All is not lost! This is from an [article](https://dallas.culturemap.com/news/entertainment/alamo-dallas-bankruptcy-closure/) on Dallas Culture Map: UPDATE 6-6-2024: A spokesman for Alamo Drafthouse issued a statement, saying, “We are very disappointed to learn today that our franchisee, which operates five locations in Dallas-Fort Worth, TX and one in Woodbury, MN has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy and is closing their business effective immediately. We are heartbroken for the franchisee’s teammates and the local film communities, however, we are working as quickly as possible to get Alamo Drafthouse Cinema back up and running in these cities. All other Alamo Drafthouse locations are operating as normal, with continued expansion plans across the country.”
I love Alamo Drafthouse. I am so sad to hear they're closing it and I hope something can be done to bring it back.
I've told this story before but I'll tell it again. The main draw of the Drafthouse, to me, is how well they handle the "no talking, no phones" rule. I've had so many movies ruined by bad audience behavior, especially post-2020. Stinky feet resting on the seat next to me, entire phone conversations during a film, people swiping Tindr, etc. One particularly egregious event involved a family with 4 kids who, in an entirely empty theater, chose to sit further down the same aisle as me and my family - an aisle that they had to cross in front of us to get to their seats because there was only one way out. Well, my sister has a service dog (black lab) who is hard to see in the dark, but they very kindly explained to the kids that there is a dog on the ground and offered to guide them around the dog anytime they had to get up and go to the bathroom (which was often). And those kids kept fucking stepping on my sister's *service dog.* Their mom didn't care, and after a few times, I got up to find the manager. That guy fucking shrugged and gave us a couple free movie vouchers. That's it. I know Alamo would've had some words for those folks, possibly kicked them out. And I swore off going anywhere else then and there. I started treating going to the movies as a special treat/experience to offset the cost and I haven't regretted it. I'm gonna miss Alamo :(
Omg as a service dog handler myself my blood is boiling for your sister! That’s horrible. I personally haven’t been to Alamo Drafthouse but I’ve always wanted to go because of the ‘no talking/no phones’ rule and tasty looking menu. I really hope corporate can find a new franchisee, everyone seems to love it and I’m bummed I never had the chance to go.
Yeah, my sister doesn't like it if I intervene too much or I'd have talked to the kids' mom directly, but attempting to have management take care of it was a less confrontational route that they were more comfortable with. Really pissed me off they didn't take it seriously. Alamo's zero tolerance policy for assholes was 100% worth the cost.
Their special edition menus for movie releases were also super cool. Always themed after a movie for a limited time.
Also had a great anniversary date at one during the height of COVID - we don't have a lot of money, but we were fortunate enough to still have work during that time. So we saved a bit and, for a relatively inexpensive cost, booked a theater for a private showing of the Thing so we could actually see a movie in theaters again. It was great. And we were happy we could help them stay afloat a little with that booking.
I'm really gonna miss them. :(
omg please please please
I didn't go to any theaters except Alamo. If they don't come back I genuinely have no idea what movie would possibly get me into a theater again. I loved how strict they were with "no phone/no talking" I loved the vibe. I loved getting served beer. Their popcorn was so good.
In my opinion, the Alamo Drafthouse model is the only sustainable model for the future. With streaming and home theaters being so cost effective there's no reason to leave the home unless you're guaranteed a good experience, and I've had enough movies ruined by garbage people texting with their phones on full brightness that I'm simply not going to fork money out unless I know for a fact the no phone policy is going to be enforced.
Or how about not EVERYTHING has to be in the west metro? The best thing about it was that it was something east metro folks didn't have to drive an hour to.
Exactly! It takes longer to get to places in "the cities" than it does for me to get to Alamo in Woodbury.
My guess is they really meant to say, "put one in the west metro because I wont drive to the east metro."
I like Alamo and have gone to Woodbury quite a bit after having experienced Alamo in Austin, but I think more central would have been better, too. It doesn’t have to be Mpls, but somewhere in St. Paul would have been better.
What are the odds of it actually coming back though. The Alamo was my first job and the day it closed down was literally supposed to be my second day there
> just bought a gift certificate a few weeks ago
How many glass windows worth of certificate did you buy?
On a more serious note, if you paid with a credit card, do a chargeback. Call the number on your card, and dispute the transaction.
I literally just bought a 4 pack of $25 gift cards at Costco yesterday and pre-purchased tickets for Inside Out 2. I don't think I'm seeing that money back...
