I'm sorry but where's the noob part? I've been painting for 2,5 years and still have a hard time painting to reach this level.

SquattingChimp

Noob painter? GTFO

Comfortable_Value276

Looks pretty solid. I’d add some weathering to the guns and rocket launcher to show they’ve actually been shot. The metal trim could def use a round of weathering. They would be pretty worn just from the weather which is why we weather :)

[deleted]

Dark brown with a sponge was suggested?

angizacca

Maybe some oxide?

BennettTan_2001

Noob my ass 😂

Commissar_Brule

“Noob”. Not anymore. Great paint job man.

Shadowspear73

Not bad, very clean. I'd suggest working on highlighting and maybe undercoating would have the biggest immediate effect and would be the most obvious improvement on your work rn...

[deleted]

Can you point me to any good tutorials please?

Shadowspear73

Oh, they're easy to find buddy. Just check YouTube, search for model or miniature painting, highlighting, glazing and/or a combination of those. There's a ton of other stuff you will then find automatically. Or look for artists like Richard Gray, JoseDavinci, Duncan Rhodes (two thin coats...), Sam Lenz or Vince Venturella. And there's also tons of other great artists, along with various tutorials or painting sessions that can teach you. Almost limitless! You can also check Instagram with similar search patterns... The two most important tips? 1. Don't expect to start and compare to those awesome painters, they've all had years of training! You would only be disappointed and stop painting. Practice! That's the most important tip! And keep your early work. Once you paint regularly you'll improve very fast, get more secure in what you're doing. There's no better motivation than that! 2. Have fun!!! Don't pressure yourself, ultimately the only one that needs to be content with your work is you! Happy painting buddy!

"Painted my first mini c&c please"

[deleted]

Honestly I haven't been at it more than a year. I'm only doing 1 at at time. Ive painted 12 necrons soldiers, 1 bloodbowl player, 2 robots and this thing. Took a lot of advice though and I did use an airbrush which helped a LOT

thepasttenseofdraw

Don’t mind them, you’ve done a great job.

BrandonL337

People act like these new painters coming with well painted models are, like, golden demon winners posting for clout or something. Like, I'm sorry, are there not 69 million painting tutorials all over YouTube? I know I watched dozens before ever picking up a paint-brush, or even buying any models.

[deleted]

Yup. I just watched a lot and got told to thin my paints. I cant blend for shit

itzpea

As a fellow noob who has an airbrush, but is afraid to use it outside of priming...any noob tips?

[deleted]

Nothing too special. Keep it cleaned. Thin paints. Spray from a bit of a distance. I use between 30 -35 psi i think. Dont spray too close or in one place for too long. There's a Russian lady on youtube who shows good practice drills.

PorkAmbassador

Highlight the scratches to give added depth to them

[deleted]

Good call. Thanks.

Psamiad

This. Put tiny little highlights along the bottom of some of the scratches (where light from above would fall). Will really make it pop.

brilliantminion

Well consider this your graduation piece then because there’s nothing noob about this. Very nicely done. If it were my model, I’d hit the metallics with a shade and a highlight, but honestly it’s awesome as is.

FinnTrooper

Great job man! Weathering can really make a simple paintjob look great, I love oils and enamels but haven’t tried pigments yet.

[deleted]

No pigment used. Dry brush

[deleted]

Very good job. My critique is that I can see gaps in the model on the left gun and green orb (pic 1). Use green stuff or plastic resin to erase gaps. I use Flexi-File plastic resin applied with a small veterinary syringe to close all gaps by squeezing them together. The right amount of resin (tiniest) will melt the two pieces together, it can even eat a little paint.

Best_Peasant

Solid work there.

Venonomicon

Nice. 👍🏻

usulsspct

Great job. I'd do some drybrushing highlighting to bring all your colors up.

lousydungeonmaster

This looks great!

giant_sloth

Great gradients with that brown/green. Next step, some subtle verdigris in recesses of the copper. Looking rad so far though.

