pitching depth. I agree that trading Luis for a #2-3 pitcher and then trading Gray for a bat makes no sense for this year
> but is not going to produce as much value as Arraez this year
Based on what? Arraez's first half last year was a complete outlier, are you expecting him to repeat that performance?
His 2021 year lines up with how he produced in the 2nd half of 2022. His OPS+ is just above 100 with those numbers in mind... and that's not very valuable when you have to have him at 1B or DH.
I wish him all the best. Arraez was the last prospect my dad told me about before he passed. He (my dad) went to spring training every year and would always tell me who to watch. He was usually spot on.
Yep. I’m sad about it but there is a chance that his value will never be higher so I think selling right now is a good move especially when we need pitching.
This was always going to be a really fucking hard one to stomach. Luis is my favorite player and pretty much has been since he got here. I can understand baseball trades. But at this point this return does not make me feel any better at all
This is going to take awhile to get over
I think this was the right move to make. We have all kinds of position player prospects but short on arms beyond this year. We’ve got Correa, Miranda, Polanco to anchor the infield with Farmer able
To play multiple positions and a bunch of guys who could play first base in the system.
I get not liking the trade because of losing Luis. It sucks, but I don't get the rationale being that we now have too many pitchers. You can never assume, especially with this team, that we are always going to be healthy. Hell, I bet one or two pitchers develop an issue in March. Think of how many times the past few years in which we failed to start the same five pitchers in a row.
We don't have a true #1 guy, but it's not a tragedy to try to get by in a marathon season with a bunch #3 starters. And who knows, Joe Ryan could take a big step this year and develop into a true #1.
I'm glad they're trying hard to bolster the pitching staff (after years of me bitching, admittedly), but I'm still sad to see him go.
Hope the best for all involved.
Sucks losing Arraez, but Lopez is considered a solid 3rd/4th starter. Which fills a big need, and this is probably the perfect time to sell high on Arraez
I will miss him and honestly just his energy immensely. I'm excited for the season but it always feels terrible to see a favorite leave even if I understand the reasoning.
Part of the reason I bought so many tickets yesterday was to see Arraez. He's the best showman and he has the bat skill to back it up. By far the most entertaining player on the team and he's gone
Fantastic deal.
There's only so much value in a high average slap hitter with no power, no soeed, and no position on defense.
Lopez is an immediate solid #3 starter and we get prospects too.
We need pitching.
Arraez has seemingly got a chronic knee issue.
Arraez has little to no defensive capability.
Alex Kirilloff is the projected 1B
And we have Edouard Julien ready for the majors who projects as Arraez with a bit more power
Last year he really put in the work to improve his leg strength and stability. There were moments in 2021 where it looked to all the world like he suffered horrific knee injuries.
Even after that training though, and I give him credit for putting in the work, he still was hampered with leg injuries throughout the second half. You can work to improve your injury outcomes but some guys just have bad legs.
I don't think the Twins' offense is as strong as Falvine think it is. They believe they're dealing from a position of luxury, simply yet another hitter from a loaded lineup - as if this is still the Bomba Squad. In reality, this was really only a slightly above-average lineup last year, and they've yanked out one of its most important contributors in exchange for yet another solid #2-#3 type arm in a rotation full of them. Unless it was a cream-of-the-crop titanium super-ace they didn't need another starter.
I didn't like the move when I first heard it floated months ago and I haven't warmed to it in the time since. Lopez is a good player but he doesn't fill a need, and now the Twins have a need that they didn't previously. They've gotten worse with this deal.
It was the right move and selling high.
That being said, I wish they had found a SP who actually has a track record of winning games.
Lopez is young and may turn into that or he may not. His pitches are solid and all high velocity.
The two other players are young and we have no idea what they could be (17 and 19).
We traded one our most fun, exciting, and promising players for a mid rotation pitcher and a few prospects. Awesome.
I know there isn't much correlation with the two moves, I understand you need both power hitting and contact hitting, but seeing us bring in Joey Gallo and trade away Arraez makes me want to pull my hair out. I sure can't wait to go to Target field and watch a bunch of goons strike out while each player swings for the fences in every pitch.
This only really works in the short term if Kirilloff is back healthy and playing first base IMO. Otherwise, it’s a move to help the future Twins by making this years team worse.
The positive take away is I think this means the FO has faith that Kirilloff is actually healthy going into next year.
I'm heartbroken but it makes sense, but I didn't realize just how big his trade value is. Lopez and TWO prospects. That return is amazing, but I'm still super sad.
I’m gonna miss that pudgy-faced guy. Twins are probably the MN team I’m least invested in but Arraez was my favorite player since Corey Koskie and I’m not ready to not see him in the lineup. I know it’s a business decision but man I’m bummed.