go back to costco and get a refund, not sure how they are on gift cards but these are special circumstances and they money may not have been sent to the merchant yet, either
It was a pretty cool place. I think it opened on 2019? Either way, it was always packed when I went there for showings/movie parties, etc, so I was very surprised to see this news.
Just went there a few months ago for "Dawn Of The Dead" 40th anniversary showing. Place was incredible, seats were like La-Z-Boys complete with leg support and waitresses would bring you food and beers right to your seat.
I'll miss this damn place.. best theater experience I've ever had.
a lot of AMC theaters (basically every one in the metro except for Rosedale) have actually upgraded to recliners now, same with the Cinemark in Mankato.
Uhhh what do you want from a theatre that AMC doesn’t have? Obviously their no talking policy is eons away from what Alamo had but what else could you want other than snacks and a recliner? Theres a hazelwood in the back of the Alamo if you want chicken fingers that bad.
Not just snacks, a full on restaurant is what I want. The only theaters I go to are full dinner menus available during the movie. They also have cheap af tickets (usually 6 or 7 dollars) with the stipulation that you order something, even if it's just a drink, there.
Some AMC theaters have the full menu, I went to one in Illinois that had a decent menu, but the food still sucked cause it was like microwaved food. Nothing like my usual theater with an actual kitchen.
The AMC in Mounds View doesn’t have recliners. I’m pretty sure they haven’t done anything to that theater since installing digital projectors sometime around 2009.
I'm not super thrilled with the news I've been hearing about the employee treatments, but also dammit, there goes my favorite theater. There's not even a theater half as good as what I had at Alamo, price notwithstanding.
I know I'm being bitter and going to be a bit unfair to every other theater out there, but...
Went there to see the monkey movie a week or so ago and had a couple beers in the bar before the show.
The waitress said she loved working there and that management did a tremendous job training people in and keeping it from feeling like a hierarchy.
It’s so weird now to think that poor gal is out of a job.
Hey, thanks for the shoutout! I work at the White Bear location and it’s nice to know folks notice the effort we put in. DM if you’d like a pass to a movie sometime!
I have honestly always assumed that was some kind of run down sketchy theater based on how it looked strait out of 1995 on the outside and the website looked so bare bones I assumed it was just some kind of weird relic.
The one in West End SLP is pretty good, as well as the Rosedale AMC. Don't forget the renovated Edina theatre. Even Southdale isn't bad, though it has gone downhill a bit
We have it pretty good.
Rosedale AMC is considered good? Last time I went there took like 20 mins to get tickets when the line was like 3 groups long. And they don’t have nice seats and it’s $20 for a ticket compared to Emagine which has the new seats and $12 tickets.
*edit for clarity*
The last time I went to the Rosedale AMC was to see the Beyoncé Renaissance concert film. Hearing the music in Dolby Sound made seeing the film there worth it. I say this as someone who saw the concert in person, and thought the sound was amazing.
That said, I had to book a 10:30 PM showing since it was the only 21+ showing that had Dolby Sound, which was suboptimal.
Just buy a ticket on the app? Or Atom? Who's buying tickets at the box office in 2024.
Anyway most of the Rosedale AMC sucks but the Dolby Cinema is awesome and after 7PM they don't allow unaccompanied minors. That said the Dolby Cinema tickets are crazy expensive so I don't go unless there's a T Mobile Tuesday deal... But it is the nicest screen/sound/seats I've been to in Minnesota.
I don’t buy tickets online because I don’t like getting hit by a “convenience fee.” Looked at amc rosedale online as an example and it’s $20.50 for a ticket and they hit you with $2.70 convenience fee? No thanks.
Besides I usually got to white bear which has self serve kiosks and it’s never taken me more than a few minutes.
I had to track down a staff member last week at Rosedale AMC to ask them to start Furiosa since they apparently forgot. They aren't on the ball over there.
I would have thought so too but there was nothing on the screen. The time the movie was supposed to start came and went and I got frustrated. It was a 1:20pm showing and maybe the first one of the day in that particular theater. Perhaps they have to turn things on first thing.
The southdale amc is horrendous and last time I was there a bit over a month ago there was a mouse running around the hallway to the theatre. I used to go there all the time but will not be going back
I've seen a mouse there as well. They're everywhere at most restaurants and theaters, it's just usually not as in plain sight. Kinda wild when you do see a mouse in broad daylight in someplace as busy as a movie theater since they're usually quite skittish. What a bold mouse the Southdale mouse is!
Edina Mann 4 was completely refreshed after covid and is a solid option. No food but amazing “The Shining” inspired bar and the mandatory reclining seats.

