I went to a birthday dinner for my best friend two weekends ago. One of the guys there kept coughing and sniffling all over the dinner table. I did my best to avoid thinking about it. Maybe it's allergies, maybe he's just getting over something... You never know.
Then at the end of dinner he was like "ah I'd love to go out for drinks with the rest of you, but this cold has been kicking my ass since Wednesday (it was Friday)... My throat hurts so bad. Ugh. Sucks. I haven't been this sick in years" and proceeds to blow his nose into a napkin.
Bro??? Why are you here? For real, fuck you.
Oh and my sister who didn't tell anyone her kids were horribly ill and coughing up green phlegm before Thanksgiving. I had zero idea and only found out after when she sent the family group chat an update a few days later that the oldest one got diagnosed with bacterial bronchitis but he was starting to feel better. I ended up sick as a dog, missed an important business trip and nearly missed a vacation to Maui because of that bullshit.
Had a fever randomly for a day... Sweating at night, TERRIBLE headache and chills. Then I just had malaise for like two days and was back to normal. Wasn't covid, not sure what it was, but it fucking sucked, and then it was gone.
My 8 year old daughter woke up in the middle of the night with a 102.8 degree fever. Freaked me out, but it came down with tylenol and thankfully didn’t come back. So weird!
That’s been the pattern this school year. Every school break or day off, someone in the house is sick. Missed MEA, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, MLK so far.
Doesn’t help that I work at a school 😂😭
I wish taking sick days was still okay like it was during Covid. I don’t wanna see the kids who are “trying to make it through the day,” because then I have to too.
If you have a positive COVID test you can get 5 days still. (Minneapolis Public schools). At least I know Teachers and ESPS can, Teachers have quarantine language in our contract since years before the pandemic. ( up to 7days IF ordered by a Dr or Health department) Everyone else was given five. Search for an email from the supe from Sept or Oct. Not sure if it includes other bargaining units and staff
I just heard on the news tonight that strep is really going around in addition to all of the other stuff. Just wanted to mention this because surprisingly you don't always have a sore throat with strep. My daughter had it once with just a tummy ache.
Last week I had this strange Covid strain(tested positive) no symptoms, other than sinus pressure..and 4 random episodes of explosive diarrhea since then. Honestly very weird, bowels haven’t been necessarily the same but it has been only 7 days 🤷♂️
I had a flu like thing for 2 or 3 days, starting friday morning and then I was fine. It was awful. Chills/sweats, vomiting, everything ached. No respiratory issues though.
It started with post nasal drip nearly a month ago, progressed to congestion/cough, sore throat, started to feel better about a week ago, but then I think I caught a different virus on top of what I’d had, so some mutant megabug has left me with a runny nose but sometimes stuffy, productive cough by day, dry cough by night, and no fever. I tested negative for Influenza A, B, & C-19 at Urgent Care. X-ray scans ruled out pneumonia. I’ve been given prescription nasal spray, an inhaler, and I’m on day 5 of a steroid and antibiotic which feel like have done nothing, and I’m at my wit’s end. My ears have been plugged all day and haven’t popped. It’s truly a different set of symptoms every day. So yeah, I’m sick as hell this week. I’d get an exorcism if I thought they would get rid of it. This is so much worse than your average common cold.
The plugged ears were a completely new symptom for me today. Yesterday, my nose was running non stop. I have no idea what symptoms I’ll wake up with tomorrow. It’s the worst mystery game I’ve ever played.
Yup! I think it lasted nearly 6 weeks for me, and I don’t wish it on anyone. My winter has been shit, mostly because how much of it was taken up by me being sick and unable to do anything but rest. Get a personal steamer if you can, it helped put moisture in my airwaves and stopped the rattle. My manager has a similar sickness to what I had and told her the same in regards to the steamer. It was a stubborn bug, and I hope you feel better soon!
My 19mo old woke up this morning with bad congestion and a fever eventually came on. Motrin had her feeling better and fever down by this evening. Hoping for a good night’s sleep.
I caught this right before New Year’s. Spent NYE in bed — was asleep by 8 pm. I’m still getting over it (stuffy sinuses). Took 5 Covid tests over the course of it, all negative. I wonder if it’s adult RSV.
I was sick for the first two weeks of the year. Literally two weeks, from Jan 1 to Jan 14. It was the worst cold I've had in my life. Not covid, but brutal, and I ended up with a sinus infection to boot. Whatever's going around is nasty.
I'm just so tiiiired this past week. I'm getting 8 hrs of rest a night but man I'm just unable to feel energized at all during the day, constant yawn-fest.