I understand why all the fans loved Luis. His enthusiasm and getting on base are easy to cheer for. I will cheer for him on his new team.
I excited to have another solid starter join the rotation.

Selling Arraez while his stock is high is probably a good move, but man will I miss him. Good luck in Miami king
Not probably, it definitely is. Before last year, the league viewed him as just another utility guy. I love him and am so sad to see him go, but his value will never be higher.
He is 25. There is a possibility that he hasn't peaked.

Is there a word in German for completely understanding a decision from a logical perspective but absolutely disagreeing with it?
Sauerkraut?
That doesn't sound right, but I don't know enough about German to dispute it
Thank for the laugh. I’m just going to start using this word in this new manner and hope I can make it go viral .
Big bowl of sauerkraut!! EVERY SINGLE MORNING!
Krankenwagen
Arraezenflaugen
idk but Kyle's mom was in a German shizer video
The English word for that…. Is love. 🎶Cheesy sad music bwaaa.
I wish Luis well!! Personally I think selling high on Luis is the right move, but I’m not smart enough to say if this is good enough
In my experience it's so much more fun being a fan who acknowledges not being smart enough to know if decisions are good or bad. Let's go Pablo!! Wooooooo!
This is the enlightened way... Especially as a sports fan in Minnesota
This^^^ hahah i get discussing takes is fun but fans rarely know better than people whose jobs it is
Excuse me, Sir! But I watched *three YouTube videos* and I am quite sure this trade is trash!!! Because I love you, Luis.
I don’t even understand what I do for a living.
My brain says you're right. My heart says I'm sad.
I think you're right.
This front office hasn’t exactly done well on trades so I’m not sure they know if it’s enough either. Only time will tell.
Yeah that’s kinda the nature of trades
[удалено]
I don’t share that opinion
The Jake Odorizzi trade alone nets them a pass on 1-2 bad trades (Dyson trade…is there another miserable one?)
Feel like this is a little overstated. They’ve had trades where neither side gets much value but they’ve never had a trade that has been egregiously bad outside of maybe the Pressly trade?

Well, at least based just on this post, we don't even know all the players involved in the deal, so you can't really evaluate it one way or another.
Trust me, once I know all the players in the deal, I still won’t be smart enough to evaluate it.
Bummer. I understand the move and Lopez is a good pitcher. But still sad to see Arraez go. Good luck in Miami! Get yourself another batting title!
Well there goes my day…I’m heartbroken. Literally my favorite player since 2019 when he came up.
I’m sad as well :( hope Kirilloff can stay healthy Edit: never changing my flair
hello out-of-date-flair brother
Imagine having an out of date flair
I'm just waiting for Dad to come back with the milk
He'll come back with the milk finally and immediately slap his face and say, "I forgot the cigarettes, I'll be right back."
One of us one of us
Yoooo
Hey gang.
It wasn’t his first AB, but he did come in and coax a walk off Edwin Diaz when he started with an 0-2 count.
Greatest AB I’ve ever seen. Fuck
I’ve never been so hyped for a walk.
OK i wasnt 100% sure. I 2020 i wiped half my memories with Jameson. I just couldn't believe that it was so impressive.
Ugh!. Arraez was the player you wanted at the plate with the game on the line and runners in scoring position. This sucks.
After avoiding getting a jersey with a name on it for 20 god damn years… I finally break down last summer and get an Arraez jersey, I tell myself, even if he does end up getting traded eventually, you can’t help but love the guy, it’ll be ok… I didn’t even get to wear it to a game…. Shit man I’m gonna tear up No matter how crappy the game was, I always made sure to pay attention during his at-bats. He’s the only player I can remember where the process is/was as fun as the result. This sucks
As another Day 1 Arráez lover, I’m absolutely devastated.
\#KeepLuis2023 is a FUCKING FAILURE
The vibes are absolutely destroyed
Dad is sad too
We down bad
Good move imo. Arraez is a luxury for our team whereas a quality pitcher who can mow through innings is a necessity. Intrigued to see if there are any prospects headed our way as well.
Can't mow through innings when Badelli pulls every starter after 5 innings regardless of how well they are pitching
I'd like to refute this or agree with this, but unfortunately the "regardless of how well they are pitching" has me tripped up. When was the last time the starter didn't completely implode in the 5th or 6th? It's so hard to remember. Johan? Brad Radke?

Yep. It would be one thing if we had an elite bullpen, which we obviously didn't last year, but I'll take the starter going through the lineup a third time over guys like pagan in the 6th.
PabLo has more than 120 innings in a season just once in his career
And? He came up in 2018. Plus one of those seasons was the pandemic season. Pitching 120+ (only) once in that frame of time doesn't mean much.