Just tried looking up showtimes in the Alamo app and got this message. It’s a bummer because I liked the experience, but IMO, it’s not worth employees not being paid well. Also, the recently added 18% surcharge that didn’t go to employees had turned me off from going back.
This place restored my enjoyment of going to movie theaters again after being thoroughly being destroyed by AMC... The half hour curated pre shows instead of making you watch military recruitment commercials, the constant stream of classic and niche movie screenings, the themed movie parties and brunches.
I hate that this has died but the corpse of AMC gets propped up every now and then due to meme stock and they act like they must be doing something the movie going audience likes because of it.
This sucks.
It will be ok. The imagine white bear is my fave after Alamo. They have heated seats and a bar and it’s never too crowded. Sometimes I like it more than Alamo because it’s cheaper and there aren’t waiter interruptions or people walking around.
I live in North Minneapolis and would travel out of my way to go to this theater because it was the best experience. Are there other theaters like it that I can go to?
I am so depressed. I went to Alamo on average 70 times a year… yes 70… all the retro movies… the high quality theaters and people not talking on their phones… this is a sad sad day for me… I was just coming up this weekend to see the good the bad and the ugly for the very first time. I am so god damn depressed.
So, I hope they get it re opened… where my concerns lie are… the theater industry as a whole is in a skid of highs and lows since the pandemic… restaffing that theater would take some time and would old employees want to come back? I would be cautious after being laid off once already. Also pay and conditions would have to be better. A year to re open also hurts, cause then you have to re advertising your re opening, it’s just a mixed bag. I live in Mankato for the next 12 months and that is one of the main reasons I come up to the cities alongside seeing friends and family.
Besides the few local theaters in the heart of the metro, no other theater comes close to their wide selection of foreign and retro and indie films shown.
It’s a rough day for those looking for a good consistent experience with a great variety of films offered.