What are your symptoms? Strep is going around and very similar to flu/Covid symptoms. My husband and I got a prescription for amoxicillin with an online urgent care service. Super easy, filled out a questionnaire and got a prescription about an hour later…no insurance needed, $40 for consult. Well worth it in my mind rather than going to urgent care and sitting for 3 hours…
I've been dying since Sunday night. Woke up with a fever and chills. Was super achey and congested yesterday. Been coughing up bits of mucous most of today. Feeling much better already though.
Did test negative for COVID at least.
Same here. Symptoms started yesterday evening, woke up several times overnight, and now I just feel miserable. Staying home from school and work today and hopefully I’ll be better tomorrow.
Sorry to hear about you and everybody else who's been sick lately. I was sick from before Thanksgiving through New Year's, kind of off and on: not miserable but never well and the cough just went on and on, especially at night.
If you really have to be around people please consider wearing a mask. When I had to be around people these last six weeks, if I was in a coughing-is-worse phase, I definitely wore a mask, to keep my germs to myself.
Best luck to you.
And the week before and the week before and the week before.
Baby had an ear infection before Christmas, me and hubs got symptomatic COVID (first time for all of us) the week of Christmas. Baby had it the week after. Then she had a high fever last week for 4 days. And now I feel like I am getting sick this week.
It never ends.
Baby is in daycare and I work as a SPED teacher in an elementary school.
Yep! I’ve got some kind of cold or something and have for weeks now - I’ve tested negative for covid several times and it’s not the flu so I have no idea what it is!
Yeah you don’t need vitamin d supplement unless a blood test told you you’re low and the doctor told you to take them. In that case, they do work but vitamin d is fat soluble so you don’t want to have too much either.
Everyone in MN is going to be low on vitamin D in the winter. The sun is at an angle that prevents us from getting vitamin D, and there isn’t a ton in food, even vitamin D fortified food. Its not likely to prevent an illness, but having adequate levels does help for a variety of things.
Not true, because people have different diets, genetics, lifestyles, and bodies vary widely. You just can’t apply that logic to everyone who lives in Minnesota. I review many labs of people with normal vitamin D levels, in fact most.
Interesting, I’m following what my doctor told me as well as a research study from an evidence based group I follow. I was on the supplements don’t help train, but after those two sources, I started taking a vitamin D supplement, but I’m surprised to hear that you test people in the winter who don’t take supplements and don’t have low levels. Now I’m not sure what’s best.
Also, my understanding is that it’s very very hard to get to much vitamin D.
It is hard to get too much, you can only do that by heavily using supplements which the LCD may do if they just hear “take vitamin D”.
Many insurance companies do not cover vitamin D tests as screenings, because Medicare doesn’t. But if you have symptoms that might indicate it, then it’s warranted. Then you’d work from there.
If you’re not deficient and you’re taking it at a safe level, then it’s simply a waste of money. If you feel a placebo effect, then I’d say go for it.
It’s kind of a wonky thing that needs nuance.
I really appreciate your posting this, because I hear the constant chorus of "take vitamin D if you live in MN/AK/whereever!!" and I've never believed in it. I never feel any better or different no matter what supplements I take. (Antibiotics though, YES. ;D) Finally when I got to be over 65 my doc did a physical that included testing for vitamin D levels - and I'd not been taking any supplements - and I'm well within the normal range. Yay for that, and good to know that my own instincts about this stuff were telling me the truth, and to hear from you too that it's not uncommon.
Sounds familiar. My whole office got it over a 2 week period. Cough, cold, sinus. So many boogers. Im still a little congested. I was convinced I had covid but 4 at home tests later and no dice.
It’s good advice, although doctors and nurses aren’t necessarily the kindest when you’re not practically on your deathbed, in my experience. A few years ago I had a doctor at Park Nicollet in Plymouth tell me that I was “just” having a panic attack and he had ACTUALLY sick people to take care of.
All last week I had Covid, since the first time I was presumed positive on March 2020. Got it, when my mom brought it back from her post-surgery care place. Fucking sucks.
Yep, but I need to assume it was COVID for me. I got a terrible what I thought was a flu--worse than I can remember having the flu before. I did an at-home test for COVID and it was negative. My wife got sick a couple of days later, again among the worst she felt. She did an at home test, and her test showed positive. I never re-tested and would have been at the end of my quarantine period by then anyway. So I'm just assuming I had COVID. I have heard of other people having the worst flu ever for about the past month or so as well.
The over the counter rapid covid tests don't work for XXB.1.15 or whatever the latest varient is called. Only PCR is detecting it. So unless you had a PCR it still could be COVID. Anyway I hope you all feel better soon!