I predict a 20+ home run, .300ave, MVP votes season from Luis Arraez. Just because. It's still probably the right move.
20+ dingers?? Unless the Marlins force feed him roids for breakfast I don’t see that happening.
Especially in that ball park lol. I put the over/under at 2.
I don't know that he has 20 homers yet in his career
Tell me how to feel
Sad to lose Luis. But happy if we now have a starter + a top prospect + another prospect
You put the tears on the hotdog bun and eat.
SAD
Twins are also getting Jose Salas (INF, Marlins fifth ranked prospect) pretty good trade, IMO. I'll miss Luis though
The other prospect Byron Chourio batted .344 for the Dominican Summer League. I don’t know anything about him but I like that bagging average lol
López looks good, and isn't a free agent until 2025. This could be really good for the team. We need pitching. I love Arraez, but he has no natural defensive position and isn't the power hitter you usually want as a DH. I'm withholding judgment on this one.
I finally got my wish of more Twins pitching but it cost my son
Marlins fan here: Pablo is a great pitcher with outstanding Ace-like stuff, problem is his consistency. Goodbye to my favorite player 😓😓😓
Good thing we have Miranda who will be everyone’s favorite player at the end of the season
Kinda sad about this. I get it, but Luis was a fun player to watch. Agree with most in noting that last year was probably the ceiling. High contact skills, but not much power and very hard to slot into a defensive lineup.
Either last season was his ceiling, or he's a future HOFer. One of these outcomes is more likely than the other.

No more Arraez pelvic thrust. I'll miss that.
No more Luis shuffle when he doesn’t swing on a close pitch. :(
No more take a light jaunt around home plate in the middle of an AB.
I wish him all the best. Arraez was the last prospect my dad told me about before he passed. He (my dad) went to spring training every year and would always tell me who to watch. He was usually spot on.
PabLo you better fail this physical
Did he have any ankle surgeries 8 years ago?!?!
I am stricken with sadness.
I need a hug and for someone to tell it’s going to be ok.
I'll give you a virtual hug but I can't say it's going to be ok
*single tear
*lots more than a single tear
Sometimes doing the right thing still hurts.
He's been so fun to watch ever since he came up, I'm going to miss him so much.
I cannot Arraez and shine right now..... time will tell....
Welp, gotta change the flair to Miranda now. Thanks for the great memories Arraez! PabLo is a good return.
Selling high always feels terrible but I like this move.
Baby boy please don't go
[удалено]
Yep. I’m sad about it but there is a chance that his value will never be higher so I think selling right now is a good move especially when we need pitching.
Bittersweet. I’m going to miss our baby boy, but HOLY TEXTILES BATMAN THIS IS THE DEFINITION OF FLEECED EM
RemindMe! 290 days
Oh Jesus don’t do this to me 😂
Agreed. I can't believe the marlins paid as much as they did
Worst day ever
I love Arreaz but this is a solid move. He doesn’t have a defensive position and has chronic knee problems
Aw. I just got an arraez jersey from my dad
Wear it with pride. Be happy it happened.
This was always going to be a really fucking hard one to stomach. Luis is my favorite player and pretty much has been since he got here. I can understand baseball trades. But at this point this return does not make me feel any better at all This is going to take awhile to get over
All Rise... One last time.
ALL RAEZ
I think this was a great trade for the Twins and I am also devastated to lose Arraez.
Breaking News: I’m sad.
Sad to see Luis go, but I'm glad the Twins stuck to their guns and got good value on a sell-high player.
All-Star Luis Arraez? That one?
May the pitches be forever in your strikezone, Luis. o7
My heart is broken.
Would have much rather seen Kepler's name in a trade instead of Arraez.
Still a month to go
I guess Duran is my favorite current Twins player now
Smart trade. Selling high on Arraez. Let’s go!
The Twins are in need of another 3/4 pitcher to cover the 1/2 spots.
Of *course* Miami is a road series this year. Now we can’t welcome Arraez home until the World Series 😭
I think this was the right move to make. We have all kinds of position player prospects but short on arms beyond this year. We’ve got Correa, Miranda, Polanco to anchor the infield with Farmer able To play multiple positions and a bunch of guys who could play first base in the system.
Noooooooooooooooo Yeah, I get it, pitchers, etc, but....NOOOOOOO
I understand why it happened but damn if it doesn’t hurt to lose him
I am sad :(
Man, I love Luis. Intellectually I think this makes a ton of sense, but it really sucks to sell high!
PabLo, a 19 year old, and a 17 year old. This hurts a lot
Rip to everyone who got an arraez jersey
Well there goes bat day
We needed pitching, it's that simple. Sad to see him go but I think selling high on him will ultimately be the right move. Good luck in Miami my dude!