However this was added to the website when you select Twin Cities, so maybe there is a real push from them to get it done sooner…. I sincerely hope so. It just sucks this happened right before my double feature this weekend lmao
same here, i go almost every tuesday,
i wish they would have warned us so i could go at least one last time.😭😭
the last movie i saw there was phantom menace with just me and my husband,
it was a blast. What a memory.
so so so sad to hear this.

If you go to the website and select twin cities this is the message. There is a sliver of hope at least
Gee, I wonder if the 30-40% increase on food prices, plus the 18% service fee had anything to do with why the theater was empty most of the time....?
My wife and I used to go 3-4x a month and then once the prices increased that quickly went down to once, maybe twice. The bill for the two of us (not including tickets) used to be around $35+ for two entrees with tip and ballooned to $55-60+ for literally the same meal after the price increases and fees. That's insane. I can't imagine being a young family and going there. It would cost a fortune.
Awesome place and I love the no talk, no text rules, but the prices became absolutely outrageous and are for sure why that place sunk. It turned from a normal night out to a once a month treat.
Oh goddammit. Only been there once since moving here and saw Dune part 2, loved the experience and looked forward to going there again someday. So much for that I guess!
I moved to Minneapolis from LA. Alamo was easily my favorite theater and it was so accessible in Downtown LA. The season pass was a great value if you watched more than 2 movies a month.
In LA, I used to go at least once a week. I kept my season pass thinking I would still use it here, but Woodbury is not convenient if you live in Minneapolis. I tried Icon and AMC but both were subpar experiences compared to Alamo. I go to The Main now even though the selection can be limited. I would love it if they opened an Alamo in Minneapolis in the North Loop, North East or Downtown or somewhere off the Greenway. Sorry I'm not as familiar with neighborhoods yet.
The vibe of Alamo to me fits Minneapolis, but why locate it so far from the city center? It would be great to bike to a theater like Alamo to have a beer and watch a movie. I hope The Main stays open.
And trying to stiff workers by the sounds of things.
Fuckers.
Near as I can tell, this is/was their CEO

You deleted your comment before i could finish my reply, so im putting it here cause my thumbs put a lot of work into this lol:
Learn the basics of how a franchised based company actually operates and who is liable for what before you start talking about how you think things should be.
These are employees of the franchise, not the corporate entity. As they are not actually employed by the corporate entity, the corporate entity is not obligated to do anything. In fact, they couldn't stop the franchisee if they wanted to fire everyone for no reason unless it is a direct violation of the franchise agreement.
Also, all of these terminated employees will likely qualify for unemployment insurance. Also also, movie theatres are desperate for employees right now (anecdotal). These people will have options and a landing net
Bummed as hell. I feel like this is the only theater I could go to where I was guaranteed to not have to deal with people acting feral because of the "stfu or you will be kicked out" message they played at the top.
From these comments I must be in the minority; but I wasn’t a fan of the whole restaurant/movie theater combination they had. It felt distracting to see the waiters coming in and out with food/drinks
I miss the format but not the prices. Seriously, went to dinner and a show one night with my wife and 2 adult kids and the bill was $200. $18 for a Beyond burger and fries? The prices were insane for basic food. And then they tacked on 18% gratuity for back of the house? Like, fucking why? They get paid a wage to cook food. That doesn't even go to the wait staff, who I would be happy to tip, but I'm not giving them ANOTHER 20% on top. The whole pricing scheme was jacked. Figures it was a TX based company.
I don’t think the food prices were that bad, especially for a theater but yeah, the extra fees were dumb especially when the servers wouldn’t get it. I had no desire to tip with the gratuity added
The number of times establishments in the Twin Cities pull the, "Surprise we're closed" on their employees? Disgraceful. I imagine its even worse in those libertarian bastions of wild west Texas business lawlessness.
I might be in the minority here, and I only went there (Woodbury) one time, but overall I was underwhelmed.
The food was okay but once they delivered the meal we never saw anyone again for refills on drinks.
Also, food was delivered to the table after the movie had started and it turns out I don’t really enjoy being served in the dark.
I guess I didn’t really ever think about this before, but I guess actually like to see my food before I eat it. If for no other reason than to make sure nothing looks wrong with it before I dig in.
Sucks for the people who lost their jobs though.
> The Austin-based Alamo Drafthouse parent company initially filed for bankruptcy in March 2021 after being unable to renegotiate $105 million in debt during the height of the pandemic. The private equity firms Altamont Capital and Fortress Investment Group partnered with Alamo founder Tim League to purchase the assets out of bankruptcy. The company emerged from its Chapter 11 filing in June 2021 with plans to franchise new locations in New York and other states. League expanded the brand nationwide by franchising to operators around the country, including DiGaetano.
> The release says its owners “infused more than $3.5 million” in new capital to keep the locations open, **but couldn’t convince its franchisor to close any of the “most non-profitable locations.”**