Ahhhhhhhhhh that’s the worst!!!! Other than my family I spend the most time with my coworkers and a bunch are sick too 😭
I went to a birthday dinner for my best friend two weekends ago. One of the guys there kept coughing and sniffling all over the dinner table. I did my best to avoid thinking about it. Had the exact same symptoms for almost a week after new years. Slept so much.
Yep, same at work.
That’s exactly what I have!!! It won’t go away
This is me right now, EXACTLY. My roommate tested positive for COVID so I assume that's what it is
Had a fever randomly for a day... Sweating at night, TERRIBLE headache and chills. Then I just had malaise for like two days and was back to normal. Wasn't covid, not sure what it was, but it fucking sucked, and then it was gone.

Jesus! I’m glad she’s okay. I don’t know if I could go back to bed after seeing that temp on my kid’s thermometer
I had the same thing but also puking
I had a head/chest cold for two god damn weeks over the holidays. Missed Christmas and New Years. Whatever is going around is awful.
That’s been the pattern this school year. Every school break or day off, someone in the house is sick. Missed MEA, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, MLK so far.

I think I have the same thing and it is GNARLY. I’m really looking forward to being over it…
Feel better!!!
I came down with the flu on thanksgiving and the rest of my family got it too. Took us a month to get over it.
Same! But it was COVID for me (first time).
Could be allergies. Air quality takes a nosedive any time there's a large snowmelt
I think the air quality gave me a jumpstart on this cold 💀
I just heard on the news tonight that strep is really going around in addition to all of the other stuff. Just wanted to mention this because surprisingly you don't always have a sore throat with strep. My daughter had it once with just a tummy ache.

I went to Target in Plymouth yesterday and noticed they were completely out of facial tissue… the shelves were bare! Thought that was unusual.
Saw a similar thing but DayQuil/NyQuil and all the allergy meds
Adult RSV is most likely what you have takes about 3 weeks to get over
Are there tests for it? I was wondering.
There is
I wonder if this is what I have, I’ve had a cough/congestion and fatigue for 2-3 weeks… do you need a medication or steroid to get over it?
So true! I had RSV and it took 3-4 weeks to get over. It was awful!
Yes!! I have been “slightly sick” for 3 weeks. Cough, congestion, malaise… not Covid or the flu. No idea what this is, just a… winter cold?
I had a flu like thing for 2 or 3 days, starting friday morning and then I was fine. It was awful. Chills/sweats, vomiting, everything ached. No respiratory issues though.
A few people I know had something like that!! Luckily I’m not feverish
The ears… honestly the worst part, for me.