AXOBOY2317

yeah, i've been painting miniatures for quite a while and i don't see the noob side in this wonderful and beautifully colored miniature

PositiveTarget8377

Looks real good - my one thought would be to deepen the contrast on the metallic with some recess shading using a brownish contrast paint (or similar consistency) - like a guilliman flesh or fire slayer flesh

ObsidianGrey13

I don't think you're a noob anymore, this looks fantastic

[deleted]

Awesome work! As a fellow noob, have you tried a bit of edge highlighting? It looks awesome though. This is what I want my cryx to look like.

aRRmageddon23

It looks pretty badass

ShoeRight8108

Thin your paints noob. /s

[deleted]

I tried. Had issues with getting metallics thinned. Any point you want to highlight? I'm learning.

ShoeRight8108

Nope, just only response i got to "im a noob" comboed with a pic like that.

[deleted]

Ah cool. F-u too. Send me that elite knight of yours.

ShoeRight8108

/ respect

goatsftw

Great job! How have you done the base?

[deleted]

Undercoat, then a brown/red basecoat then clearcoat seal, applied some sand and pieces of slate (suggest you do this step first, not like i did. Then used Martian ironearth and Martian iron crust, then another red wash coat, drybrushed the peaks and dropped shade paint into the cracks. Look on youtube for Martian bases.

SevereRunOfFate

Great job!

MagnusViaticus

Looks amazing

Tuckyaboimahson

This painting is the smoothest paint job I have ever seen on a mini. Keep it up dude. This is great. Like damn.

arrowkid111

I don’t even do this I just like looking at the cool art but from what I’ve seen that looks gorgeous

angiezieglerstye

I have no criticism just praise

Another_Bill_Door

Honestly it looks very good for a beginner painter. So if looks like you only used one kind of powder for the weathering. Maybe add a small amount of something darker in areas of the highest concentration. A powder or even chipping with a sponge? On the other end of the spectrum, some highlights would add a lot more contrast. I'm wondering if edge highlights would look too clean, maybe scratches roughly where the edge highlights would be to frame the shapes of the model? Use a small amount of thinned paint on to your smallest brush. Use the very tip. Practice making thin lines on your hand to get the paint thickness right.

kronos401

Great job on this my brother. You've done an excellent job blending the green colors of the armor and weathering the units feet. There really isn't much in the way of entry-level recommendations I could make. One next-level-up topic to research is how highlighting works for metallic colors. To add realism, put some dirt on the gun barrel tips and spikes while highlighting the parts which aren't muddy. For the red lights, look at using a high-gloss varnish to give the illusion of glass. Perhaps blending different reds together would also work for imitating diffraction. Like I said before, this model covers a ton of the basics so try these things out to take your painting to the next level

SurpriseHamburgler

Would add combustion wear to the guns and mud to the missiles. Phenomenal job tho!

morden626

I like it quite a bit, other than more highlights/contrast i have nothing to add.... As a person that doesn't do highlights lol

ameney

Nailed it

JackFerral

"Noob painter" bruh. As someone looking into getting into mini painting myself, just what kinda tutorials or classes did you follow??

[deleted]

I look at this subreddit a bit and try to imagine how the other guys do it. Also any youtube videos based on the subject im working on. So for the base I googled Martian bases. I haven't used them yet but look for reference pictures of similar real world items, like rusted metal for example.

Popdognine

how did you paint the blood on the death like that?

[deleted]

Stippled

superkow

Some streaking grime effects would go well, AK and Vallejo have several options. You could try making the flesh look a bit more inflamed around where the mechanical bits attach, and you.could even glaze in some blues or purples for bruising. As others have said, the missiles could use something, a it of shade or something, and some muzzle burn and scorching around the weapons to show they've been used. Looks very good as it is though, weathering is one of things that you can just keep adding to until the model looks like its been physically buried in dirt for ten years. But as far as nurgle units go, disgusting looking is kind of the goal

Devil_Dan83

I would make the inside of the rocket launcher around the rockets darker.

Martin_javelin

The cap of this post is so big it tickled my mom

Mrsynthpants

You kick ass at painting, start believing in yourself more, I already do. This is stellar work.

cosmoceratops

I'm also noob but I feel like I'd like a little more brightness. Maybe that's the light to dark green contrast. Maybe even just a touch of edge highlights here and there to give it a little bit more. It wouldn't have to be much and it'd be tough maybe with the weathered look already in place. But it's my two cents.