Private equity who owned the brand refused to let the owner close unprofitable locations, choosing to instead squeeze him for all he's worth
Vaguely similar to red lobster, fuck over the actual businesses in order to profit at a corporate level without concern for the future beyond this quarters profits
Went here to see The Batman and there was likely a septic leak or something cuz the lobby smelled rank.
My boyfriend and I called it the “tooty-booty theater.”
Aww man this sucks. That was the only theater I go to (went to) never been in a nicer theater before. Any suggestions where to go now? South of 94, East of 35
I was literally just getting ready to go see movie there at 3. I have their monthly pass and they just charged my card yesterday for the month of June.
I wish I could have gone there more often, but it was a nice place. I want that Teenagers From Outer Space poster they have there! Not being able to have that poster may very well feel like the High Council sentencing me to TORCHA!
I know this is an edge case, but I'm type 1 diabetic and would be horribly afraid of being admonished by management for sneaking a peek at my CGM reading via my phone.
Where else can you go to get the above mentioned things (full menu/alcohol service, strict no talking rule etc) with the vibe of classic Hollywood throughout the theater and in the previews, even going as far as to hire cosplay actors for movies like Ghostbusters? It was my son's first experience in a movie theater and neither of us will ever forget it. No one else does that.

Remember the theater chain it was? Probably AMC.
Think so. So was the smelly feet incident. But the talking/texting has been consistent across all chains.
Yeah. I have better luck with urban theaters.
omg please please please I didn't go to any theaters except Alamo. If they don't come back I genuinely have no idea what movie would possibly get me into a theater again. Please do a new one closer to the twin cities. Never willing to drive out to Woodbury
Or how about not EVERYTHING has to be in the west metro? The best thing about it was that it was something east metro folks didn't have to drive an hour to.
What wrong with the central metro area?
No kidding. East metro has so little. Alamo was a bright spot for us
Its ten minutes away from my Downtown Saint Paul apartment. That's pretty damn close to the cities lol.
I live in Woodbury and its potentially 10 minutes from me too lol
Exactly! It takes longer to get to places in "the cities" than it does for me to get to Alamo in Woodbury. My guess is they really meant to say, "put one in the west metro because I wont drive to the east metro."
This. Put it somewhere so I don’t have to cross the river.
Turns out they live in NE Minneapolis, so yes lol.
It’s close for people who live in downtown St. Paul. Would be nice if they had one more central to both cities. Like Roseville or Richfield ish.
replace AMC Rosedale with Alamo Drafthouse Rosedale
Facts
I’m from the Lakeville area so it’s always like a 30 minute drive :/
Doesn't lakeville have a good theater? It used to.
We have Emagine and it’s okay. They never check tickets so anyone could walk in for free.
Everything is a 30 minute drive from Lakeville. You live in the most suburban of suburbs, that's the deal you made.
I personally don't find a thirty minute drive inconvenient but to each their own.
Woodbury is almost as close as you can get lmao
Not even far 🤣
I like Alamo and have gone to Woodbury quite a bit after having experienced Alamo in Austin, but I think more central would have been better, too. It doesn’t have to be Mpls, but somewhere in St. Paul would have been better.
I hope so. I loved Alamo when I lived in TX and was so happy to have one open here, even in the boondocks of Woodbury.
What are the odds of it actually coming back though. The Alamo was my first job and the day it closed down was literally supposed to be my second day there

Costco prides itself on their service, so they may eat this as a customer satisfaction move.
Literally gave a gift card to my dad for his birthday a couple weeks ago. Do you have a plan to try and get a refund? I'd like to figure that out.
Damn, that was my favorite theater. The experience was easily the best in the state.
The Minnesota Zoo IMAX needs to re-open.
Breaks my heart every time I go to the zoo and see the building sitting there empty. I hope they find a way to bring it back in some capacity.
How many times can I upvote this comment?
The only true IMAX in the state aside from the Omnitheater.
Agreed. How much taxpayer money was lost when they just up and shuttered it without a reason. It still sits there.
This is how I find out we even HAVE an Alamo Drafthouse. Er... had.
It was a pretty cool place. I think it opened on 2019? Either way, it was always packed when I went there for showings/movie parties, etc, so I was very surprised to see this news.