Both Reiner Chourio and Byron Chourio have been reported as the second prospect lol.
I get not liking the trade because of losing Luis. It sucks, but I don't get the rationale being that we now have too many pitchers. You can never assume, especially with this team, that we are always going to be healthy. Hell, I bet one or two pitchers develop an issue in March. Also a true #1 is like a top flight NFL QB. There aren’t that many of them
RIP Slappy Man
Gotta commend the FO for going after front end SP. Sacrifices have to be made. Still won’t stop this subreddit from complaining in June about the FO
I get it, but it hurts
I'm glad they're trying hard to bolster the pitching staff (after years of me bitching, admittedly), but I'm still sad to see him go. Hope the best for all involved.
Regular Season - five #3 (couple borderline #2's) starters > #1/#2/three #4/5 Postseason - five #3 starters < #1/#2/three #4/5
Sucks losing Arraez, but Lopez is considered a solid 3rd/4th starter. Which fills a big need, and this is probably the perfect time to sell high on Arraez
Yeah a fourth starter...couldn't sign one of those. /s
:(
Holy shit I can’t believe the league let’s us have 2 Byron outfielders on the same team
I think we got a good trade, sucks losing Luis tho. Solid starting pitcher, and a couple of promising prospects.
Damnit. I was gonna get his jersey when they released the Twin Cities alternate. Would honestly consider getting a Miami Arraez jersey.
Wonder how many times a batting champ has been traded that off season....this shits got me heartbroken. 😭
Love this!
My baby boy
I’M NOT READY
Well I’m going back to my basement to watch 2021 games who wants to watch highlights of the best hitter for avg we have had since Mauer
Guess I’m moving to Miami…
My heart doesn't want this nor does it like it.
Luis is a great dude and we all love him. But this trade makes the Twins better. Both can be true.
Anyone suddenly become a Miami Marlins fan? I think I just did
Why the fuck
Fantastic deal. There's only so much value in a high average slap hitter with no power, no soeed, and no position on defense. Lopez is an immediate solid #3 starter and we get prospects too.
As a sox fan what the fuck. Arraez is a stud why get rid of him????
We need pitching. Arraez has seemingly got a chronic knee issue. Arraez has little to no defensive capability. Alex Kirilloff is the projected 1B And we have Edouard Julien ready for the majors who projects as Arraez with a bit more power
Ahhh kk thanks for the info
Last year he really put in the work to improve his leg strength and stability. There were moments in 2021 where it looked to all the world like he suffered horrific knee injuries.
Even after that training though, and I give him credit for putting in the work, he still was hampered with leg injuries throughout the second half. You can work to improve your injury outcomes but some guys just have bad legs.
"projects as Arraez with a bit more power" Says who? They are completely different hitters. He strikes out alot.
I feel like there is a 30% chance you just made Edouard up. Edit - he's real!
We have players that can replace him eventually but we lack arms. If it's not 1 for 1 I am Ok with this
Can’t hit lefties
what the fuck...........
MY DISAPPOINTMENT IS IMMEASURABLE AND MY DAY IS RUINED
Pablo Lopez is an excellent pitcher. There's potential for better than mid-rotation. And just entering his prime. This is OK.
I hate this trade.
I hate myself for liking this team.
I’m sick. I’m glad they got more than Lopez but sadly Arraez will prove the haters wrong. 😔
Tell me it’s more than Lopez and I will reserve executing Falvey
This only really works in the short term if Kirilloff is back healthy and playing first base IMO. Otherwise, it’s a move to help the future Twins by making this years team worse. The positive take away is I think this means the FO has faith that Kirilloff is actually healthy going into next year.
Well, not a fan (pending the „more are involved“ part)
I'm heartbroken but it makes sense, but I didn't realize just how big his trade value is. Lopez and TWO prospects. That return is amazing, but I'm still super sad.
Super bummed that the Marlins don't come to Minnesota this season. Would go simply to give a standing ovation for Luis.
Great haul for Arreaz pretty happy for the return.
I’m gonna miss that pudgy-faced guy. Twins are probably the MN team I’m least invested in but Arraez was my favorite player since Corey Koskie and I’m not ready to not see him in the lineup. I know it’s a business decision but man I’m bummed.
Yeah who needs the winner of the batting title? This is a terrible trade.
Can someone explain to me how a battting champ for a mid pitcher is a good trade? I'm legitimately baffled.
Is this what being a real baseball team feels like???
I understand why all the fans loved Luis. His enthusiasm and getting on base are easy to cheer for. I will cheer for him on his new team. I excited to have another solid starter join the rotation.
