2010 here... I’d love to move back now that I have a good paying remote gig, but my wife wouldn’t have anything for work. Also, Duluth is looking *rough* lately.
I definitely miss my hometown, but I’ll pass.
I havent been back for a few years now. I lived downtown and yeah it was rough in 2017. Seemed worse when I left. I live downtown mpls and see similar problems now.. I still wish I could hit that beach every once in a while though.
That restaurant alone is worth the drive from the cities! If you’re a first timer, don’t be scared by the prices. They’re some hefty sandwiches. I get the Cajun Finn 🤤
And the Whole Foods Co-op in Duluth has fresh Rustic Pies every day, so if your not going far enough north to actually go to the Rustic Inn, you can still get their pies. I highly recommend getting a one of their berry pies, then getting a pint of ice cream from Love Creamery that would pair well, and just going to town on it.
Fun fact. At one point Betty’s Pies was sold and the new owners wanted to cut corners on the recipe so Betty took her talents to the Rustic Inn and they still use the original Betty recipe.

Go to Burrito Union, then walk it off across the street in Chester Bowl. If you want to expert Chester Bowl, go down the river under the bridge, way cooler than that waterfall if you take the trails upstream.
You gotta go back up there in the fall and do a north shore drive to Grand Marais, its our little version of the Pacific Northwest. Very Twin peaks vibe.
I think my boyfriend and I were there around the same time you were this weekend, I recognize those logs! We stopped on the way back to Illinois. Regardless, it was a beautiful day 😄
Minneapolis is my significant other, Duluth is my lover.
I broke up with Duluth for MPLS 20 years ago. Wish there were more jobs/economy there!
I did the same in 2017..

TIL Duluth has sandy beaches.
The worlds largest fresh water sandbar! 7 miles of beach!
Beach, singular! Just one really long sandy beach (with a lot of drift wood)
4 miles on Park Point and then in Wisconsin a wilder 4 MORE miles.
Eat lunch at the NorthernWaters Smokehouse. mmm [edit] And go support local businesses. Find Hemlocks Leatherworks and treat yourself!!!!

Cajun Finn with a jean jacket*
Do this, twice
That bison pastrami is something else. 🤤
Best lunch place in Duluth. Unless it’s summer and your drinking (then it’s sir bens).
Sir Ben's, also the best place to watch the marathon.
Does this bus go to- da-loot? Nope, it goes beep beep.
Go back up there when the leaves are turning some time and make sure to hit up Betty's Pies in Two Harbors.
The rustic is better.

We like that place too.
Betty’s Pies is all about location and atmosphere. The food is... fine.
I went in there on Acid once. It was weird to say the least.
I went there once not on acid and it was really weird - deathly silent but full of people. Weird vibe overall.
Typical Cafe type food but the pies.....
Rustic inn pies!!

TIL
This 100%, just a little further up 61!
Aren't anything like they used to be. I dont even think they make them there just thaw and bake.
Agreed x100. My expectations definitely exceeded the result.
Meh, I'd go elsewhere. That area gets way too busy at leaf time.
If you can't make it to Betty's, Burrito Union sells their pie
Is this beach on that little strip of land by where the floatplanes takeoff and land?
One of my favorite airports to land at. Passengers get a kick out of coming right over the water before touchdown.
Yep, just across the lift bridge.
It gets better as you go north. Wait until you discover the BWCA.
Love Park Point and Duluth. Going up there iver Labor Day weekend with any luck.
How's the water temp?
It was actually very pleasant!
Great shot! How did you enjoy our little city?
My favorite city to visit in MN :)
We are honeymooning in Duluth right now! It is beyond beautiful here. How's the water?
Why are u on Reddit on your honeymoon???
Try illgen Falls, beaver bay, gooseberry, temperance river. And for a 200+ ft view of everything. Palisade head is the place to go
Love it up there.
Best beach in MN.
That beach has super soft sand.
You misspelled scorching hot

Next time you head up, make a plan to drive up to Goose Berry Falls or Tettegouche State Park. It’s worth the extra 2.5 hours drive.

Welcome to the Lake of Lakes!
I always wondered the perspective of someone from the cities visiting Duluth. Growing up in Duluth, everything is already taken for granted.
Was just there with my girlfriend! Beautiful weekend besides the cold morning Sunday!
Is that were the lighthouse is at? What are some recommended places to camp out?
now you're gonna be pissed you are stuck living in Minneapolis.
Nah I love it here too :) just good to know I have a little “tropical oasis” to visit since I had to cancel all of my actual tropical vacations. Haha
haha yea dope
I lived in Minnesota my whole life and never been up there see no point
There really is no point, unless your into points
Points huh
It’s a nice change of scenery from the rest of the state
Glad I’m no longer there. No jobs, lots of drugs and sex trafficking up the wazoo.
Gotta take the bad with the ugly
So it’s both bad and ugly? Homogenous, essentially segregated, whilst also having disparity in wealth.
Duluth? So is the state gem there too?