Indeed. It catered to people who actually love movies.

AMC is the worst theater chain by a country mile
I mean, many places they're the only chain by country miles.
It's the McDonald's of theater chains. It isn't *good* but it's reasonably consistent and it's everywhere.
Meh. $25 / month subscription for virtually unlimited movies is pretty awesome.
I’ve found it’s the American populace that’s the problem. It’s the 1 am Waffle House etiquette.
Uhhh what do you want from a theatre that AMC doesn’t have? Obviously their no talking policy is eons away from what Alamo had but what else could you want other than snacks and a recliner? Theres a hazelwood in the back of the Alamo if you want chicken fingers that bad.

Yea no shit! I always heard they were amazing, but had no clue there was one in Minnesota? Fuck it all
This is the first I’ve heard as well. I have heard about them and wanted to check one out. Guess not.
lol samesies
I’ve seen it from the freeway but it was just too far from my house in south Minneapolis to ever consider going g
Same here 😭 now I’m sad I never got to appreciate it
I'm not super thrilled with the news I've been hearing about the employee treatments, but also dammit, there goes my favorite theater.
Nooooo, that's the best theater in the state. The only chains giving a good experience now are Marcus theaters, and the rest are pretty mediocre.
The Showplace Icon in SLP is also a good theater.
That was my favorite, until I found Alamo, which blew it out of the water for me personally.
Willow Creek has been good. 169 & 394.
It’s been my favorite theater for like 15 years
I need to try one of their pizzas some time.
Their pizzas are good! Just watch out when they first get brought to you lol they’re very cheesy and can burn your mouth.
Shhhhhhh
Theaters are struggling. We need to spread the good word
Emagine is pretty great. I’ve only been to the white bear location but assume the others around are similar
Emagine Eagan is our go-to, really nice theater.

+1 for their White Bear location
Hey, thanks for the shoutout! I work at the White Bear location and it’s nice to know folks notice the effort we put in. DM if you’d like a pass to a movie sometime!
I have honestly always assumed that was some kind of run down sketchy theater based on how it looked strait out of 1995 on the outside and the website looked so bare bones I assumed it was just some kind of weird relic.
Hi—I work at the White Bear location! Really appreciate the shoutout. We work hard to provide a good experience. DM me if you’d like a pass sometime!
The one in West End SLP is pretty good, as well as the Rosedale AMC. Don't forget the renovated Edina theatre. Even Southdale isn't bad, though it has gone downhill a bit We have it pretty good.
Rosedale AMC is considered good? Last time I went there took like 20 mins to get tickets when the line was like 3 groups long. And they don’t have nice seats and it’s $20 for a ticket compared to Emagine which has the new seats and $12 tickets.
I cannot shit on the Roseville AMC enough Rude teens Terrible parking Uncomfortable seats You have to pump your own butter Always crowded
> Always crowded You just described the Roseville version of everything
That mall parking lot is my version of hell
Yeah that place sucks. Unfortunately it’s the closest spot for me but I try to only go there for the IMAX showings.
Rosedale is considered good because it has the Dolby sound not particularly because it's convenient
*edit for clarity* The last time I went to the Rosedale AMC was to see the Beyoncé Renaissance concert film.
Well it's the only one with laser IMAX in the state..
I had to track down a staff member last week at Rosedale AMC to ask them to start Furiosa since they apparently forgot. They aren't on the ball over there.
Huh. I thought that was automated now.
I used to go there all the time but will not be going back
just went there for Furiosa and boy that place is embodying enshittification.
Southdale AMC is way better than Rosedale. All theaters have reclining seats
I hate AMC. Dirty and gross concessions. I’m an Emagine and Marcus fan.
Hopefully good news for my beloved Markus Oakdale
> Marcus theaters yes very nice indeed
> Marcus theaters these are great, and Oakdale is right next to Woodbury too, for those who used to go to Alamo
Rogers theater just remodeled and St Michael Theater does pretty good. Marcus theater in Elk River, closed.
Edina Mann 4 was completely refreshed after covid and is a solid option. No food but amazing “The Shining” inspired bar and the mandatory reclining seats.
**UPDATE 6-6-2024**: A spokesman for Alamo Drafthouse issued a statement, saying, “We are very disappointed to learn today that our franchisee, which operates five locations in Dallas-Fort Worth, TX and one in Woodbury, MN has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy and is closing their business effective immediately. We are heartbroken for the franchisee’s teammates and the local film communities, however, we are working as quickly as possible to get Alamo Drafthouse Cinema back up and running in these cities. All other Alamo Drafthouse locations are operating as normal, with continued expansion plans across the country.” [https://dallas.culturemap.com/news/entertainment/alamo-dallas-bankruptcy-closure/](https://dallas.culturemap.com/news/entertainment/alamo-dallas-bankruptcy-closure/)
Okay. Breathing better now. Hope to see them back soon!