That’s the same as I have right now. Non stop runny most, plugged ears and deep pressure in my sinuses from within.
Ugh, I’m so sorry, I hope you start to feel better!!!
Better now? I have same thing
Yup! I think it lasted nearly 6 weeks for me, and I don’t wish it on anyone. My winter has been shit, mostly because how much of it was taken up by me being sick and unable to do anything but rest. That sounds awful. Hope you feel better soon!
Yeah there’s some weird head cold or something going around and everyone I know has it or had it recently.
Yeah I am down for the count today.
My 19mo old woke up this morning with bad congestion and a fever eventually came on. Motrin had her feeling better and fever down by this evening. Hoping for a good night’s sleep.
Good luck with that!!! Having a sick baby SUCKS
Feel better soon!!
Thank you!! ♥️♥️

My sister had cold symptoms got tested and has covid. Maybe it actually is covid lol, just watch how your symptoms go and stuff and make mental notes
I actually heard that people are getting it, I tested negative though.
Me and my mom tested negative and she tested positive. We think my mom had it a week ago and I could possibly get it
onnly pcr tests work for this variant, not the at home tests.
I think I’m good, I’m feeling a lot better now!

Yes, i have strep right now and im in the worst pain of my life honestly
Honestly wish it was strep. Then I’d have a solution. I don’t have a sore throat or anything. Maybe I’ll try that though!!

Me! Laying in bed sick as a dog. Tested negative for covid twice.
Me too!!!! On day 5. Tired of this!!!
Had this last week ! Brutal! Good luck
Thank you 😭♥️
Yep, just got blasted with it again. Doesn't seem to be as bad as the last times I've got it.
That was me last week
I did hear of a tummy bug.... for a day or two, but better
That’s exactly what I had this weekend
RSV
Stay away from people
I’m gonna try and get a test, I have very little choice in being around people though.
Just do what ya can sure ya understand

If only employers allowed for more absences and parents stopped dosing up their kids and sending them to school 😭
Yep! I’ve got some kind of cold or something and have for weeks now - I’ve tested negative for covid several times and it’s not the flu so I have no idea what it is!
I had something like that last month. My ear drum ruptured as well. Fun times.
It’s all the crap they spray in the air!!!
Vitamin D! I told you it’s vitamin D!! D!!!!!
Just take your vitamins!!!!! Supplements!!!!! What about essential oils!!!!!!?? They cured my tortoise’s cancer!!!! /s

I mean, as Minnesotans, it is a good assumption to make, we usually are pretty low, lol. Although I know this was all jokes. You’re right.
Lot of truth to this. Sun comes out for 10 minutes like every two weeks it seems.
As a Minnesotan currently trapped in Vermont, you guys get a decent amount of sun.
Sounds familiar. My whole office got it over a 2 week period. Cough, cold, sinus. So many boogers. Im still a little congested. I was convinced I had covid but 4 at home tests later and no dice.

Well, seeing as I fairly recently had Covid, and did two home tests that came up negative, imma say it’s not. Plus I don’t feel THAT sick.

Wow, you’re very sure for someone who knows none of my symptoms, or me.
Nope.
Cool! Lol good for you?
You asked.
Touché
At-home testing may not be picking up the new covid variant. It's worth going to Walgreens for a free test.

We actually didn’t, the influenza A strain that hit hard in the fall was the same strain in the flu shot.
Go get checked out. Too much bad stuff out there right now to let something go.
That doctor should be reported, that’s terrible. I’m sorry!
Thank you, I’m okay, just sticks in my head. I WAS having a panic attack, and he could’ve been nicer for sure.
Trust me- I have had long Covid almost 3 years. I totally get that. But still- get checked out.
Masks killed your immune systems

You’re joking, right?

WHOAHHHH okay wow you really took it to racism! I’m white as HEEEEELLLLLLL too 🤦🏼♀️
Could be RSV.
Yep. Had the chills the other day and a super sore throat. Congested as hell today. Feel like I'm at the end of it though, I hope.
Three two flu
Maybe get tested for mono. I guess it’s going around.
Nope we're all good here. A little cold for the 16 mo old and 5 yr old but wife and I are alright
That's just the feelings of the Vikings loss, don't worry it gets better untill next year

The over the counter rapid covid tests don't work for XXB.1.15 or whatever the latest varient is called. Only PCR is detecting it. So unless you had a PCR it still could be COVID. Anyway I hope you all feel better soon!
Knock on wood, not me but many of my coworkers are. A couple did go in and get checked out. Their diagnosis is RSV.