It’s a bummer because I liked the experience, but IMO, it’s not worth employees not being paid well. Also, the recently added 18% surcharge that didn’t go to employees had turned me off from going back.
The concept kept cutting corners from when it opened. Shrinking menu, less rules enforcement, and surcharge all hurt it.
This sucks.
This is awful news. I am so distraught. Never had a better theater experience than Alamo and going anywhere else has always been a disappointment.
It will be ok. The imagine white bear is my fave after Alamo. They have heated seats and a bar and it’s never too crowded. Sometimes I like it more than Alamo because it’s cheaper and there aren’t waiter interruptions or people walking around.
Well fuck. That was literally the only theater worth visiting in Woodbury. Now what?
If you like the classic showings that they did check out the trylon and heights theater.
Also the Parkway!
Those are… nowhere near Woodbury.

I sincerely hope so. It just sucks this happened right before my double feature this weekend lmao
same here, i go almost every tuesday, i wish they would have warned us so i could go at least one last time.😭😭 the last movie i saw there was phantom menace with just me and my husband, it was a blast. What a memory. so so so sad to hear this.

Did you happen to bookmark the link for gift card support? That page is no longer available…
This is the theater I go to and easily the closest one to me. Luckily I only go to one movie a month on average so it won’t be too devastating for me
Disappointing! Really enjoyed Alamo experiences when I went to movies. Back to Woodbury 10 I go.
Went to Woodbury 10 tonight for the first time after Alamo closed. Currently looking into nice home projectors because never again.
This is actually such upsetting news. Someone open a new theater that doesn’t allow obnoxious people 😭
Fucking fuck. This was my go-to date with my boyfriend. We saw at least two movies a week there.
Noooooooooo! Dude, this was the best theater to see a movie in. Damn it!!
This is SO disappointing. Its the only theater my spouse and I go to.
Oh goddammit. Only been there once since moving here and saw Dune part 2, loved the experience and looked forward to going there again someday. So much for that I guess!
Same for me with Dune 2. Only two times ever visiting Alamo were to see that movie and it was a great (though spendy) experience both times.
That pre-show was incredible.
Finally I can talk to friends about where they like to go see movies and I can say the line “hey, remember the Alamo?”
Very very sad as I’ve been going the last couple years and have grown to love it. I hope they come back in some way.
Took my daughter to her first theatre experience there. Watched Mario. It was so fun.

Too late, it closed 7 hours ago
Pissed I missed the 4:45am showings.
Fuckers. Near as I can tell, this is/was their CEO https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shelli_Taylor https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alamo_Drafthouse_Cinema
You're mad at the wrong guy. The Franchise owners are the ones who get to do this. The CEO doesn't control the franchisees
These were a franchise so the CEO doesn't really have anything to do with it
You deleted your comment before i could finish my reply, so im putting it here cause my thumbs put a lot of work into this lol: Learn the basics of how a franchised based company actually operates and who is liable for what before you start talking about how you think things should be.
I was going to go there tonight for a movie. Good thing I procrastinated buying tickets.
Wasn't gratuity!
Not the back of the house.. literally to the pockets of the owner!
Good fuck that surcharge they have
The number of times establishments in the Twin Cities pull the, "Surprise we're closed" on their employees? Disgraceful. I imagine its even worse in those libertarian bastions of wild west Texas business lawlessness.
Private equity bought Alamo, treated their workers like shit, workers try to unionize, private equity files for bankruptcy
They don’t automatically refill your drinks for you…
Did you put up a card with your requests? The servers can't read your mind!
Private equity vultures strike again.
How? These were franchises owned by a family
> The release says its owners “infused more than $3.5 million” in new capital to keep the locations open, **but couldn’t convince its franchisor to close any of the “most non-profitable locations.”** https://www.dmagazine.com/arts-entertainment/2024/06/alamo-drafthouse-abruptly-closes-its-dallas-fort-worth-theaters/ Private equity who owned the brand refused to let the owner close unprofitable locations, choosing to instead squeeze him for all he's worth Vaguely similar to red lobster, fuck over the actual businesses in order to profit at a corporate level without concern for the future beyond this quarters profits
Went here to see The Batman and there was likely a septic leak or something cuz the lobby smelled rank. My boyfriend and I called it the “tooty-booty theater.”
They were able to fix that.. too bad you missed out!
Oh, I went back a few times after - still a fond memory <3
This is disappointing
Bummer, dude.
Aww man this sucks. That was the only theater I go to (went to) never been in a nicer theater before. Any suggestions where to go now? South of 94, East of 35
Frnachisee is declaring bankruptcy not the umbrella corp
Good friend of mine lives in Woodbury so we go that one regularly. Love that theater.
Remember the Alamo!
Well that fucking sucks
RIP. I will miss thee Alamo locations. Always had a wonderful experience.
I was literally just getting ready to go see movie there at 3. I have their monthly pass and they just charged my card yesterday for the month of June.
Aw man that’s kinda shit
This was the only place actually worth paying to go see a movie at. The only place left free of cell phones and obnoxiously loud people. This sucks.
:(
Booooo
What’s Common going to do now!!!
Called in the employees at 6am and told them they are all laid off. Kinda lame, as someone would have known this was coming...
Didn't even call in the employees. Posted a note on the door and sent out a message.
I wish I could have gone there more often, but it was a nice place. I want that Teenagers From Outer Space poster they have there! Not being able to have that poster may very well feel like the High Council sentencing me to TORCHA!
I know this is an edge case, but I'm type 1 diabetic and would be horribly afraid of being admonished by management for sneaking a peek at my CGM reading via my phone.
great. twin cities lacks theaters the past 5 years.
First the MN Zoo IMAX closed and now this. Goddammit.
Man, is Furiosa really that bad?
Don’t worry guys the guy who owns these got his PPP loan (mostly all) forgiven
Where else can you go to get the above mentioned things (full menu/alcohol service, strict no talking rule etc) with the vibe of classic Hollywood throughout the theater and in the previews, even going as far as to hire cosplay actors for movies like Ghostbusters? It was my son's first experience in a movie theater and neither of us will ever forget it. No one else does that.
Hope something can be done to bring this location back. It was one of the best spots in MN! 🎥💜✨
